you ignored the part where I said the best players and the part about not getting them from those other states either. you've fallen behind and you may not get it back. but trust me, I hope you do get better, because SC being good is getting old.
Ignoring our current #1 2014 class in recruiting since it is partially skewed due to us having more commits, you do realize we are still 10th when you rank it by the average stars of the class, right? (Clemson is #6 currently in average in case you are curious.) Regardless of where we end up in the end, I think it will be an improvement over the slide we have been on in the last few years with us peaking at #10 in 2009 and sliding every year until we bottomed out at #21 in 2013.
Going back to the larger point about UT making a comeback, I think it comes back to finding the right staff at the right time which is something that, as a Clemson fan, you can appreciate. We have all the other pieces. We're in a legit conference. We make it on TV (even with our recent record). Facilities are good. Tradition is good. Fanbase is ridiculous. Attendance last year was 80k+ for every home game including Kentucky, which was at the end of the season after Dooley got fired. We just need to find someone that is going to put some W's up.
I think your current recruting class is just kids buying hope. what happens when you go 7-5 or worse? a lot of those kids go somewhere else. we'll see if you have the right coaches or not.

We have a couple that are going the legacy route. Two of the best players for the 2014 class are legacy players. Oddly, one of our QB recruits is coming here because of our engineering department. I think others are coming because of their chance of starting sooner. Regardless of the team's record, there are players getting individual glory, i.e. Antonio Richardson, Ja'Wuan James, AJ Johnson for example. Regardless of that, Jones has already done a better job of recruiting for 2014 than Dooley did for any of three years, so it's a step in the right direction at the very least.
Tennessee will be lucky to go 7-5. But not many of those recruits will leave. The coaches aren't recruiting on this season's success. No sale there at all really. UT will end up in the top five nationally in recruiting, and they've got handfuls of players from every SEC state who were sought after by the biggest school in said states. Things are changing on Rocky Top, but it'll take time.

I feel dirty for saying it, but I am so close to cheering for Clemson for one game.
No reason to feel dirty for that.
No, it's horrible to cheer for any non-SEC unless they are playing Notre Dame or USC. It's just to rdk is creeping up on being idiot enough to allow me to stomach it.
Edit: Basically, it is a competition for me in that I have to decide which one is worse: rdk being happy or sang running his mouth all year about how that one game proves the SEC sucks.

see this is my problem with SEC fans. you're supposed to hate the other teams in your conference. especially one in your division. why would you want them to win? for example i want FSU to look as bad as possible. that's our competition. I don't want them to succeed. also I would never gloat over their success. SEC success is really just from 3 dominant programs, Bama, LSU and Fla and Auburn also won a championship. everyone else is just riding the coattails.

If college football wasn't ranked on what is essentially a popularity contest, I would agree. You look a lot more impressive by beating teams that end up 10-2 than you do beating teams that end up 2-10. Once again, I don't have any illusions about our chances of beating 5 of our opponents this year, but if we at least keep it close, we will look a lot more impressive less sh*tty.
P.S. Another 4 star recruit today. He is a safety from TN.

but it's not like your team is even in the discussion. you have no chance. so why do you care if the other SEC teams are good? only because it gives you something to brag about. I'll never brag on another ACC team. if FSU wins a national championship I am going to be pissed off, not celebrate it.

Quack em. if we go 12-0 it doesn't matter what anyone else does.

Tell that to Boise St. and TCU.
haha I deleted that. I think we could actually be 12-0 and be left out, so I guess that's a bad example. if an SEC team and Ohio St are undefeated, 12-0 Clemson probably doesn't play for a championship. but that's an entirely different discussion.

Yeah especially since the quality of competition in their respective championship games will probably be a little skewed.
You don't actually think that's going to happen, do you sang_xcx?
As much as I sh*t talk Clemson, everyone and their mom thinks they have a shot at going 12-0. It isn't a guarantee, but it's certainly in the realm of possibility.

it's really hard to go undefeated. but there's actually a chance this year. we do have 3 really tough games but 2 of them are at home (UGA and FSU) and SC on the road. we should beat everyone else easily.
If we play well and manage to avoid making too many mistakes, this could be the year.
this is the first year I've ever said it before the season. I was saying it a couple years ago when we started 8-0. but we really do have a chance this year.

Yeah, that year I had little confidence in much of anything until they showed up again, and again, and again, I realized they finally had true potential to accomplish something.
ask the real UT how all those 4 and 5 stars have been working out for them lately.
We have a bunch of 3 stars too. It's funny that you mentioned that because the last two 5 stars we got were Brice Brown and Janzen Jackson, and both of those turned out f*cking horrible for the program.
He was talking about Todd Gurley, one of UGA's running backs, who he was trying to say was a 3 star and ended up being awesome in an effort to make me not be as excited about UT's recruiting class. Unfortunately, he was a 4 star according to Rivals. link
Hahah, now I get it. In all actuality, we probably need more two stars that Butch Jones can turn into number one overall picks in the NFL draft, (see Eric Fisher).

To be fair, Jones recruited him but only coached him his freshman year.
