I've said earlier in this thread that I believe in Chip and want to see his results, but you Eagles fans are reeeeeeeally drinking the Kool-Aid. It might turn out well, I have a suspicion it will actually. But you guys are pretty far up Chip's ass.
I'm with you here. Like I believe it will turn out well, but that belief isn't grounded in logic. It's more of a blind faith.
They're currently working on restructuring, and we were going to have to pay a QB money next year anyway. But still, we had 50 mill in cap space, and once Shady was gone, were going to use some of it to get a RB or 2. It's about the amount of money used on the position. Once you trade away a 11 mill in RB salary, you have a bit more to spend on RB.
I was wondering what kind of restructuring deal was in the works. Bradford knows as well as you and I that his contract doesn't represent performance. On the other side of that coin Foles will likely get overpaid despite his just above average ability.
I just thought they were going to shift more money than they have into the defense.
I think that was the original plan, but when McCourtey and Houston came off the market, there really wasn't anyone worth spending big on. Our only holes on defense now are S and CB2, and CB2 should be alright between Boykin, Carrol, & Thurmond battling it out in camp. The safety position was pretty horrible in FA this year outside McCourtey, so I expect to go G, S, & WR heavy in the draft. We're still at least a year or 2 away from contending considering the injury risks, holes, and lack of continuity, so I don't think they're in a rush to fill every hole with a big name player.

It's a bit of both, but I think Chip has earned some faith so far. There's a lot more logic to it than you guys think though. Every single one of these moves match up with what Chip has been preaching for a decade. Power running offense... zone blocking scheme... zone read... repetitive accuracy and decision making... stopping the run... versatility on O and D... element of surprise... strong back ups... it's all there.
Jimmie Johnson did the same thing when he coached the Boys. People thought he was nuts, but those who paid attention understood it was part of a plan. Coaches who do well have players that fit their scheme. Chip inherited a finesse team and wanted to play grinding, smash mouth football. Serious changes needed to happen, and it's the first year he had GM control. It's not like Chip is some monkey throwing darts. The team may not be good enough this year, but I'd rather let Chip do what he wants to do than hamstring him into playing a style of football that he doesn't.

Not really sure where this is coming from. I've pointed out that I'm skeptical of things, and like certain things. Most Eagles fans are pissed to be honest, because they don't really understand what Chip is doing. So how?
I think it was when you said that Murray was actually a better receiver than Shady. There's only evidence to show that they may be equals receiving. Shady, in Chip's offense, seems to have seen his receiving numbers go down. But there's no evidence that Murray's will be any better - maybe it's a Chip thing. Based on his time at Oregon, I would have thought Shady was a good fit for the offense as a receiver out of the backfield. Seems like the guys he recruited there - LaMichael, DAT, etc - are more like Shady.
Like I said, I like what Chip is doing, and I think his stuff that you've mentioned earlier (science, injury stuff, sleep tracking, etc) is both cutting edge and trend setting. I probably misspoke.
As a Pitt alum and a Bills fan, I'm also a huge Shady stan, so take into account that I cape for him hard.

I don't use stats to make claims. Too many variables in football to rely heavily on stats. I've found the eyeball test much more effective when analyzing players. Shady produced some good receiving stats under Reid, but that had more to do with the fact that he wouldn't run the damn ball, and called short passes to the RB "runs". He's not a very natural receiver. He bobbles the ball, and turns up field before securing the catch. He's also lost some YAC capability due to the loss of agility. He's also maybe the worst pass blocking starting RB in the NFL. He's a mess. Duce and Chip and started pulling him on 3rd downs and passing situations last year due to these issues. After Chips first season, and Shady's 17 TD's, he's been overrated in several areas of his game. He's awesome don't get me wrong, but he's far from a complete back. Incredible at some things, frustrating at others.
DAT and LaMichael were serious receiving threats in school, and Shady has always been a "workhorse" back. Even at Pitt. Sproles is much closer to DAT & LaMichael than Shady is.
Edit: If there's one route that Shady excels at, it's the Wheel route. He runs it perfectly, turns his head at the perfect time, and catches it well.

My boy Jimmy Johnson was a proven champion by the time he came into the NFL! What has Chip Kelly won? The PAC 10?

Yeah, that doesn't mean squat in the NFL though. People were making fun of Jimmie's move's all the same when he took over. The Oregon program speaks for itself I think.

Hahaha I feel ya. Just had to let my inner Dallas out for a moment. The fact that Oregon has yet to lose the (now) PAC-12 since he left really is impressive.

Oh sheesh. Dallas signed McFadden. Jerry loves the Razorback RB's. If he stays healthy, his numbers will improve greatly. Word is the Boys will be looking for a back in the draft. I would rather see them go after a pass rusher or a piece for the secondary early.

No worries haha. I'm not an Oregon fan at all, but it's hard not to be impressed. When you consider the fact that other PAC-12 schools seem to produce much better NFL talent than Oregon, it's amazing that they continuously win the division. CUSTOM SMOOTHIES FTW!

I'm not an Eagles fan at all. I just think Chip is making some smart moves this offseason.

I still think Darren McFadden was one of the most exciting players to ever watch when he was in college. It's a shame he had to get drafted by an organization like Oaklad. I hope he can improve for the better in Dallas.
As as NYG fan the most positive thing I see with regard to the McCoy/Murray switch is that it weakened the Cowboys. Although we will still have to see Shady again when we play the Bills this year unfortunately but so will the Eagles. That should be as pretty interesting game.

He should produce behind that line (I could, so he better), but his explosiveness is just about gone. He played a full season last year I believe, but was benched for poor performance.

He's only 27, so I'd say he's probably still got another 2-3 years of productive play before he starts to really deteriorate.

Not all 27 year olds are built the same. He was a college workhorse, and if you saw him last year, you know what I mean. He couldn't even get through arm tackles... Maybe it was a work ethic issue, but I didn't get that sense. It's just what I saw. Could certainly be wrong.
It's looking good in Buffalo. Percy Harvin, Shady, Matt Cassel, and Richie Incognito giving that team a much needed offense to go along with their already stellar defense.

As a Bills fan, those moves all give me reason to be even more nervous. Cassel isn't the answer. Harvin seems like an overhyped Robert Woods, and is a cancer in the locker room to boot. I trust in Rex though.

I agree with your Cassel statement. I think he's a temporary fix, but a much better option than throwing EJ Manuel in there. Tyrod Taylor isn't a terrible third stringer either. Cancer or not, Harvin can and will make an impact, and will make just as many explosive plays as Sammy did last year. He's a good addition.

Sammy, Percy, Shady, that's a lot of speed.
Generally, offense doesn't come from skill players. It comes from offensive line and QB play. Take it from a fan of the team that won the "Speed Super Bowl" every year...

Al Davis is that you?
Nope! After Al passed, the Eagles took over with Vick, Desean, Maclin, and Shady. He would have been so proud of us though.

Lol I'll never forget, I think it was the 2009 draft, the Raiders had like the number 7 pick, and one of my friends was convinced that they would take Darrius Heyward-Bey simply because of his 40 time, despite Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, and Percy Harvin all being available on the board. None of us believed him and I think even he was surprised when they actually made that bad of a pick. Mind you none of those other guys have gone on to be consistent superstars or anything like that, but they've all been better than DHB, to no surprise.

I remember watching that draft and just being amazed that Maclin slid. Really sad to see him go still.

It was a shame that he had trouble staying healthy while with you guys as well? Was it twice that he missed a full season? I know for sure that at least once he got hurt during spring training or preseason and ended up sitting the whole year out.

Chip's moves this offseason have seemed much more Steve Spurrier-like than Jimmy Johnson-like.

He still needs his Danny Wuerffel. Maybe the Ol' Ball Coach's system could have had even a little success in today's league.
