I think these lists are pretty independent of each other.
i mean in general. any time people do best of lists there is the idea that some albums HAVE to be put on the list and everyone puts them on their lists just because everyone else does. i was replying directly to the comment itm made. he was pretty much asking people do that, instead of listing their personal favorites.
No, actually I just wanted people to have the same kind of mentality when making the lists. Like, I didn't want one person making a "Best of" list and another making a "Only my top favorites, not anyone else's". Thought it would be harder to compare. I said I didn't care which way they went but that I prefer if the people making the list have the same sort of criteria when making them. I have been an advocate of making a bunch of lists/threads in the off season. I wasn't trying to tell them "This list should be just like this" as you're making it seem like.
If you read my post after that I thought I made it clear that personal preference should play a role but that I just didn't want two wildly different kinds of lists.

Oh yea, I agree that it's more interesting if people put what they actually listen to the most.

i just approach the list making differently. for me it's always my favorites, what i listen to and enjoy the most. i don't make typical best of lists.

But, I'm also not into lists that have more than one release by an artist. Pick the best and give someone else a shot.
i don't agree with this. for example i enjoy pretty much every radiohead album more than any album by any other band. their "worst" is better than most people's best. same is true of outkast for hip hop.
I wanted to put Lauryn Hill's "Miseducation" on this list so badly but decided, as well as Erykah's "Mama's Gun" that there's too much R&B to compete with.

so i was in the process of listening to all of the roots albums on spotify. but for some reason they don't have rising down. demonoid is gone so my way of stealing music is gone and i can't find it. someone help me out.
For the record, my list was 100% independent from these other lists. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to cheat and check GL's and Bandeto's lists (which are fantastic), but that would've been ingenuous. And like awatd said, making these lists without personal tastes are pointless. Aka DMX in my top 30.
I could make hip hop lists the entire offseason. I've been ripping through my hip hop catalog and reacquainted myself with so much great hip hop. I'm no longer angry about the current state of hip hop, even though most current hip hop is pop-driven dribble, because these albums aren't going anywhere.
If/when I have a son, it's inevitable that he becomes a fan of hip hop (suburban white kid wannabe-rappers heyooo), so it's just on me that my son like Meth Tical and Ghostface instead of Waka Flocka and Weezy.
and to flanzo's point about copying -- it's one thing to review a list and take a name here and there but once most important is some critical evaluation. For instance, I might have forgotten all the offshoots of DOOM (i.e. Gheedorah) if I hadn't noticed Viktor Vaughn. BUT when I saw each artist, (i.e. Nas) went back through all the records he had to decide 'Street's Disciple' over 'Stillmatic'; or one Roots album over another (which is incredibly difficult).
In the end I think there are probably a few inevitable overlaps that have to occur or we were all raised on different planets

And I'm a HUGE People Under the Stairs fan (I had to hold back from adding Stepfather or Carried Away to the list but I was thinking of nixing 'Game Theory' for one of those two)

I think it just implies you need to listen to different bands/albums rather than just sticking with the ones you're comfortable with.
Yeah but this list is subjective so therefore the subject thinks differently. Let's be real here trying to act like Kanye didn't put out 4 albums that could very easily be in the top 30 of this time frame is just lying to yourself.

then you have third tier : snoop, dre, J z...they get 100 k
then you have 4th tier : black keys, munford byoncee, Prince etcc: they get 50k

Was hoping to get my list up today but work is stifling. I spent a lot of time listening to hip-hop this weekend; moreso than usual. My girlfriend was not happy. I didn't even bother to explain why I was bombing through hip-hop albums like it was my job; somehow I doubt she would understand why I needed to listen to every hip-hop album of interest from the past 15 years in order to concoct my own "best of" list in order to impress a bunch of anonymous music obsessive weirdos on the internet. In fact, she'd probably ask me to just pack my sh*t.
