Without seeing the actual map for the new location something tells me LCD would be too big for BC. Maybe I personally rate them too high. As much as I would love to see them there it feels like wishful thinking. Bon Iver makes sense to me though, especially since he curated Eaux Claires along with the guy from The National that have played BC twice. I'd be happy either way. More so with LCD obviously
I'm very confused by what the size of the artists at this festival will be, but here's my 2 cents
The Strokes - Childish Gambino - The XX Sigur Ros - The Shins - MGMT Miguel - The Head and the Heart - Young the Giant Local Natives - Modern Baseball - Bishop Briggs Shaggy - Kaiser Chiefs The Suffers - Strand of Oaks - Barns Courtney Quilt - Joseph Frances - 888 - Cobi
I wouldn't expect them to double the number of acts, but don't forget about the larger "touring act" side stage. Even if they don't run it on Friday night, I'll be very surprised if there are fewer than 30 musical acts this year (not counting stand-up and the film festival).
I think that a lot of you are overestimating the popularity of The xx, and I doubt they'll go for a main stage dance headliner after lower-than-usual ticket sales in 2016. Second line at best.
With the bigger space/more people/more bands, I'd say XX would either be 2nd or co-headline with Bon Iver or something (Crash line has the connection to him due to the other fest they do in WI). And just in general I'd like to think with the bigger space, they'll get more than 23 bands for 34k people right?
Yes. The sensible prediction is slight bump in headliner level and an increase in artists. I'd probably guess 40-50 but tough to predict with no info. I was hoping they'd do a 4-stage setup similar to Gov Ball (2 artists at a time) but it looks like they're only doing 3.
Also for the record, my two most confident predictions are Bon Iver and Chance. Kendrick is my ultimate hope for a #1. I'm probably setting my hopes a little too high, but a top 20 that looked something like this would make me very, very, very happy:
Kendrick Lamar | The Strokes | Bon Iver Chance the Rapper | The xx | Ryan Adams | MGMT Solange | Grace Potter | Young the Giant |GRiZ| Glass Animals Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats | Charli XCX | Action Bronson Cold War Kids | Mac Demarco | D.R.A.M. | Sylvan Esso | Margo Price
You'd hear no complaints from me about this lineup.

Planning on just stubhubbing fri/sat depending on lineup. I'm pretty sure secondary market prices have been lower than face every single day of this festival's existence

Just had to point out that The xx aren't a "dance" headliner. But I think you're right that people here are overestimating their popularity.

Why is that? The xx is headlining Primavera and the South American Lollapaloozas. Their own show in Boston would be at the Pavilion or Agganis Arena, minimum.

Pavilion, not Agganis. I could definitely be wrong, and I think they were asked for by a lot of people when BC asked who people wanted, but it just feels like they're a band that's not really talked about outside of indie rock circles. I know a lot of people who didn't realize Jamie xx was in a band before his solo stuff. Also, foreign fests don't matter.

Of course foreign fests matter. It's a sellers market. The xx's label as well as their booking agents won't accept anything less than to be considered as a big act. Same with Frank Ocean and Bon Iver, who are also playing Primavera and reportedly won't show up for less than top billing.
Plus, the hype is about to get real once that album drops.

Ride headlined Primavera in 2015 and played the Paradise later that year. PJ Harvey and The Last Shadow Puppets were billed 6th at Primavera this last year and are playing/played House of Blues. Artists are billed differently in different countries.

You're right about Primavera, but between the aforementioned LL's as well as The xx's prior shows in Boston, i don't see why them headlining BC would be a surprise. Don't forget, during the last tour cycle they played Boston three times, last of which was at the Pavilion. Surely they have more appeal since then, especially with the SNL performances and Jamie xx's solo career taking off.

the BOAP show was a co-headliner with Grizzly Bear though
I wouldn't be surprised if they played the Orpheum
Also as far as the xx debate goes, I feel like their SNL appearance really got them a lot of press so I would guess Agganis but would hope for the Orpheum.

Wrong on both counts. I'm confident to the point where I'd almost offer to buy you a ticket if they play Agganis. But being a poor college student means I can't be making those kinds of bets

Fair. I also totally wasn't thinking about the fact it'll be the summer when they're here so yeah more likely the pavilion, especially when the lumineers played there this year and they've had about 6x more US radio hits. They did play two nights but yeah you're right more likely pavilion. I still have a strong feeling we won't find out though because I'm sure they're a lock for BC.
