The first show back is going to have more of a demand then the Coachella gig. Maybe I’m underestimating the population of LA though. Then the question comes to mind, how many will just catch them casually because they were going to the festival anyways? Perhaps that’s just an unfair question. They are definitely a solid sub and super-strong third, but it just feels like festival forums have overhyped them a bit. I think it’s a cool booking in any case. If they are on Sunday (which is traditionally lite) then I could see them drawing very well. I am one of those casual fans who would show up to an early evening set.
If anything, the fact we’re talking about My Chemical Romance being billed 3rd for one of their first shows back make me think this festival forum is under-hyping them.
A small minority seems to be putting them third in here. Most have had them headlining or sub - whole point being having them at #3 on their day isn’t so crazy either. I don’t see them any lower than that though.
they will have a top 5 biggest crowd of the weekend. a SIGNIFICANT amount of the kids who were emo and going to Warped Tour in HS ended up becoming ravers and part of the EDM scene, which helped it explode to the level it did. Those kids have been going to Coachella for years, and MCR playing will be an absolutely MASSIVE crowd.
Panic & FOB are huge right now, arena acts, headline festivals, albeit for a much younger crowd. MCR has the benefit of A. a massive reunion & the hype that comes with it B. not putting out shitty music for the last 8 years, which Panic & FOB have done.

Another point I was trying to make earlier. Like you just pointed out, this transition has already taken place. Just feels like fans of theirs who are into festivals will see them at festivals and the majority will shoot for stand alone shows. I don’t think we will see THAT much crossover as implied in this thread.
I can confirm Drake is the secret headliner but Sade has a mini set during his set as a preview for Coachella
Everybody in here debating MCR's billing while I'm focused on the fact that we found our final headliner. Too bad the dumb CFG crowd boo'ed Drake off the stage before the sultry Sade finale
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
Mcr billed ahead of Sade will be the crime a new decade if it actually came to that.
Also, whats really ridiculous thinking is what Primavera might do with these guys. Other than the festival circuit, the rumor us they have a tour starting in september of next year. Its already been stated that Lolla has them so Riot Fest wont get them, so Prima LA makes them this thing next to Kate Bush? Whoever bought presale would be pissed af with that, right? I mean does it look weak if its mcr and travis scott in sept, and they both play coachella? Does that show that primavera doesnt have the cache here compared to europe with getting talent?

If Kate Bush were actually booked for a U.S. fest, you could be the second headliner and nobody will be "pissed af."
So MCR is considered a headliner? Have they headlined anything noteworthy, ever?
FWIW, MCR headlined Bamboozled, Virgin Festival Canada and Reading-Leeds.
If they aren't top 3 on the entire lineup, will their fans be happy with "only" and 50-60 min sub set? They might out draw some of the top 3 headliners who's names are kicking about(Lana/Frank/Rage).
I also don't think they will play the same day as RATM. Just to balance out the "rock reunion" media coverage.

I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if we spent all this time trying to figure out who the 4th headliner is and come January it ends up being My Chemical Romance, the answer already in our laps. They’d probably be a bigger draw than LCD Soundsystem was.

There is no denying that they are bigger than LCD, Phoenix, and Gorillaz when they headlined. GV is really in a position to put them 1-3 on their day as long as MCR is on board. I suppose with all of the shuffling around I could see them coheadlining with Frank or something. If we don’t have four headliners though, we’d still have to account for potential subs like Halsey. My thought is they might demote a male led act just to have some diversity in the top six names. The rumored top six has been so male dominated and I would like to think they are too conscientious by now to let that happen.

Not that anyone is surprised but Hall & Oats are out with an Indio date on 3/21. So if you thought you'd get to sing along this year to "Bulls on Parade" AND "Private Eyes" then you can just FORGET IT

I saw that the other day. Darryl Hall sounds shittier every time I see them so I think(&hope) that ship has sailed, if they were even ever interested in booking them.
SZA back in 2018 was quite a ridiculous overbill in my book, even though i like her.
SZA and HAIM as subs was so weird. And I love SZA and like HAIM.
SZA, HAIM, and Janelle as subs are why I think there's a chance FKA Twigs subs. She's playing similar or bigger venues in CA this fall to where those three played before subbing, and comes with an even stronger critics bump than they had; Magdalene is going to be all over top-10 lists.
I heard that JT is in the works for a festival in Europe but that they have to wait to announce him..
doesn't the "wait to announce" rule only apply to other NA fests?
Could be that he announces everything all at once or that Coachella has claimed exclusivity on the announement and that the rest follows right after. Arctic Monkeys happend in a similar way when they announced their festival tour in 2018 through Europe (Firefly, I think announced them first I remember?)

Do the new Tool dates in San Diego at the beginning of January count them out? The radius clause always seems to be a suggestion rather than a rule to me.
Interesting. Supposedly Omar Apollo self-confirmed he's playing Coachella on Zane Lowe's show, but he's on this lineup?
I was really hoping for Chromatics at Coachella; I had Mikal Cronin on my mock too.
There have already been a couple artists that have “violated” the radius clause but still seem like locks. Looks like there could be a few more from this fest. Given the Chromatics sporadic touring history, I don’t think it’s a coincidence they’re popping up at a random festival out west a few weeks before Coachella.
