It's funny how Atlanta music types react to Black Lips. It seems like they're either your favorite band, or the worst thing to happen to local music, ever.
No I don't, that being said, I haven't really dug into their music so idk a lot of it, but what I know I do not like. And yes, as someone who was raised partially in ATL, they are the worst thing to happen to the local music.

I suppose hate is too strong of a word. 'Don't like' would be more appropriate. I named my dog after the band and I have found that when I introduce him the association with the name is quite polarized (I too thought everyone loved Devo!). Most people who do not like Devo seem to just think of them as a novelty act. I am also around people much younger than I for much of my day - so there's that.
I'm okay to someone objecting to Labcabincalifornia, but if you don't like Bizarre Ride II you've got some serious screws loose. But alas, I have had to verbalize that to more than one person.
I feel like Horse The Band is the most interesting and most underrated band ever in the history of mankind. They go hard, way harder than any band or artist you've ever heard of. Their wikipedia tells tall tales that still do not really do them justice. They are the ultimate band and I am forever grateful to have seen them twice!

One of the funniest shows that I have ever been to was Horse the Band opening for Gwar. They were making fun of Gwar fans non-stop and people there were getting so butthurt. Eventually a few people threw some drinks and other sh*t at them and they were just like "hey, this must be what it feels like to be a Gwar fan...no thank you!" My wife still wears the Horse the Band Cutsman shirt that I bought her at that Gwar show pretty frequently. I don't understand what they have been doing for the last few years. It seems like they are just vacationing in random countries and playing shows whenever they feel like it. They need to stop fvcking around, make another album, and tour the US again. Also, Horse the Band played in my friend's mom's backyard in 2002 or 2003.
I'll be the guy referenced in the other thread who admits to loving Rush. Most of the '70s prog rock bands really. Yes, ELP, ELO, the whole lot. Prog and Power Metal too. Savatage, Dream Theater, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth. I acknowledge the cheese factor of some of them (primarily the Euro Power Metal bands) but love them anyway.

Oh god thats amazing, I would have loved to have been there. I saw them front row once in '08 with Heavy Heavy Low Low and some other bands, totally the loudest hottest show I've ever been to. Then in '09 I won a copy of Desperate Living and tickets to their show with The Chariot and Norma Jean (in Atlanta, so it was hometown shows for them)....oh my fock it was the most badass hardcore show I've ever been to.
But really though, this is the ONLY band I could ever just "fan out" and praise forever. I HAD TO buy one of the custom 200 page handmade photo album + 7 DVD Earth Tour bundle, which has to be the best merch item ever put out. I'm pretty sure that I would skip a whole day of Bonnaroo for a horse show.

nice. Sadly, I missed the last tour that came anywhere near here when they played in nola in 2008 because I had a f'n grad school night class that only met once a week and it had to be on that f'n night. huge regret. 10" pizza EP is the coolest piece of merch from them that I own:
