I guess I'm pointing out the eye for talent. That's why I'm pretty excited to see who he can get in terms of players who aren't under the radar like Fisher was. I was very skeptical about the hire originally. And I still will be until I see improvement on the field, but it's hard not to be incredibly encouraged.

I was talking about it with some people at work. Jones has done about as well as can be expected so far. He held onto or pulled in a couple good recruits for 2013, and his class for 2014 is shaping up to be better than anything Dooley produced. The players seem to be on his side, and I don't believe there have been any discipline issues over the summer so far which is new for UT. That being said, now comes the hard part of him actually winning games. Like I have stated previously, I will be satisfied with a bowl game this year. After that, the expectations start to rise.
everyone is optimistic when a new coach comes in. what will your expectations be after this season? do you expect to play for sec championships? you expect to leap over uga, fla and sc in your division?

I would counter that plenty of people were not optimistic when Dooley came in. Beyond that, plenty of people were down on Jones when he came in since one of UT's five victories last season was over Cincy, and they were taking that to mean Dooley > Jones. As I stated, from a recruiting perspective, he is already beating Dooley, so it's not like I am putting forth blind optimism just because it's a new coach.
Expectations after this season will be a little higher if they make it to a bowl game. I don't think it's realistic to go from a "we're happy to get a bowl game" season to a "they better win the SEC" season in one season. Look at what Dabo did. You ended 6-7 in 2010 and now Clemson is in the conversation on dark horse NC contenders. Things take time, and yes, eventually, I expect them to get back in the hunt for the SEC title. Who isn't going to look to that as a goal for their team?

We're just excited man. Tennessee has the top ranked recruiting class in the nation at this point and that would great for any fan of any team, ya know? We're not used to being this bad, but if you look at it, every program has gone through a down period at some point in the last 20 years.
And to answer your question, it wasn't long ago when they leapfrogged up, and it's very cyclical. If UT isn't in the hunt, as all three of those teams are now, in the three years, it won't be enough.

As much as he cites this as being a direct violation of a rule, we all know the NCAA won't do anything since Clowney has a seat on the hype train for this year. He has to do something worse (like dr*gs, heaven forbid!) before they are going to lose this cash cow.

haha.
"Everyone wants to play. There's no one that wants to not play. I said, have you looked at that pile of crap out there? Have you taken a look at that? So if you don't think you can play here, where do you think you can play? It's a pretty simple approach. And that's not a sales pitch. That's practical. You've seen it, right? Unfortunately, so have I."

As a Duke fan, I can sympathize. Boy, can I sympathize. Luckily the AD made a commitment to the program a few years ago and got Cutcliffe on board. They've made huge strides since, but its still, obviously, a work in progress. Its hard to build a consistent football program.

I don't know who everyone else likes. I just happen to know that your team sucks.
Were you this uppity when your team sucked?
No, he behaved similarly to the way he behaves regarding Clemson basketball.
Clemson set the mark for rivalry futility in 2011-2012: They have lost 56 straight games in Chapel Hill, they've never won one since the teams began playing in 1926 and there is not a single head-to-head streak of this nature that surpasses the Tarheel's complete and utter dominance of Clemson on the hardwood.

I haven't had that much experience with them sucking. 4 losing seasons since 87(the first season that I remember). Tennessee has 6 in that time. just saying.

I believe you're in the wrong thread.
Is this the "Sang acts like he's Vince Lombardi" thread? If so, I think I'm in the right place.

I am enjoying myself. this is the best we've been since the early 90's. but if you think I'm bad, consider yourself lucky that we don't have any obnoxious SC fans here. this is the best they have ever been and they are unbearable right now. or FSU fans that love to tell you about how great they use to be and how they're "back".

I follow sh*tty teams as well as any person you know, so I understand enjoying it while you can.
How have you not put it together that this is just payback for trolling of the other sports threads that you do? C'mon Sang, you're better than that.
Also, FSU is winning the ACC. I'm dusting off my Warrick Dunn jersey as we speak.

Half of those are Dooley, though. I had the Dooley era Eternal Sunshine-d out of my brain.

they're going to need Warrick Dunn to win it this year.

yea half of ours was after we fired our greatest coach for no reason in the early 90's, then one in 98 that got a coach fired and one in Dabo's first full season when we were 6-7 with a loss in bowl game. I've never had to endure a stretch like you're going through right now. I'm only making fun of it because of Dave.
