Just out of curiosity, what are everyone's predictions for the lineup in 2006?
I'm hoping for 1. Pink floyd (never going to happen) 2. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 3. Nickel Creek 4. Ben Harper 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers 6. Eric Clapton 7. John McLaughlin 8. Jimmy Buffett. 9. Rilo Kiley

Though I would absolutely love to see Jimmy Buffett and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, their presence would be pretty odd in a music festival such as Bonnaroo. I think RHCP were at Cochella, actually. I'd rather see more jam bands to add to the atmosphere. Just my two cents.
Personally, I think Bonnaroo could really use some departure from the jam band scene a little bit. I'd like to see a fresh infusion of bands this year to go along with the jam band staples.

OK HERES MY HUMBLE 2 CENTS:
OK...THIS IS BONNAROO!!!!
if u guys wanna see bands the RHCP(who i like) and other hard rock acts go to lollapalooza or the various other huge rock festivals...
i have to say ..i went to bonnaroo 04' and 05' ..
i def. noticed in 05 how many non"hippies" there were (i guess an example would be seeing all the "newcomers" leave during the first yondermountain song.. saying they sucked)
please if you dont like bands like yondermountain, bela fleck, MCgee, for example ... DONT GO
please if you dont like bands like yondermountain, bela fleck, MCgee, for example ... DONT GO
This doesn't really seem fair to me; i was there in '04 and '05 as well, and i'm not at all into those bands (although we were in hearing distance of yonder mountain in '04 and enjoyed listening to it, they were definitely not one of the bands that brought us there). It seems to me that there is time and space for variety; one of the draws of the first year was that there were artists i really like (ani difranco and david byrne), artists my boyfriend really likes (primus and x-ecutioners), and artists we like together (beth orton and we were both disappointed about willie nelson). I wouldn't call either of us hippie types, but we both really enjoyed the spirit and the atmosphere of the weekend as well as the music....
also, keeping the variety limited won't necessarily limit the type of people (not to mention that limiting the type of people seems to go against the hippie spirit in general)....the guys camped next to us were there to see string cheese (who i am admittedly not familiar with, but i take it they are of the jam band variety) and, if anything, they seemed like frat guys to me
I'm not saying this to be for or against change...i just don't like the idea of excluding people who don't like a certain type of music when, in my experience, there have been other types of music there that they do enjoy
Sorry to post so far off topic....
On topic.... I would love to see beck; I'd love it very much if the mars volta came back; I'd be thrilled to finally see Willie Nelson; I think Jimmy Buffet would be pretty cool to see there (but I would probably have difficulty convincing my boyfriend to sit through that one);
I think I'd probably go, though, even if there were not any bands I actually wanted to see

I've been to Bonnaroo in 04 and 05 and think that it's the greatest place on earth (not to steal any theme parks moniker). Although, I am not a hippy. I think the definition of one has changed significantly over the years, but I still wouldn't consider myself one. I am, however a music lover, everything from metal and hardcore to jazz and classical - so I love bonnaroo for it's diversity, and I think that's what it's supposed to be about. I like the dynamics of the festival and it's ability to reach so many people without causing riots or violence. It offers something for everyone and I don't think that you should have to love any one type of band to be there. I am a lover of Bela Fleck and I saw Yonder Mountain last year and was blown away, but I have to say that My Morning Jacket and the Mars Volta were by far my favorites - musically anyways. I dig the fact that there is so much to do and that the atmosphere is perfect and the bands that play are just add to it. So no matter who plays I will go and have a good time (fingers crossed for MMJ though)

check out some of jimmy buffet's b-side stuff... it'd be perfect for bonnaroo
