Anything that became available legally yesterday that I should know about? The lack of cheat sheet is hurting me this month with all the travel and such.
Regina Spektor is one of my favs, but this album seems rather uninspired compared to her earlier efforts. I really enjoyed "Begin To Hope" - it was a good blend of pop with her odd Regina Spektorishness - but "What We Saw From the Cheap Seats" and now this new album have both been steps down in quality. There's a lot of the same stuff that makes Regina who she is, and her lyrics are on point as usual, but overall it just feels a little less inspired. Something about it just feels a little formulaic, though I don't know enough about songwriting to say what it is. It doesn't break any new ground. I did notice on a second listen that there were a lot of lines that stuck out in my mind though, so after a few plays I'll probably like it a bit more.
That's what's been happening with the Bon Iver album, which is currently my AOTM. Still gotta check out Mick Jenkins and maybe a couple others though.

I'm super excited to give this a proper listen. I started last night but unfortunately was pulled away from it a few minutes in. I had liked what I had heard so far though.

Is there a way to listen to it track by track? I've started it a few times and would like to hear the end! Dave Maynar

Not that I am aware of. I had to listen to it this morning before most people got in the office. The end got interrupted by people some just because I couldn't pause. I was going to look for a download tomorrow after I hopefully tomorrow after I get the home computer up and running again.

Okay so I'm in the process of narrowing down my Sept list to start creating my monthly top ten. Currently, my reduced list is down to Angel Olsen, Warpaint, Wilco, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Psychic Twin, AlunaGeorge, Die Antwoord (it's really, really bad at times but I still find myself playing it), Skylar Grey, GriZ (same explanation as Die Antwoord),Ex-Cult, Flyying Colours, Boxed In, Merchandise, and Flock of Dimes.
This week I'm looking forward to Regina Spektor, Bon Iver, Jenny Hval, S U R V I V E, Danny Brown, and Pixies. Also Nicolas Jaar. And John Prine.

It's my understanding that Nico's Sirens is organized like this:
00:00-11:15 - Killing Time 11:15-16:42 - Wildflowers 16:42-23:32 - The Governor 23:32-27:00 - Leaves 27:00-33:34 - No 33:34-43:26 - Three Sides of Nazareth 43:26-47:13 - History Lesson
I've found a couple versions that are either all continuous or are missing Wildflowers, etc. Might just have to wait until Friday.

I love Regina Spektor's new album. I was hesitant after the first listen but it really grows on you over time. I should probably note that I loved her last one, too. It seemed to be hit or miss with her fans.

I second Preoccupations and add Klangstof to your need to listen to list. I think it's fantastic. It's my number 1 right now, but Preoccupations is close.

I'll give Preoccupations another try. Thanks for the Klangstof recommendation! It's pretty awesome.

I am in total accordance with you here. Regina's post Begin to Hope projects have disappointed me :/ I started listening to her and Joanna newsom around the same time, when I was in 8th or 9th grade. Both enamored me with the combination of their incredible voices with such quirkiness/unconventional choices in their music. Joanna has stayed true to this, and Regina hasn't so much in the past five years. It makes me sad. I still love her earlier albums so much. I don't know why she shifted to "safer" choices in her music but she definitely has.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
