Might be risky if sales spike for some reason but it's likely to be a lot cheaper to go weekend 2 and buy tix on Stubhub Thursday night or even Friday morning, then pick them up at the Stubhub site a few miles from the fest.
With Rage and Frank on the lineup, are you sure about that?
6/9: Gary Clark Jr.? 6/23: Brittany Howard? 7/13: elrow 7/20: Mt. Joy 7/28: Justice 7/31: Romy 8/2: The Marias? 8/18: Mitski? 8/19: Taylor Swift 8/23: Crumb? 8/29: Pearl Jam? 9/5: L'Impératrice 9/7: Bruce Springsteen? 9/12: Pearl Jam? 9/23: Khruangbin 9/26: Charli XCX/Troye Sivan? 9/28-9/29: All Things Go 9/30: Vampire Weekend 10/4-10/6: ACL?
What's the best way to camp for someone flying in? I've sorta assumed that I'd have to basically buy camping gear and either sell it or trash it after.

The only year recently to pop off on StubHub was 2018 with Beyoncé IIRC.

Wait are tickets 399 or 429 I forgot (429 post fees right?)
I'm going weekend 2 and was thinking about this idea, but there is a risk it sells for over face even or around it with this lineup. Last year I'm pretty sure some tix were 250-270 pre fees, so like $330-350 post fees. So I can save $80-100 bucks. But if they sell for about like $350, then I would basically break even and now have the hassle of picking it up and more stress. And if they sell for face or more, then that would really suck

Check a bag with your camping gear. Did it for 5 years. Only thing that sucks is the lack of a table and chairs for when you're hanging at the campsite but we made due.

I guess an EZ-Up isn't essential the way it is at Roo?

This, and t also helps to find people whose group you can join so they can bring stuff too

An easy up is 100% essential. That may be one “buy and return” item you have to consider.

I flew with a hockey bag (classic Canadian) that had: an ez up w/canopy, tent, 2 camping chairs, sleeping bag, air mattress, shower bag, various hiking gear.

I'll never forget camping at Firefly in 2016 without an EZ-Up. At 7am our tent basically became a sauna because of so much direct sunlight and heat, so we'd wake up in a hot sweat, incredibly dehydrated and unable to go back to sleep. I imagine it's much worse in the desert, lol.

For camping, I’d also highly recommend a portable 10” battery powered fan to extend your sleep window. My group turned them on last year whenever the light woke us up and snoozed comfortably until 10. After baking with no EZ up in 2013 and 2015 wk2, the canopy (with tapestry/side walls) made the biggest difference for us. The fan will just make the inevitable morning sweat work in your favor. You could Amazon a cheap one to yourself and let it be a sunk cost.
As an aside for anyone that annually makes the drive in, Home Depot sells Ryobi One+ compatible fans and misting systems. So you can load up with like 10-20 amp hours of batteries and have a solid cooling system for the weekend. Real nice for midday trips back to the campsite. A bit of an investment if you don’t already have some batteries, but it’s well worth it just to use on Coachella alone.

Love the camping tips. Gotta invest in some batteries
You will all find this pathetic but I want to buy a sprinter van for festivals and scuba diving. I think about festival camping more than any healthy person should
Huh. About 20 years ago my pops and his old record label made a documentary about Disco Donnie called 'Rise - The Story of Rave Outlaw Disco Donnie'. They actually screened it in what used to be called The Insomniac Tent (now the Gobi) at Coachella in 2002.
I loved the campervan, I would have done it again this year but we got the super cheap Embassy Suites deal instead.
any recommendations for how to go about looking for vans? i'd be flying out alone this time if i can make it happen and would prefer to not drag all of my camping supplies if possible.

This. You have to make sure you have the right size bag for the job. EZUP, tent, two sleeping bags all got in ours.

I did Escape Campervan. They mostly had full sized vans, which if you’re going solo might be more than you need. There was another company that rented converted minivans that I assume would be a little cheaper, I saw a lot of them on the grounds but can’t remember the company name.

It can kind of turn into a game of chicken. Last year the W2 prices really fell on Friday and Saturday of W1, I can't say for sure but I think some were under $200 before fees. Then they spiked after Sunday Service was announced. They eventually fell again Thursday afternoon and more Friday morning, but I think the bottom was Saturday of W1. If Sunday Service hadn't been announced, tickets might have really gotten low.

you just greatly improved my Coachella quality of life
For those not looking to camp, there are still plenty of “book now/pay later” options on Booking for Palm Springs. The more you guys talked about battling the sun with fans and EZ-UP’s, the more just spend the extra money made sense to me.

Sunday service was announced weeks before W2 not the Saturday of W1 last year (3/31/19). W2 also has a softer market than W1 on secondary market regardless of the year. Unless someone outrageous is playing (daft punk, Jesus, etc.) week of and Friday if W2 will have tickets around 10-20% less than face. W1 also sees decreases in secondary market the week leading up and Friday of. Depending on line up there are values to be had. I picked up a GA pass friday of W1 in 2015 for $175.
People with no intention of going think they can make money on the pre-sale and have to dump tickets the closer the event gets as their asks aren’t meet on secondary market.
