Why don't these schools put poison pills in their contracts? Like "If you leave early to go to the NFL you or your new employer pays us X."
Is that not legal? I know they do it in NFL player offer sheets.
Wasn't the word that Bill O'Brien had a 9m buyout to leave Penn State?
I seem to remember the rumor being that O' Brien pumped up the Penn St pride angle in him staying, but the reality was that his buyout was ginormous and nobody wanted to pay it.

He was definitely listening to opportunities, but he wasn't aggressively pursing any. He feels a responsibility to the kids that stuck it out. The rumored buyout didn't help his cause.

He's an NFL guy, so I don't know why anyone should be surprised that he would listen to NFL offers. He'll probably return to the NFL when the right head coaching job opens up if he is successful at Penn St, but he's not going after one year and zero championships.
Adam Schefter @adamschefter Browns hired Michael Lombardi as GM.
Season tickets are sold.... I'm done. LOMBARDI??? He's not even the best evaluator on HIS TV NETWORK.... 5 years out of the league, has NEVER been rehired in a league that's BASED upon relationships. What a joke. What do you expect when you have a CPA running the team for the Lot Lizzard Pimp owner

Flanz, how much do you think Keller will fetch on the open market? Giants could use a guy like him.
It depends. He's probably going to look for a deal similar to what Zach Miller got from Seattle in 2011 (5 years/$34 mil, $17 mil guaranteed. Oddly enough, the Jets just hired the guy who approved that contract, so if he thinks the deal was worth it, he may give Keller that sort of contract, but I hope not.
I wouldn't trust a Haslam. To run a football team, much less a state government.
Sorry to all my Browns fan friends out there.
I don't know a thing about his brother, but clearly running a truck stop isn't rocket science, because I haven't heard this guy say an intelligent thing yet. The sad part? We're quietly building a nice coaching staff. Not positive that Horton is the stud they are making him out to be, and we definitely don't have the personnel to run a 3-4.

I don't get this at all. Bennett is younger, bigger and has a year with Eli under his belt. Are you saying you would rather have Keller than Bennett?
Bennett is also a free agent, and I have a feeling he's not going to come cheap this time around. I also think Keller fits as a better piece to the puzzle. The last time Eli had a true receiving TE, Eli sent him to the pro bowl (Shockey). We already have Bear Pascoe as a blocking TE, and I kinda like the idea of Pascoe and Keller in 2 TE sets.
Part of me doesn't believe we're going to retain both Nicks and Cruz with our cap situation, so I think picking up a guy like Keller from an off year (who wouldn't have an off year with Sanchez throwing to you) could be a shrewd move. If Keller is ever going to reach his potential, which I believe to be something like 75/1,000/7, Eli is the QB that can get him there.
EDIT: and before anyone loses their shiz for such a lofty expectation, Keller had 65/815/5 with Sanchez in his last full season. But I agree, that Zach Miller contract is ABSURD.
It's also a very real possibility that the Giants let Bennett walk and just move forward with Bear Pascoe and Adrien Robinson (whom Jerry Reese referred to as last years draft's Jason Pierre Paul, whatever that means).

Lord knows the Giants know how to coach up a TE.
I see your point but I don't think there is going to be a big price difference between Keller and Bennett. And I really like that Bennett developed a chemistry with Eli and his blocking was not detrimental at all. I think the more likely scenario is what you say here. They keep Pascoe because he's cheap and a devastating blocker and hope Robinson develops as expected.
