I really want to make some smock dresses too, but I always have a problem finding smocking that is long enough to cover my 34DDDs. I have one dress that the smocking is supposed to come down almost to the waist on a normal person, but it fits like a normal smock dress on me. Most of those smocked fabrics have such short smocking that it would stop like mid-boob on me. So sad

The one I got from Kohls totally covers my 34Ds (almost DD). The top of it is all smocking. I got a large - they are in the Junior section. You can find them, you just have to try on a lot of dresses......

the one thing I have a problem with is getting a head wrap or bandanna on! I never seem to put it on right to where it does not loosen or fall off. maybe I can google some head wrap directions. haha
I think the key to head wraps and bandanas is to not wear them too far back...they need a bit of the skin on your forehead to hold on to, especially if you have thin, fine hair.
You wrap them around your head twice, but they grip really well! I'm very happy with them - i have very fine straight hair and bandanas are always sliding off!

^^ very cute!
I just got a cute flowy pink paisley printed dress & green crocs! One outfit down for roo, a few more to go!
I was shopping at Sam's club, & they have cute little terry cloth dresses on sale for $9 in a multitude of colors. I was thinking about buying a few and that being that for my roo clothing, sans a few other items.
I would rather wear dresses to roo & not have to worry with tops & skirts.. it makes decision making easier lol.
^^awesome find, kaleidoscope kristen! although, depending on the terry cloth, it could be very hot or it could be very cool. I once had a terry cloth tube top I picked up at Planet Exchange in Knoxville -- so awesome, fit beautifully & was not hot at all in the summer. Best friend borrowed it the summer between freshman & sophomore year of college and some jerk stole it from her. I have a vintage '70s yellow terry sundress that is too frakkin' hot to wear in mid-summer....except at work, where the AC is cranked waaay up.
Oh, I did score a couple of awesome finds today at Goodwill! I was leaving Hancock Fabric and decided to pull into Goodwill to see if they had any black or brown gaucho pants to wear with some apron tops I'm making. Lo and behold, they had some!
And I found the skirt I've been looking for! White cotton gauze faery/pixie skirt. Also found a hot pink superlightweight jersey strappy mini dress with a pixie hem too.
Spent less than $20 there and I know I will get a lot of wear out of all of it before and after Roo!
^^love the fairy skirt. bought a fairy dress off of ebay last night
not making my clothing desicion any easier on myself. went to target and rue 21 ansd bought some more dresses. ill never figure out what i wanna bring to roo!

great finds kahoops! I'm a lucky one that can also find nice items at the local goodwill. My friends complain that they never can find anything but junk so idk lol maybe it's the scavenger in me?
i'm planning on getting my hands a little messy and I'm going to *attempt* to tie die a few things. I'm trying to find a whit cotton-jersey type dress I can tie dye, but if that's a no-go I may get creative with oversized t-shirts.
there are a lot of good tutorials on youtube for tie dying if anyone's interested!

I went to Forever 21 today... I havent been in the mall since December. I had to actually take a time out and sit down for a minute... I was so excited. The dresses there are so super cute though! And dresses at Pac Sun are 50% off right now! I told myself no more shopping for Roo (clothing wise) but this thread is making it very difficult.
I keep googling "head wraps" and I'm not getting the results I want (stupid non-mind reading internet...) are there any good actual stores that might carry something like that? I would have checked out more stores today but after the Forever 21 "incident" (aka my credit card hurt) I had to go home...
bought my kiddo a tie dye kit for her birthday and we did it on mother's day - my hands a re still a little purple at the edges from a failed attempt to dye a sheet with a series of knots.... but anyway the shirts turned out pretty good. i haven't done anything remotely creative in a while so it felt good, and it was fun for us all to do something together. we actually tested out the tent the night before, too.
the first two are kiddo's...... the dare shirt i picked up at a thrift store forever ago and hadn't done anything with yet, i did, and kiddo and i can both wear it (thinking about modding it to be smaller)... the next two are mine (the tank is upside down so the straps don't stretch)..... and the last two are husband's
it seems like everyone is finding cute and comfy and unique things to wear, so awesome! not that i am shallow or anything but its nice when you knwo you look good, you feel confident and then you don't have to think about it, and when you're comfortable you aren't fussing with stuff all day. i think everyone will feel awesome and comfy and confident in the heat without stressing about their clothes or being bugged by something, judging by all the cute stuff everyone here has found.!!

Tying is a lot easier than you think! Just make sure and use colors beside one another that would blend well, should you use too much and if you want more white space make sure and pull it tighter as you tie it Start out with the single spiral that goes out from the middle and as you get more comfortable try more intricate stuff. Tie dying really is hard to fuck up as long as you just go with it and don't start out with a set idea of what you want everything to look like.
As discussed earlier, it's much better/easier to do it outside, in clothes you don't mind messing up. We bought those cheap ketchup and mustard squeeze bottles at Wal*Mart 6+ years ago and I still have 'em to this day. The more/less water you use to dilute the dye (assuming you're using the powdered dyes) the more/less bold and bright the colors are gonna be... okay, I'm gonna stop nerding out now
Hey ladies! There are some seriously cute things in this thread! I haven't been checking in too often, but I've been putting together my Roo clothes pile and only need a few more things. I'm so happy that I am moving to a town that has a Target. You girls that live right beside one have no clue how lucky you are! I've been living without one for almost 18 months and it has almost killed me. Now, I will have one within 10 minutes of my house.
Cheeky: I want to learn to tie dye so bad! Maybe you can show me how to twist up some things at Roo.
Quick tip for the ladies who wear bathing suits mostly during the weekend... Rinse your suits out really well at the end of every day. Sunscreen will ruin your suits if you leave it in the fabric. Depending on the sunscreen, it could fade your suit or even ruin the elastic.
I'm planning to tiedye some old sheets in lue of tapestries - the one I want is too expensive. I've never tiedyed before but I found this website that has some decent directions on different styles. Thought it might help someone else out too. www.ritdye.com/Tie-Dye+Patterns.17.lasso
I've done very well so far this year not buying a bunch of new clothes for Roo. But looking over this thread, I think that's all going to change this weekend! I now have an itch that can only be scratched by shopping for some cute dresses and tops!

I'm a 1st time Roo-er, and am bringing sports bras, bathing suit tops, and regular bras and will probably interchange throughout the day. I want something underneath any shirt I wear that's decent enough that I can strip off the shirt and not feel naked. Bra-less is not an option for me...even though I'm a C.
i love summer dresses! they are SO easy to wear. no thinking = good. i am going to wear my bathing suit underneath so i can get wet/strip my clothes off & still be comfortable.
for headwraps: i like using thin, wide scarves. they are multifunctional. you can make it a wrap skirt, a headband, a blanket, a towel, cover your sunburned shoulders, dip it in your ice cooler & cool yourself off. keeps the sun off the part in your hair too.
that etsy site is cute! i'm glad you guys found it.
