I don't think anyone was saying this is the best festival lineup this summer or that it puts it in competition with other big ones. But for a small festival in NYC this is a pretty awesome lineup IMO.
And clearly you aren't a rapist (I hope) but the way you pop into any thread where a woman happens to be lamenting her lack of ride to Bonnaroo and tell them to come hop on your bus sounds extremely rapey.

Yeah, let's keep in mind that the headliners last year were Beck & Passion Pit and the pre-headliners were Modest Mouse and Duck Sauce.
They now went to Kanye/KOL/Mystery Band with a really solid Tier 2.
Personally, my excitement is about where this festival is going in the future more than what it will be this year. Yes, I'm pumped for the lineup, but the fact they're not nickel and dime-ing while trying to make it into the next level of music festival is encouraging.
Oh, I have zero problems with this lineup. I just don't get why people are losing their minds. It's a nice fest, full of bands that we'll all likely be sick of by the end of festival announcement season. I might try and make it, and if they end up doing single day tickets then I'll definitely do at least one day.
The big reason I'm excited is that the Northeast rarely gets a festival THIS solid. Mountain Jam and GOTV are both Jam oriented, and Camp Bisco is almost all oontz. I'm not going to include Newport or Solid Sound because those are completely different animals.
It'll just be nice to not drive for 17hrs for once to see a quality lineup with many different genres represented.

I'm freaking out because its Death From Above 1979 first show announced this year and it's a week before Roo. They played every other big fest except Roo last go around so maybe this is kind of exclusive. Also loaded undercard means good things for every other fest this year.

NYC hasn't had a fest like this since All Points West packed it in... And if you ask me GBall is run better then APW ever was.. Really glad to see their continued expansion.. Hard to believe this is the same scarcely attended fest with Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, and Big Boi just two years ago
5/11/13: Sweetlife Festival
5/16/13: The Flaming Lips
5/20/13: Fitz and the Tantrums
6/7-6/9: Governors Ball
6/13-6/16: Bonnaroo
6/21-23: Firefly (???)
7/11-13 Camp Bisco
8/31-9/1: Made In America
9/27-29 Tomorrowworld (???)

I really wish I had the money and vacation time to go to this. That red section, for me, is absolutely stacked with a bunch of great acts! I hope some of them are headed 'roo's way.
Can this just be the Bonnaroo lineup? You can add in Sir Paul and Bjork and get rid of Kanye and KoL. Its a fantastic lineup for my tastes: Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Kendrick Lamar, the xx, Beach House, and on and on and on.. I personally think its a great sign that these bands are performing the week before Bonnaroo because I think it gives us a shot at getting a lot of them
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I still call it All Points Wet. I never thought Governers Ball would get this much traction, but clearly they are seeing that a lot of metro area people would like to attend a close festival too.

The comments on the lineup announcement look pretty positive all in all, Kev.
This was interesting:
LeBrun James @neill Otani this isn't the three day setup, the groups are the headliners/sub-headliners, the midday acts, and the "opening" acts. Just like they had a "funky" day and a "rock" day last year, they'll probably divide them up by genre. I'd put my money on a hip-hop/electro day, an indie day, and a louder rock day
I didn't go last year, were they split up by style? Might help speculate on the third headliner.

People are shizting on this lineup on the facebook page. I don't get it but apparently this is "the worst lineup ever"
I assume that grey box is a 3rd headliner?
Reading those comments, at least half of the people who aren't happy with the lineup are idiots and think the way it's broken up on the poster are the days those people are playing.

Haha I actually didn't go to APW the year it rained.. Got stuck working =\. Regret it to this day... I went the first year when Radiohead played two nights and that was pretty great.. I was sad to see that fest go.... But Gball is much better run.

I had the reverse happen, had to work the Radiohead year. Ya the management for APW wasn't great.. The second day it was so muddy that they delayed everything without announcing it - there were hundreds outside the gates for maybe 3 hours?

I think people are so excited about this lineup because it's about time the NYC area gets a legit fest. If there was a fest announced in Alaska with just 2 of the bands in the red headlining people up there would go nuts. Anywho I'm crossing my fingers for Pearl jam to be the add. Although I don't see them getting billed under kol. It's proble Mumford or yeah yeah yeahs. And as for the conflict worries I bet there will be a bunch of club after shows like lolla.
P.S. to anyone going to this that hasn't been to a fest as Randall's don't forget the bandanas and face masks. If gets really dusty there. I used to go there for warped tours and leave looking like an extra in mad max and that was only a one day event.

I think this is the most consistent lineup I've ever seen. Other than some obscure bands towards the end of the lineup I've never heard of, there's really nobody here I wouldn't want to see. Yes, it lacks the "wow" factor and there's nobody that I'm incredibly over the top excited for, but it has so much that I am looking forward to. I don't know about ya'll but that's exactly what I want in a festival lineup.

totally agree with you on the consistency thing.
also, i think this is the conflict free type festival so that will make this even better - ive been to a few festivals out on randalls island (catapla, the reschedule dmb caravan, amongst others) and usually am happy with how they play out.
plus i love walking that footbridge, and this gives me the excuse

Yikes, glad I missed out on that haha... Having a fest with the NYC skyline and the statue of liberty right there was pretty cool.. One thing I hate about Randalls Island is it isn't very scenic. I preferred when the fest was at Governor's Island. But regardless I live so close to the city this fest is a no brainer for me.

I'll likely hit it up if I don't go to Bonnaroo. And if I go to Bonnaroo and can afford it, I'll do both. I have a free place to stay in New York, so it's just a matter of paying for the ticket, train ticket, and food. Which shouldn't be too much. Going to try to wing it.
Then again, I imagine it'll sell out quickly considering the area it's in (NYC + all the metropolises around it) and the very strong lineup.

I honestly liked last years lineup more and that's not saying this doesn't have quality acts but it's nice having a festival like this close to new england. Hopefully it doesn't fold up the way apw did.
Flame me all you want, but Kanye and KoL are two of my top picks for any fest. Throw in that stacked undercard...just wow. I really would love to this one, but its in that small window between Hangout and Roo. My body can't handle that much abuse.
FYI, if you didn't enjoy that KoL set at Roo 2010, I feel sorry for you. That set made me a fan of theirs.

Although I hate going to NYC, and the fact it is in NYC restrains me from jumping 100% into this - knowing I will most likely be skipping Roo.

I have been working the last days and haven't been able to chime in on this. Like what Jugs said, this is really a solid bill and a who's who that will be touring. If there is a wow factor, it is how Governor's Ball is stepping up their game and becoming a legit fest compared to when it first started.
