Imo, Saul Williams was the best show of last year...so round 6, whenever it comes, has alot to live up to.
I sat through Saul Williams waiting for Mars Volta and can't believe anyone would rate his show as anything above mediocre. What was that song about him f*cking his pillow???
As far as next round goes, give me some SCI, Galactic, John Butler, Xavier Rudd. And where's Warren Haynes? I know they're trying to break the mold, but will it be bonnaroo without him?

Saul Williams is something unique in todays music. He is a poet. The music, the jams, the beats, the radio, the pop sensibilities, etc are all second to the power & feeling of his words. You, not being aware of this, and eagerly awaiting the 'next big thing' in rock music, obviously wouldnt enjoy an hour of Saul Williams.

The song you're referring to is called Black Stacey. It is, perhaps, one of the best rap songs I have ever heard. The lyrics that you're referring to go like this:
I used to hump my pillow at night. The type of silent prayer to help myself prepare for the light. Me and my cousin Duce would rank the girls between one and ten and the highest number got to be my pillows pretend. Now I apologize to every high ranker. But you taught me how to dream and so I also thank you. I never had the courage to approach you at school. We joked around a lot and I know you thought I dressed cool. But I was just covering up all the insecurities that came bubbling up. My complexion had me stuck in an emotional rut, 'like the time you Flavor Flaved me and you called me "Yo Chuck, they say you're too black, man". I think I'm too black. Mom, do you think I'm too black? I think I'm too black.
The song is about the insecurities that Saul had while growing up as the black boy in a white school/town/society. It's not about fucking a pillow. You were close. Nice try.
i have a feeling j5 will be announced. they just announced their tour dates and it stops at the end of may. they also announced their album would be out june 27.

Im predicting the following:
The Shins North Mississippi All Stars Pearl Jam Arcade Fire Flaming Lips Wilco
The Pearl Jam addition is almost certain too me. All signs point to yes on this one. The Petty co-bills, the re-emergence of festival performances, the huge gap in the Leg II tour schedule, the known courting of PJ by superfly, the other big acts like Radiohead and Beck... Its looking pretty promising. I wont be let down if it doesnt happen though, b/c many times have things look just as promising at Bonnaroo, and then NEVER happened!
On Wikipedia they had a section saying something like "Bonnaroo has said its in talks to add 16 more bands to the lineup" and then listed bands like SCI, Nmissallstars, and Flaming Lips. It was mysteriously pulled the other day, while other rumor sites still have their rumors flying high. If the Wikipedia rumors were inaccurate, im thinking the bands list would still be posted....
There is some site that says Queens of the stone age, the Dead, and Dinasaur Jr. are rumored to be added, and those were not mysteriously pulled... know why? Cause none of those bands are going to be added...
since the Wiki pedia list was probably pretty accurate, and as such, was ruining the surprize that superfly counts on to sell tix when said bands are announced, they prob pulled it as soon as they found out.
Of course, Wikipedia keeps a history, so you can still see the list of possible adds at: en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bonnaroo_Music_Festival&oldid=47472917 You can also see that whoever edited away the list was connected using Optimum Online, which I believe is an ISP in the New York area.

nice work kiwini!
Now why would this website mysteriously remove this info, but other rumor sites still have rumored artist addition lists posted?
"Bonnaroo has said it is in negotiations to add an additional 16 artists to this years lineup. Rumoured artists to be added include: String Cheese Incident, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, The Allman Brothers, The Arcade Fire, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, North Mississippi All-Stars, Pearl Jam, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, Fiona Apple, John Mayer Trio, Thievery Corporation, Brothers Past ,Queens of the Stone Age, Ben Harper, Danger Doom, The Roots, and Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins."
per wikipedia...
Also RE: pearl jam doesnt seem to have a timeslot...
I think if you cut the headliner slot in half, that is 90 mins. I think Bonnaroo might try to maximise the headliner slots by doubling up artists...
For example: FRI could easily facilitate 90 min of Pearl Jam and 90 mins of Tom Petty. Also, SAT could do 90 min of Beck 90 mins of Radiohead....

just my opinions...
Why cut the headliners time in half when you could just put Pearl Jam/Beck in the 2 hour slot before the headliner, thus giving the headliner a full set. Or you could easily push the headliner back 30 min.-1 hour and give them a 2 1/2 to 3 hour slot.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

well can tom Petty play three hours? I agree foudray, I guess they can just put one band in an opening slot on the main stage; one act before the headliners. . .
only reason I said the split idea is b/c I dont know if Radiohead and Tom Petty can play three plus hour shows like WSP or the Dead.....
at any rate, I cant wait to see how they set this year up.
The thing about Wikipedia is that anybody can edit it. So it isn't that the website mysteriously removed the info, someone else did. Feel free to edit the Bonnaroo page on Wikipedia yourself! It might not stick (someone may edit your edit), but that's how Wikipedia works.

deff removes a bit of credibility from Wikipedia and this particular rumor... Why would an avarage joe remove that info tho? Unless some regular person was offended by that section, It HAD to be a superfly employee protecting some ticket selling surprizes...

anyone else with ideas for discussion?!
They both could play 3+ hour shows if they wanted too, but I'm thinking that they are both going to get a 3 hour timeslot, 3 and a half at the most. That way they could play from 9 to 12 or 9:30 to 12:30, and the big act before them could play from 5:30 to 8 or 5:30 to 8:30.

I think they may be waiting for things like presales for recently announced tours and such to end. That would be smart of the bands to do, so they can still sell their tickets and then announce. Pearl Jam's presales for fanclub members end tomorrow. Maybe a weekend or Monday announcement? If not, I think next Thursday/Friday.
My God... after hearing Pearl Jam play "Severed Hand" on SNL mere minutes ago... I hope they add more than ever. For everyone else's sake (I'll see them twice in Chicago).
Pearl Jam was there yesterday? I was wondering, because we usually get the live thing, but last night we got a show from when Hurricane Wilma was happening and Franz Ferdinand were there... It was strange.

I doubt a band playing at Bonnaroo would really take that much away from a ticket sales on their tour, especially a band like Pearl Jam... Doesnt it seem like they'd be a headliner if they were to play at all??
Speaking as a marketer, if I was representing Pearl Jam I would ask for that stipulation. Everyone seems to forget that just because we are set to go to Bonnaroo ourselves that the concert industry is aflame with ticket sales. That's not the case at all. And Pearl Jam fans certainly cover a demographic (i.e. not just under 18) that would find the disposable income to go. And many fans might only go to one show this year-- so if they played Roo that would be the no-brainer show for me to go to.
Anyway... As for the headliner idea-- yes and no. I think they would want to be a daytime headliner. Daytime because this would be, if they come on board, the absolute first festival since Rockslide and they wouldn't want to have any variable in question in terms of security, including darkness. I think they would be perfectly happy in the slot Jack Johnson, Modest Mouse or Herbie had last year. I think we as Roo'ers get hung up on the "headliner" tag-- depending on who you ask, people could argue that Bonnie Raitt is of headliner status, or at least deserving.

It would be awesome if any of these were added: The Mars Volta Explosions In the Sky The Flaming Lips Pearl Jam ...And You'll Know Us By The Trail Of Dead The Arcade Fire Dredg Interpol Mogwai The Postal Service
Also, I hope the next artist additions don't push ticket sales over the edge. I'm almost there in funding, but not quite yet.

We have a dredg fan in the house! So good to see you.
I've seen them 4 or 5 times and they've been getting better each time. I think they'd do great with a good 90 minute set and they'd fit in well at bonnaroo - just the kind of fans they need to reach out to. That being said, I still find it unlikely.... so sad...
