To be fair, the same argument is used almost every year. That being, "Coahcella isn't moving away from rock, there's just not many rock acts to choose from." I mean, how many years can that really be the case? Other fests like Shaky Knees don't seem to have a hard time getting a majority of rock acts. I think it's pretty obvious GV is gradually moving away from rock, although maybe not to the extent that many believe (RATM for example this year.) But the ratio between rock and pop/hip-hop is certainly getting wider each year, both on the top lines and under card.
Most of the Shaky Knees rock artists are verging on washed up. I like Liam Gallagher, but seeing dudes like him limp through sets of mediocre new music isn’t what most people are looking for from Coachella.
btw, does/can Liam play Oasis stuff at his solo shows?

He played several Oasis tracks when I saw him two years ago.

The reason I will probably never go to Shaky Knees is that they can't fill out the top of the lineup without these bands. Their midcard and undercard is always really good, but more often than not they have to book stuff I don't really care about at the top.
This is so much funnier if I take it out of context
I'll agree that the top lines can be hard to fill with newer big rock acts. But the the way rock music has died down in the mainstream, that's probably going to be the case with headliners/subs going forward anyway unless their legacy acts. There's still a lot of good lesser known rock, it's just people usually don't search them out unless they finally wind up on a festival poster. Gangs of Youth, Strand of Oaks, Wildernado, The Struts, Caamp, ect ect... all under card type stuff.
I still think Coachella will snag bands like The War on Drugs and The National when they're available so it's not like they'll completely go away from rock. Just a bit less overall.
Majority of Coachella's existence has been focusing on rock mostly and neglecting big pop/hiphop/r&b. So it's not so weird that it has flipped in recent years. Coachella flows with the times, the past and present could have used more balance. They missed tons of big non rock acts in the prime in the 2000s. Paramore is one band that I've always been shocked that they've never played. Live show is amazing and they have so much appeal to different demographics, their crowds are very diverse. Top 3 on their day.
Nicolas Jaar dropped a new track yesterday. Would love if one of his projects made its way to the fields.
I think Against All Logic would be really cool to have. I mean unless Darkside just pops up on the poster without warning. Theyll end up in the Mojave though.
Against All Logic (how did this show up on one cancelled fest lineup and literally nowhere else?)
Jaar fired everybody and moved to Torino. He’s off the grid. I was with him at club to club but it’s not likely that he does any festivals since he doesn’t have an agent, unless we reach out personally.
Hundred waters tried for Form but no luck. He’s probably waiting for President Trump to leave office.
I guess it was more of an assumption, but yeah I wouldn't expect him at Coachella next year.
