I would say Hangout at least equaled Bonnaroo. Plus it's on the beach. But less freedom.
Roo also has Black Star, Massive Attack, Decemberists....
People forget. These smaller fests can splurge on good headliners, then they have to fill out the lineups with sh*t bands like RAQ and Ozomatli and crap. Bonnaroo has a dope headlining set, then an undercard that's more stacked than any other fest.
It's kind of like in baseball - yeah, the Mariners might have Felix Hernandez, and he's the best starter in the AL, but then you look and the rest of their rotation is crap, whereas the Sox have Lester/Beckett/Buchholz/Lackey, and you're like "sh*t, the Sox #4 starter would be #2 on the Mariners," and you realize the depth that's present.
Bands that will be middle of the pack for Bonnaroo would be top 3 lines for other fests. Believe that.
An interesting argument, but you sort of come off like this:
There are more than a few gems on the Hangout undercard as well with about 30 unnamed acts left. Bonnaroo is obviously a more robust and diverse festival than Hangout. I've been to both, am going to both, and love them both. I just think the two are very comparable in quality this year.

is it even fair to compare yet? Released lineup vs. tweets & leaks?

I'll be going to both too and I think the Hangouts lineup is fantastic. I think the issue here is most people feel that with Bonnaroo being the size it is, the reputation it has and with it being the 10 year anniversary. That it should stack better against a festival that's only in it's second year. I think that's kind of irrelevant because if you want to make something happen and want to put the money out there you can such as what the Hangout has done.
