I feel like just because In Colour got the most votes ever, it doesn't mean it's one of the best albums we've ever voted on. It just means that we had one solid album last month. To Pimp a Butterfly would've been in the 20s easily if it had not been for Sufjan Stevens, and maybe vice versa
This is a bad opinion and you should feel bad about it.
If anything, June was so incredibly packed with great releases that In Colour garnering such a heavy share of the vote means a lot more. Either that, or the people voting just weren't listening to anything else. But June gave us the following:
Jamie xx Maribou State Damaged Bug Florence + the Machine Algiers Girlpool Goatsnake Leftfield Jenny Hval No Joy Glenn Astro DJ Metatron Everything Everything DJ Koze Czarface Hudson Mohawke High on Fire Vattnet Viskar Blawan Slum Village Four Tet Thundercat Bully Kacey Musgraves Leon Bridges Son Lux Desaparacidos Nicolas Jaar Vince Staples Miguel Refused Failure
I mean, you could make a Best of 2015 list and have the top 30 comprised entirely of albums from June and it would be a completely defensible position. It was a terrific month for releases.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
There were some solid songs on there that weren't already singles. Overall, pretty good to great album. Maybe an 8? I'd need a few more listens. I'm hoping that Frank Ocean and Deerhunter will be stronger (and that they actually release this month).

Love the album except the talking over past life.. Waiting for Deerhunter and Chemical Brothers... Listening to Dj Marky's debut album after 25 years. I'm still stuck on Alison Wonderlands Run Lp and Cold Ep.. To me the only Edm album to top Jamie XX.

I'm not sure how I missed this Alison Wonderland album, but this is REALLY good.

As much as I love In Colour, it's going to win the award for Inforoo's most overrated album of 2015
I saw more hyperbolic praise for HTPAB in the month following its release than I've seen for In Colour, I believe.
But yes I'm biased. I think In Colour>Butterfly.
Was going to say the same thing, saw way more over the top praise for HTPAB TPAB. Lots of people really like In Colour, but don't remember people claiming it AotY within the first day or two it came out (cough cough Son of a Beek).

As much as it pains me to say this, I agree with you. I compared it a while back to Kind of Blue, and how that's the one jazz album that even non-jazz fans know to be great, so it's been buried in hyperbole. Kind of Blue is an excellent album, of course, but it's so extolled by people who literally have no other touchstones within the genre to compare it to that it's actually probably a wee bit overrated, or at least overexposed. I feel like In Colour is having a similar moment, where people who really wouldn't ever be exposed to more nuanced electronic music are losing their goddamn minds over it. That's not to say it's not a great album (just as all except the most jaded jazz heads would agree that Kind of Blue is a marvel), but it is certainly getting an undue amount of recognition in that it has fans who normally wouldn't stray into the genre.
My gripe with In Colour comes from the album itself. SeeSaw is kind of a dud, I think it's a pretty boring track and the way the vocals are mixed is kind of obnoxious. Stranger in a Room sounds like an XX song more than a Jamie xx song. Also, I think the four tracks that he released as the preview (Gosh, Loud Places, Sleep Sound, and Girl) are the four best tracks on the album, maybe The Rest is Noise could squeeze in between them. I listened to the shit out of those four tracks for the three months leading up to the album, so when the full thing came out and I thought those were the best tracks I was pretty underwhelmed. Also, All Under One Roof Raving should be on the album.

You've been reading the Quietus, haven't you.
I have not, I wouldn't be surprised if other people share those seniments, though. It's still one of my favorite records of the year. I just felt like those tracks spoiled me, is all.

For what it's worth, TPAB is one of the most overrated albums I've ever listened to. It's great, but it seems like people wanted so desperately for it to be a brilliant statement defining the modern epoch that they more or less willed it to be so. Like people just wanted so bad for this to be a generational album that they refused to believe it could be anything less than this. See, also, the recent Pitchfork review of Tame Impala's new record, where it's clear that Ian Cohen truly wants this to be his Kid A.
Unfortunately, I completely agree with this. I very much wanted it to be the greatest release of the decade, but in the post-coital clarity that came after listening to it the first time I could very much see that it wasn't. It's good, and there are parts that probably go deeper than I've yet to grasp, but IMO it's still a notch below GKMC.
Edit: I wonder how many reviewers listen to this album now and are like "Eh, it probably doesn't deserve the review I gave it."
