Sprained MCL out 4-6. Going to change the offense big time, removing a deep threat like that. Not to mention that there where only 4 active receivers for Thursdays game, before Jones injury.
I am so excited/scared/anxious/pumped/depressed/nervous/angry about tomorrow's game. It could be the highest high or the lowest low in roughly 14 hours. This is the opening game. It is the first home game. It is the first game with our coach back after all that stupid bullshiit from last year.
The NFL is fickle. (Almost) Every team has their handful of years where they are legit Super Bowl contenders. It is because of the (slightly socialist) structure of the NFL where salary caps and inverted draft order allows for teams at the bottom to slowly work their way to the top. When your team gets to that point where it is a consistent contender, you know that you are cheering on borrowed time.
After Katrina, we hired Coach Payton and signed Brees and started our rise to the top and eventual Super Bowl in the 2009 season. In 2011, we played in one of the most exciting playoff games in the history of the NFL against the 49ers in San Francisco. We were seconds away from the NFC championship, at home, against a New York Giants team that we had already beaten that season, at home, by a score of 49-24 in Week 12. It could easily be argued that we would have been heavy favorites to make it to the Super Bowl again that year. We had won 9 straight games prior to that loss to San Francisco.
Then, the 2012 season was over before it started. I'm not going to defend Gregg Williams or the bounties. We deserved the majority of our penalties. But, as a fan, that doesn't change the fact that you know that your team has everything set up to be the first team to ever play a home game for the Super Bowl, and suddenly, you are set up for failure for an entire year.
I know, wahhh wahhh "Your team won a Super Bowl and went 13-3, 11-5, 13-3, and now they suck because you had a backup for the backup coach for 6 games and then your assistant coach for your coach for other 10 and your team goes to shit. I don't feel sorry for you"
You don't have to. I just want you to know where I'm coming from. In this one game tomorrow, against our most hated, hated rivals, we Saints fans may find out if we still have some gasoline in the tank. We may find out that nothing has changed and our time has passed.
If we lose, I just hope that it is an absolute perfect display of two unprecedented offenses that entertains even the most casual football fan. The worst thing that could happen tomorrow is that we get embarrassed, at home, against our hated enemy on the first week, and don't even give the rest of the nation of good show.
Also, to that Ravens fan complaining about how losing Jacoby Jones is going to devastate the Ravens offense...
When your offense hinges on the health of Jacoby Jones, your offense sucks regardless
I believe I said change, not devastate.
Its really not that complicated if you understand how schemes and game planning works. When you have two speedy deep threats on the outside, the opposing defense is forced to choose one to bring safety help on, leaving the other with more opportunities over the top. When you remove one of those guys (in this case, Jacoby Jones) they can bring extra help on Torrey Smith on every play if they want. Making it that much harder for him to get open down the field. Flacco has one of the best deep balls in the league, but if he doesn't get to use it, the offense changes big time. So its not a matter of how many catches and points would Jacoby get if he was on the field, its way more to it than that.

So the Titans and Jets are both 1-0 after week one. If you had been asked to put odds on this yesterday, what would you have said? I would have just laughed.

Also, you skipped over 2010.
I mentioned 11-5. We, as in the team I play for, the New Orleans Saints, were 11-5 in 2010.
That was one hell of a 7-9 team. To make it that far in the post season, only three wins away! 8-10 is much better than 11-6.
But seriously, that was a hell of a game and play for Lynch. Seattle is hitting their peak. Enjoy the next 3 to 5 seasons while they last. I know we, my teammates and I, may only have a few left.
