Driving to the fest has gotten harder every single year just due to the festival cutting down on how much parking is available. Theres barely 3 lots now Nd it wont shock me if they shrink it again this year. Yeah, theyve used that space to expand camping and add the rideshare lots and whatnot but it means you have to get there very early to get a spot anyway. Last year on weekend 2 I went to Sunday Service and then back to my hotel. I took a quick nap and got ready to go back around 3 ish. I received an app alert that parking was full and to just go to Indian Wells and shuttle in for free. So we did that and it was a breeze. Its the shortest walk into the grounds and they get around so much of the traffic thats in the area of the festival. The rideshare lot is a stupidly far walk in and out of the festival and the wait as stated seems too much if a burden for everyone thats trying to get out of there. Plus you have to budget for those rides and it can add up since the rates are going to be insane. How is it better to take an uber/lyft at the cost of say $25 a person when you get a shuttle pass for say $30 the week of and it covers your needs. And yeah if you just take a car to the closest shuttle stop, that would cut down costs and inconviniences too.
I’ve been listening to some of Dua Lipa’s new music, and Coachella really dropped the ball by not having her on the second line. She would’ve been a much more interesting sub than Flume.
Whats even worse is that her album is being released a week before weekend 1. Interesting timing I would think. Billie last year and Cardi the year before had their albums drop a week before the fest. Kendrick weekend 1 in 2017. So what gives. And she still hasnt announced any u.s dates at all which seems odd.
yeah, and just check on ebay too. A few people said they got em last year for about that price last minute, so it seems to be a safe bet you can get a good price.
My group decided to do shuttles one year (we're in palm desert), and the shuttle situation the Friday that year was an absolute shitshow
For years I just leave 15 mins before the end of the headliner for the shuttle. You hear the songs as you walk and get home 90-120 minutes earlier than those that stay to the bitter end and don't race to the shuttles.
At ACL I got home so fast we used the hotel pool 2 festival nights before it closes at 11pm.

I did that in 2018 and still had massive back up at the shuttles, I HAVE to camp now, just a short walk back
This new Against All Logic track with FKA twigs is awesome. It’s a shame he doesn’t want to play Coachella. Would have been a top notch Yuma booking.
Even in 2014, the Yuma wasn’t a good spot to throw him. Got in for the last 20 minutes of duke dumont just to make sure we wouldn’t miss any of his set and it ended up being packed out. Gobi or Mojave would be perfect, and I hope they book him next year so I have an excuse to return.

Damn, so Nicolas Jaar isn't a fan of Coachella? That sucks. Against All Logic has been really high up on my wishlist since that album he released in 2018. These new tracks are brutal in a good way. Definitely not as casual of a listen as 2012-2017 though.
Is Nicolas Jaar just AAL going forward or are they still considered separate projects?

He also has AEAEA project too - I think AAL is just one of his aliases
I can 100% confirm he thinks Coachella is super mainstream and not his target audience, and he definitely got talked into doing it as a solo artist in 2017.
I didn't hear anything about him never playing it again though, especially under an alias that might be more pop sounding, but I knew he had to be sold on it in 2017 so wouldn't count on him playing again.
Heard this from an industry dude. Some of it known, some of it I don't think has been mentioned here.
MCR was booked to headline, signed the contract for a $4M guarantee. Frank became available late and demanded top billing (no co-headline) and "full control of his day" (whatever that means...maybe control over sub/lead-in or maybe that's another way of saying no co-h). MCR wasn't going to take a demotion to non-hl so got bumped for Frank, but still got paid their $4M since the hl contract was in the can.

That last part sounds insane, getting paid $4m for nothing. It's also wild that Coachella would take such a loss for Frank Ocean.
So if this is the case, what's the deal with Calvin Harris? A lot of us assumed he was a last minute replacement for MCR. Which could still be the case but that means they shuffled some things around.
They could've still co-headlined with Travis though. Doesn't make sense.
You may not be aware of this, but no one wants to co-headline. You also didn't read the part where MCR refused a demotion after signing a hl contract so they weren't going to co-hl with anyone.

I find that story incredibly hard to believe, unless GV are just unfathomably bad at business, which doesn’t seem to be the case. Though they did go up to the wire in 2019 planning on Kanye headlining without having a contract, so, maybe they are indeed terrible at it.

I mean it sounds just like a cold calculation. They signed MCR when no better options were available. A better option became available, and they were stuck with going with what they had, or paying a penalty to go with what they thought was a better option. Being the highest grossing festival in the world gives them that freedom I guess.

If MCR still got paid that'd be wild. They would've definitely not been a cheap booking. Watching them eviscerate an arena tour this morning has been insane. looks like $150 for nosebleeds at The Forum, and they still sold out both dates in a few minutes.
I definitely underestimated their draw, and I would say I'm a fan. I guess this is what happens when an emo band who was super popular among middle & high school crowd reunites after all those kids hit their mid 20s - early 30s and have the ability to go see them. I have to imagine they would've sold out weekend 2 fairly quickly if they'd been on the bill.
Paying a band their $4m guarantee then letting them walk to your competitor for an arena tour that is gonna sell out on the day of on-sale at an average ticket price of ~$150 just to sign and give full control to a guy who will be around for decades and who has a ~33% hit rate of honoring committed shows sounds bad, but they don't pay me the big bucks to book it.
No way they kept their fee. i could see them getting to keep a percentage up front, but not all of it.And considering how much they got for the Shrine Show its over 5 mil for 3 performances and not even including all points east or firefly.

This is why attorneys deal with contracts and not you. If GV was responsible for the breach and there was no out clause, then yes, they would be entitled to the entire fee. This is simple 1L shit.

I'd much rather see Frank than MCR, but I'm not sure I believe a story that says after taking a hit from being burned by a headliner with a history of flaking last year, they'd go all-in on a headliner with a history of flaking this year.
