Look, I'm not a fan of Rogan. He's clearly said some shitty things on his show and has platformed some awful people. Why he's like this is debatable. I think he just doesn't consider the consequences and truly believes that it's good to hear everyone out.... and he's probably took too many drugs. I don't know. He clearly needs to be more considerate of the power he has in platforming shitty folks. An apology for some of his remarks would be good too. But that's neither here nor there.
Trans people and people of color have every right to not like him and hold him accountable. Their anger with him is justified. I'd also say it's imperative to watch out for power dynamics here. The dominate group does tend to get preferential treatment within a coalition. These are all valid concerns that we need to be aware of and work to prevent.
But a lot of the folks trying to make hay with this topic are completely disingenuous. We know Warren, Biden and Buttigeig wanted to go on his show and he turned them down. Fuck, Hillary was on Howard Stern just a couple weeks ago and there wasn't any uproar there. Her statements where lifted up. We have history on our side to show us liberals are often fine with questionable endorsements. The Democrates turning to centrism and working with the GOP in the 80s and 90s have actually harmed millions of people. Both in domestic policy and imperialist endeavors. But we are suppose to ignore that as just politics. The compromises that had to be made to be in power. Some goddamn how, that's okay. But Bernie points out he's won over a podcaster and it's the end of the world.
The key to this whole thing is Bernie didn't offer compromises for Rogan or his fans' votes. If he started getting mealymouthed on, say, trans rights that would be a huge problem. But this is good politics. This is winning people over with your ideas. Maybe some of them have checkered pasts but so do I. I grew up in a redneck town surrounded by racists. It's impossible to not have your worldview tainted by that. I had to learn and evolve past those ways of thinking. There's a lot of disaffected youth in Rogan's audience. We can either try to welcome them by winning them over with our ideas or we can cast them aside and hope they end up not voting instead of in the alt-right/GOP/whatever.
Is does speak to a broader problem in American politics. It's difficult to gain a majority without teaming up with people that you don't necessarily like. Also, with the way the GOP is relaying more on voter suppression to keep power... it's more difficult for the Dems to do it. Which doesn't bode well with the cancel culture mentality. It also doesn't bode well for a future where we need to be winning state and local power to combat climate change.

By the way, call your Senators today and implore them to call witnesses for the Impeachment trial. It takes less than a minute and is one of the best ways to actually get them to do something. Yes, even if you live in a deeply red state.
I already called mine. One had someone answer and take my call, the other's voicemail was full as it always is. I'm a hit up his Metairie office I think.
I was watching Ari Melber this morning and he brought up the interesting quirk about the Iowa Caucuses. If your committed candidate doesn't score 15% in the caucus room you're in during the first round, you become a free agent. He showed the most recent average polling where Klobucher is maybe around 9% and whose votes would probably (mostly) go to Biden. Senator Warren was around 14%. You'd think her votes would mostly go to Bernie but probably 25-30% would go to Biden/Buttigieg. You'd think this would be pretty good news for Bernie supporters. Trump's defense team trying to flip this shit on Biden along with the original holding up the aid shows how worried they are about facing Joe Biden in the generals. It's been speculated that Trump has sort of kept his hands off Bernie because he prefers that match-up. I don't have an opinion one way or the other as to who is the better match up in the long run, but Biden probably does create trouble in the rust belt states.
re: rogan and transphobic comments. i am definitely not a rogan expert, but i listen to his podcast maybe once every couple of months, and sometimes i watch clips of the podcast on youtube. the "transphobic" comments i've noticed primarily tend to revolve around fairness in athletic competition, meaning it's not fair for someone with the physical advantages of a male to compete against females. he probably harps on this topic too frequently, i imagine as a society we'll figure this out eventually, but it seems his comments are limited to that specific area.
i've never heard anything racist from him, so it's surprising for me to hear that accusation tossed around after the bernie semi-endorsement.
from what i've seen on the joe rogan subreddit, his fans aren't angels, but they are overwhelmingly left leaning politically, meaning most of them are bernie supporters. of course that could just be the natural left lean of reddit, but still.
all that to say that i don't think rogan and his fanbase are the enemies here. i'm not some huge rogan fan but i don't think he is a hateful or bigoted person.

Didn't Joe Rogan advance or agree with the theory that Obama was born in Kenya? He was a birther, which is where I think some of (if not all) the racist charges stem.

I've followed Joe Rogan pretty closely last few years and have never heard anything about this. I looked it up and there's one deleted tweet in 2012 about it? But there aren't any good sources which leads me to believe it's probably fake. I also found this clip from 2016 where Rogan is saying that he doesn't think Obama is a liar. He says that Obama may have had some views that changed once he got into office, but he isn't a liar. He also appears to mock the idea of birthers, so that makes me question him being a birther even more.

The birther tweet is real. A follow up is still on his timeline. While I think it's stupid to buy into any of that I wouldn't call that tweet proof he was a birther. More like he was entertaining a conspiracy theory... something Rogan has been known to do. That doesn't fully excuse it but I think folks claiming he was a full on birther lack evidence. It certainly doesn't appear like he was spending time on his podcast discussing it, etc.
FYI, this isn't the racism I was alluding to above. He made a racist joke involving going to see Planet of the Apes and using the title to describe the African American neighborhood the theater was in. There are a couple other bad jokes like that floating around. So he definitely has some problems on the race front. Like I said above, I can understand why people wouldn't like him or trust him.

the wording in some of his quotes would be considered transphobic. Implied advantages because of gender transition, denying the validity of someone's identity, etc. I think it's partly out of ignorance and it seems in MMA it's not a black and white issues as far as advantages? I don't know... I don't care about MMA or sports or any of that shit. Regardless, the "she's a fucking man" stuff is pretty strait-forward transphobia.
But my thing is Sanders isn't endorsing him. I doubt he knows shit about Rogan. Rogan said, "I'll probably vote for Bernie." The campaign used that to show they have reach with independents, etc. That's all that's happened. Rogan isn't getting a cabinet spot nor will he have any pull within the administration. He's simply voting for policies that will benefit those he's offended. That doesn't make him a saint. It just means he's reachable and does seem to agree that we should work towards a greater good.
I think it's fine to dislike him but to pretend Rogan's past statements are directly tied to Sanders reeks of desperation.
Quick reminder: Rogan was on a show where people did idiotic and dangerous stunts for the glory of being watched. He also left after realizing how crazy that was. Jimmy Kimmel had a show called the "Man Show" that no matter how much you might have enjoyed it was a misogynistic shit show; but we give Kimmel way more freedom to express because he seem authentic.
All of this is stupid. My point is this is all stupid.
Sanders went on Rogan. Every major candidate asked to go there. Hillary went on STERN. Howard fucking Stern.
We aren't having consistent arguments about ethics, we are having a feelings fest. I need Iowa and Super Tuesday to just happen yesterday.

They are such fucking babies who can't stand being asked a tough question that they know they have no answer to. They just go on the attack while also playing the victim.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever watched, who actually votes these people into office?
Someone please tell me rush hour is a thing he's saying about the run up to Iowa.
I can't imagine how that could've meant anything other than him getting Dave and Chris Tucker mixed up haha
He definitely didn't get Dave and Chris Tucker mixed up. Dave has endorsed him and has been doing shows for his campaign for basically the past month. Unfortunately it seems like a bad joke because Andrew Yang is asian and Dave Chappelle is black? Also I guess a play on of the run up to Iowa. Idk just an eye rolling joke if anything.

Oh wow. That makes sense, but yes very eye-rolling.

Lol... Rush Hour is the most famous movie, by far, where a black man and an asian man team up together to accomplish something. I’m not over here belly laughing, but uhh that joke is fine. Especially since its in the context of him being the funniest / goofiest candidate by a wide margin its not like he’s Amy or something.

If the joke has to be explained, the odds are high it's a bad joke. Which is fine! He's a politician, not a comedian. Everything he does doesn't need to be defended.

And also everything he does doesnt need to be dramatized and criticized? I haven’t posted here about Yang as much recently and Ill go away again unless he somehow gains momentum.

By and large we dramatize and criticize everyone (who isn't Bernie, at least). No one's singling Yang out. Most here probably like Yang more than most of the Dem candidates.

Yeah. Yang isn't my first choice, but I don't have a reason currently to dislike him.
Woo! Between Marsha and this, Tennessee is well on our way to securing our title again in 2020 for being the dumbest state.
I love freedom and personal liberty. I also vote for Representatives who write legislation saying CNN was mean to me.
This is, of course, a waste of time but it's not bad propaganda work. The GOP fucking loves this shit. Their voters are all about grievances and this is really all the GOP has to offer the working class. Calling out liberal elites, etc. Sadly it works on far too many people.
In other news, it's really rich to see basically every Iraq War cheerleader that still has a job in the media are all against Bernie. It's shocking really. Rubin, Chait, Frum, and Boot are hard at it this week. Some of them are never trumpers who are trying to scare the Dems into thinking they need their votes. LOL
