My (way) early MUST SEE list:
Radiohead Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Elvis Costello & the Imposters Bonnie Raitt Death Cab for Cutie Bright Eyes The Neville Brothers Buddy Guy Damian Marley Ben Folds Robert Randolph & the Family Band Dr. John Matisyahu G. Love & Special Sauce My Morning Jacket Cat Power Medeski Martin & Wood Nickel Creek Gomez Steve Earle Blues Traveler Son Volt Devendra Banhart Band Mike Doughty The Magic Numbers Seu Jorge (Life Aquatic!!!) Andrew Bird
I'm so f*cking psyched. SO F*CKING PSYCHED.
For the third year in a row, Bonnaroo will provide me a chace to see bands I normally wouldn't see, bands I'd like to check out without paying for an expensive ticket, and band I REALLY want to see but will NEVER play anywhere near me.
I hope they add a lot of other great bands. Only really five bands that I would really want to see. I'm happy for those of you who are really excited, it's just with my taste in music there isn't much for me to get excited about.
suspendedzen- I'm most interested in moe., Medeski Martin and Wood, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Soulive, and the Wood brothers (which includes Chris Wood from MMW) I didn't see Blues Traveler earlier and I would love to see them. Of course I'm always open to new music and there a few I would be interested in checking out but still, it's hard to justify paying that amount of money and driving that far. Especially when I've seen moe. and MMW a bunch. I mean this lineup doesn't look bad by any standards. Just for myself, past years I've been far more excited about bands I've seen and heard and bands I've heard of but never seen. Oh well, can't make any big decisions when there are still more to be announced.

Umph, what about robert randolph, rusted root, mmj, Dr. john, and soulive? The last two are jazzy, but they still jam a lot. Have you not really seen those, or do they just not thrill you, because i think youd really enjoy those shows too based on what you've said. And theres obviously some good bands out of that last section that are unknown.
yeah I love Soulive and I have yet to see them so that would rock. MMJ is ok but I've seen half their set a couple times. Never got into it enough to stay, also cuz they usually are playing at the same time as someone I won't miss. Robert Randolph is fun but I feel the same way about him as I do Keller. I love them but once you've seen them live a couple times it's nothing special anymore. I won't use the word "novelty act" like a lot of people do because they are spectacular musicians. I just feel like with them if you've seen one show then you've kinda seen them all. Some of the bands I've never heard of could be awesome. I'm just saying my initial thougts aren't very excited.

Your right, there is no hip hop on there. The good news though is that this is far from the final schedule and im sure they'll add several hip hop acts, and some djs, which i noticed were lacking as well. Hopefully we can get some dangerdoom, cover both those areas.

Is it just me or does that seem like a LOT of bands for just being the initial lineup? (I count 58)
Perhaps they arent a lot of smaller less known bands now, and have already gotten that out of the way. The way it was, last year atleas, theyd announce like 2 bigger bands, then like 10 smaller bands with the early updates, maybe itl just be the bigger bands at the begining this year. That is a lot though.

How many artists did they end up revealing after the initial announcement last year? This seems to be a pretty large initial list. Did they announce any other large acts last year after the initial announcement (such as the Allman Brothers or The Dead)? I can't remember if the artists added after the initial were all smaller, lesser known bands or not.
For some reason I just assumed it WASN'T meant to be Doves...
but you guys are probably right. Awesome.
Edit: I found some electronica band from the 90's called "Dove," but AllMusic.com has no other information on them. So I think Doves are a safe assumption until the morning comes to confirm that!
I love this paper..it seems to give much need info. Ticket Sales and prices are on the botton of the articale...Enjoy!
Bonnaroo '06 is getting its acts together Tickets for music festival in its fifth year go on sale Feb. 11 on Web site
By WAYNE BLEDSOE, bledsoe@knews.com February 1, 2006
Bonnaroo organizer Ashley Capps sees the announcement of the 2006 Bonnaroo music festival as a milestone. "It's the fifth anniversary and we're really proud of that," said Capps. "We always had a long-term vision for this. It's such a massive undertaking that to only do it once would not be the best use of anyone's time."
The yearly music festival is held on 700 acres of farmland in Manchester, Tenn., between Nashville and Chattanooga. Since the inaugural event in 2002, Bonnaroo has grown into one of the premier festivals in the country and has drawn between 60,000 and 100,000 music fans to Manchester each year. The event was conceived and is promoted by Knoxville's A.C. Entertainment and New Orleans' Superfly Productions Presents.
The 2006 Bonnaroo, June 16-18, will be headlined by platinum selling and critically acclaimed artists Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Beck. The rest of the 60 artists confirmed for the festival include everyone from African couple Amadou and Mariam, alternative rock favorites Death Cab for Cutie, rock legend Elvis Costello, singer/songwriter Bright Eyes, bluegrass great Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, R&B comeback artist Bettye LaVette, college favorite Devendra Barnhart, New Orleans favorites Dr. John and the New Birth Brass Band and reggae legends Steel Pulse.
Although Bonnaroo was not planned as a jam band event, early festivals were associated with the movement due to headliners who were top artists in the jam band movement.
"It was always a music festival to us," said Capps.
Capps said that negotiations to include Radiohead at Bonnaroo had been ongoing for more than two years, but it wasn't until 2006 that the event could fit into the band's schedule. A Beck appearance had also been in the works for a long time.
Some artists plan special shows. Elvis Costello and his band the Imposters will perform with special guest Allen Toussaint.
Other artists, such as theatrical music cabaret act The Dresden Dolls will, according to Capps, "break the rules for many people about what Bonnaroo is all about."
At least 16 other headline acts are still in negotiations for playing the festival and many small tent acts will be announced later.
While early Bonnaroo festivals had problems with traffic and other technical aspects, the 2005 festival went smoothly on all fronts.
Capps said that limiting capacity of the festival seemed key to making Bonnaroo a comfortable event and capacity for the 2006 event will be limited to 78,000.
"Our goals have been fairly consistent - just striving to make it the best festival as we could," said Capps.
Tickets for Bonnaroo will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at www.bonnaroo.com. As usual, the tickets will only be available through the Web site. Ticket prices have not yet been announced, but are expected to increase 5 percent over the 2005 prices ($146.50-$172.50, plus a service charge and shipping).
One of Capps' 2006 goals is simply to be part of the audience:
"I've never been more excited by a Bonnaroo line-up. One challenge for me is going to be arranging my schedule so I can see everything I want to see."
This lineup is absolutely mind boggling. I never thought they could top the '04 lineup but from where I'm sitting they have. I'm feeling the exact same feeling of awe and admiration for Superfly and AC that I felt when the first lineup came out in '02 and when that '04 lineup came out with Wilco, David Byrne and killer Bonnaroo lineup to boot.
The quantity of acts announced is interesting, it looks like there will be considerably fewer lineup additions.
