My wife and I have GA tickets for Brandi Carlile at Red Rocks in September. We’ve been to Red Rocks, but it was 15 years ago. We want to try to get the best spot possible for the show. Does anyone have any tips for a game plan? How early should/can we get there? Is there food once we’re there? Thanks in advance!
Upcoming Shows: 5/15 - They Might Be Giants @ Madison Theater 6/2 - Pigeons PPP/Andy Frasco/Dogs in a Pile @ MEGACORP Pavilion 6/5 - Pixies/Modest Mouse/Cat Power @ Andrew J. Brady Center 6/13-6/16 - Bonnaroo 7/25 - Foo Fighters/Pretenders @ Great American Ballpark 7/26 - Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew: Remain In Light @ Bogart's 7/28 - Brett Goldstein @ Taft Theatre 8/4 - Phish @ Deer Creek Music Center 8/17 - The Jayhawks @ Memorial Hall

Like any venue, the earlier you get there the better the spot. Fortunately, if you get there we’ll before anyone else does, you can hike around or check out the museum. Neither of these take up too much time so you don’t need to worry too much about the line getting crazy while you’re gone.

Going in a few weeks to MMJ so also open to tips. I do know there can be different GA sections, right?. When I do the Saturday date my cousin said grab GA and we'll find a spot under one of the trees on the side or something.
I'll follow his lead on Saturday but I am going to want to go in early on Friday and try to get some merch.

If money is not an issue, I’d see if you can upgrade your ticket to closer than GA, especially with what Tristan said. There’s not really a bad seat and the higher up seats have cooler views of the scenery but the crowd can be really obnoxious in GA there. Lots of people there just to chat with friends and it can be annoying. Being up closer gives you the better view and the more serious fans

This may sound obvious, but it was something I took for granted when I went. The altitude really has an impact on alcohol use etc. One of the only times in my life that I've ever become sick while drinking was there. Will def be slowing it down at the shows I have coming up there this year.
See you soon, itrainmonkeys!Excited for the magic of MMJ at RR again.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

The master of all tips: DO NOT rent a car from the Hertz at the airport, or do the premium upgrade if you must. Figured paying only 20 bucks extra was worth not taking the train both ways. Just waited 2 hours for a Honda Accord.

Oh! I actually need to book a rental car. What do you recommend?

Last trip I rented off site and took the train to the station nearest the rental car company.
I would also probably not recommend the Motel 6 in Lakewood. I can be a total tightass sometimes, and so went looking for mom and pop motor inns or super cheap motels and found this one that is like 68 a night. It is fine if you are not fussy at all and want cheap and near RR. But if you have an aversion to meth-heads and grime, stay away.

Ha. Good to know. We booked an Airbnb in Lakewood.

If you are going to go in early to tailgate/wait in line for a good GA seat, I recommend the North upper lot after having done both. The walk in isn't bad at all, it is not very steep. The line seemed shorter than the south lot. It brings you in on stage right. I ended up in the 12th row for MMJ the second night. I got in line at 2pm (friends had a spot 10th in line and went earlier, around noon), but I would have been maybe 25th in line if I didn't have them saving a spot. People will cut in ahead of you because their friends/significant others etc claimed space and put up EZ ups etc to tailgate in line. This is an accepted practice, so don't be alarmed if you get there early and it feels like you are 10th in line and suddenly become 25th in line at 6:15. Bring a blanket or something to "claim" your GA seats once you get in there. You can run in, claim a spot with your stuff and then go get drinks and meander and no one will mess with it(from my experience). If you end up on stage left, there is a lesser used set of bathrooms down at the bottom. Go down to the stage area, you will see bathrooms to your right and a set of stairs to your left. Take the stairs down and you will see some nice bathrooms that generally have no line.

This is great info. Thanks!
The high temperature Saturday is now 56 with a 50% chance of rain. The chill I can handle. Hopefully the rain holds off.
