When I lived in Albany (NY) I could count on hearing Billy Joel at least once during my limited time fiddling with the car radio each day. There was a disproportionate amount of Billy Joel on the radio in Albany compared with other places I'd lived. (This was 2012-2014 so it's not like he was particularly popular at that point.) It was odd.
Now that I'm back in Buffalo I can count on hearing the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Green Day whenever I scan the dial. Again, not really "hot" these days.
Anybody encounter a similar artist that seems to be on the radio a lot more than they would be in other markets?

Not as much with the direct radio correlation, but every time they announce a "metal" show in Knoxville, it's that late 90s/early 00s butt rock like Hinder or Breaking Benjamin. The shows sell well too, so there's definitely a market here.
I've had more than one person around here have this reaction when I say I don't like Nickelback. "WHAT'S wrong with Nickelback" And they mean say it sincerely.

Growing up in Bloomington IN it was all about John Mellencamp. all the stations, once an hour. I mean, I can get down on some little pink houses and all, but sheesh.

At least that makes sense geographically. Like, it would make sense if we had Goo Goo Dolls on the radio all the time here in Buffalo but I feel like the frequency that they play RHCP or Green Day is disproportionate to their current popularity.
