I was wondering what everyone's favorite late night acts were, and i can definitely say the sets i saw were all really solid.
my personal favorite? besides my morning jacket, who i pretty much knew would me amazing, was the band balkan beat box. they put on one of the most lively sets of the entire festival! would have loved to see them have an entire set to themselves, but the dresden dolls were a good match. did anyone else see them on saturday night?
I didn't make the late night circuit as much as I wanted to, but Dr. John was real cool and mellow, nice for unwinding after the killer Radiohead set. Also, it wasn't crowded at all; everyone was at SuperJam.

I think maybe the Umph. I've seen Umphrey's a bunch of times, they always put on a great show, but this one was absolutely incredible. Maybe it was that i was three rows from the stage, and maybe it was that I could barely see straight, but I thought this show was the best there

I passed out for this, but my brother & friends were going nuts about how awesome it was
that umph bisco show rearranged my universe. that was the greatest show i think i will ever see. i cant imagine anything being better. great people great drugs great lights great music. it was.... uhh... great!!!!!
ivan nevlilles dumpstaphunk was awesome too. as was superjam. i enjoyed every latenight i saw. we even had the energy to rcok sasha after dumpstaphunk until the sun came up

So what ended up happening with the Umph/Bisco handoff/combo/Brain Damaged Eggmen situation? Was there some kind of handoff or combined band? Was it one continuous show?
Although I really wanted to make it over there, I couldn't tear myself away from the other two tents. I feel like this is one late night where noone who was there regrets seeing what they saw, even if they wish they could have seen other things too.
Best late night set for me would have to be MMJ I guess, but Lyrics Born and GRAB were among the best things I saw all weekend too. Balkan Beat Box was a blast as well.
The '02 late nights were probably the main thing that made me fall in love with Bonnaroo, and for me, this was the first year that really compared (referring here to my subjective experiences, not the lineup/performances each year).
definitely the superjam, followed by MMJ and Disco Biscuits. Umph (what I saw) was weak. Lyrics Born and Common were good. only caught the very end of Blackalicious which was dope. But the superjam was such a nice surprise treat after that RAdiohead show. It can't be beat.

I REALLY loved everything I saw on the Friday night late night. I mean, are you kidding? I watched Umphrey's McGee tear it up for 2 hours, then watched the last hour of My Morning Jacket's ridiculous set, where they were just loud, going berserk and killing it, then relaxed on the grass and tripped out to the sounds of Disco Biscuits for an hour. Great stuff. Saturday didn't compare for me. I saw Superjam, and it was solid, but nothing compared to any of the Friday sets IMO. I wish I had stayed for the Masquerade Ball as that sounded pretty rocking, but I was honkey donkey dead.
I loved the late night hip-hop, but Mos Def didn't make an appearance. Common had his cell phone ringing then said it was Mos Def and Talib Kweli calling him on a 3-way, then just asked the crowd if they'd heard of each. I was really hoping it would go somewhere, like he would cover one of their songs or even more awesome, they would make an appearance. Instead he just put his cell phone back in his pocket and started into his song. Common was absolutely awesome anyway.

SUPERJAM!
Yeah it was JUST the first ever G.R.A.B. appearance, with Phil F'ING Lesh coming out for a few tunes... At several points during the jams, I had to remind myself that this was not Phish, which is the best compliment I know for any band. I am now this close to quitting my summer job and hitting the road for the month of July, pending some developments on the income front.
Between Radiohead (which I was not really stoked for and thought was a piss-poor choice for headliner - boy was I wrong) and the Superjam, I got all $200+ of value for my entrance fee and then some.
i was just floored by My Morning Jacket. I had seen them play a live set on Austin City Limits on TV, and geez do they bring everything and a roasted turkey. They're show was light years beyond incredible -- them and Radiohead topped off my unbelievable first 'roo (but not my last).
I got dead dog sick on Thursday night which led to me calling it early on Friday night to make sure I didn't screw up my Saturday (which was as amazing a day of music as I can remember), so my late night was limited to tripping out to Dr. John. The vibes over on the other end of Centeroo with the dust and the circus and the multitude of people drunk off their ass were a little harsh. I heard a lot about the Superjam though. How were the Dresden Dolls?

Man that Superjam was nuts especially when phil came out that place just exploded I can still remember dancing around singing casey jones without a care in the world but that Dumstaphunk show was funnnnnnkkkkyyyyyy and there were dudes in there with masks on coming up to me freaking me out-----crazy crazy night...................
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
The SuperJam. I was at the front for like the first hour, and then as I went to the back to chill, I saw these people just coming in, and they asked someone "Who is it?" and the guy replied "I can't see, but I think it's Phish."
ya it took forever for me to find out if they were palying with the duo. everyone was like "who???" i couldnt believe noone knew who they were. i must have asked 10 people before i found someone who knew their shit. it was impossible to get up front when i got there. but thats fine. i was a dancing fool. if you were near the back you probably saw me. i made quite a spectacle of my self. people were offering me their shoes because they thought i was abusing my feet too much dancing around. of course i made a spectacle of my self at every night time show dancing around like a total freek. i had so much fun. i am so sad its over

Hmmm, we may have seen you. I'd have to see a picture of you to make sure, but the guy I saw dancing that night was unforgetable.
you cant tell but also my left foot was all duct taped cause i messed it up earlier. man did i have fun! this weekend was by far and away the most fun i have ever had. i cant wait to do it again next year.

Nobody's givin it up for Dr. John. His set was dope and it wasn't crowded at all--everyone was packin it in at SuperJam. If bonnaroo sells the shows that's the first one I'd buy.
