First quarter is in the books. Time to start making lists. What you got?
1. Sun Kil Moon - Benji 2. Future Islands - Singles 3. Wild Beasts - Present Tense 4. MO - No Mythologies to Follow 5. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Pinata 6. War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream 7. Posse - Soft Opening 8. James Vincent McMorrow - Post Tropical 9. Pontiak - Innocence 10. Broken Bells - After the Disco 11. Pharrell - GIRL 12. John Butler Trio - Flesh and Blood 13. St. Vincent - St. Vincent 14. Schoolboy Q - Oxymoron 15. Liars - Mess 16. Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow 17. Real Estate - Atlas 18. Angel Olsen - Burn Your Fire For No Witness 19. Dum Dum Girls - Too True 20. YG - My Krazy Life 21. Young the Giant - Mind Over Matter 22. Neneh Cherry - Blank Project 23. Phantogram - Voices 24. Against Me - Transgender Dysphoria Blues 25. Woods of Desolation - As The Stars 26. Eagulls - Eagulls 27. The Men - Tomorrow's Hits 28. Indian - From All Purity 29. Mogwai - Rave Tapes 30. Beck - Morning Phase
I can't rank them right now. I would add these to your list. Warpaint, Damien Jurado, Temples and Perfect Pussy.
My favorites so far this year in no order Warpaint Damien Jurado James Vincent McMorrow Mogwai Alcest Indian Beck Broken Bells Phantogram Temples St. Vincent Angel Olsen Pharrell Eagulls The Men Real Estate Black Lips The War On Drugs Animals As Leaders Perfect Pussy Cloud Nothings Nickel Creek
So far for me it's been Temples, SOHN, TRUST, Liars, Wild Beasts, Schoolboy Q, Metronomy, The Notwist, Beck, Bombay Bicycle Club, Chain Gang of 1974, The Horrors, Band of Skulls, Wolfmother, Teebs, Dan Croll, Tycho, Future Islands, Cloud Nothings
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
James Vincent McMorrow - Post Tropical Beck - Morning Phase Lake Street Dive - Bad Self Portraits War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream St. Vincent - St. Vincent Jamestown Revival - Utah Quilt - Held in Splendor Real Estate - Atlas Nickel Creek - A Dotted Line Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else Wolfmother - New Crown Broken Bells - After the Disco Band of Horses -Acoustic at the Ryman Peggy Sue - Choir of Echoes Hurray for the Riff Raff - Small Town Heroes
I've never listened because their name is horrendous. I assume you recommend it?
If you like electronic music with glitch then yes. 2 of the songs on the new record are with the lead singer of nico vega which is pretty neat. I saw them at BUKU and it was an amazing show and won't miss them at Roo for sure.

I like it, I look forward to seeing them at Roo barring conflicts. And I know I'm going to get killed for saying this, but I have a hard time putting EDM in my "Best Albums" list. I enjoy a good bit of the music of the electronic genre and a lot of the live shows are awesome. But when I listen to an album from someone like Glitch Mob or Big G (which I really like) I usualy think this would be fun to see live and dance my dick off but when comparing it to something like Sun Kil Moon or Angel Olsen, I just can't put them on the same list.

I love it. Truth be told, I've probably listened to that album more than any. It's the only cd my wife has in her car, and she does all the driving.
E: Live shows play a large factor in that too. Had he sucked when I saw him, it wouldn't be so high. This will all change by December though. Pinkie swear.
Pops, what jazz should I be listening to? That Roscoe Mitchell was the only thing that grabbed me this year, so far.
