So I heard some rumors today that a contract was just signed for a major music festival at the Nashville raceway and fairgrounds. 7 stages 125 bands. Aug 3-5 (same weekend as Lolla). I dont even know the genre of the festival or any other details. Anyone heard anything about this?

I just dont see this happening this year. No way they announce a festival of that scale with 1 month to go and are able to book enough talent.
Im thinking the rumors im hearing are for next year.
And also, that fair grounds/racetrack is an absolute dump and in a horrible part of town. the only type of festival i could see here would be an EDM fest.
Could they mean the race track between Murfreesboro and Lebanon? It is just sitting empty after beeing shut down last years. The complex has 1400 acres.
It will be interesting to see. I just can't see a huge festival at the old fair grounds. The neighborhood that surounds the place always complains about the noise from the racing.
The first weekend in August could be brutal for the weather. I almost hope it is a country music festival. The heat and dust would have me sick for the next month.

Country = no go Another TN festival would be sweet though. I wish we had more in Texas. ACL is cool and SXSW is just too expensive these days. I'd definitely go if they had good lineup.

Not to hijack, but a quick response. Check out Fun Fun Fun Fest if you haven't before, and Houston's Summer Fest had a really fun lineup this year. And SXSW can be done very cheaply if you RSVP in advance for shows. Probably 95% of the shows can be attended for free. Texas is doing its best!
Believe it when I see it. Mayor Dean is hell bent on padlocking the fairgrounds and his goons are going to throw up barriers to any event that wants to keep it going as a profitable venture. Also, we've had two festivals fail in the Nashville area in the last 5 years (Head Jamz and Mucklewain).

Thanks Yo So JBoy...I guess I need to look into the free ways to do SXSW. I used to go every year when I was in college but I guess haven't been too up on my planning or looking for cheaper ways to go since then, I just assumed the prices online were the only option. I went to FFFFest in 2010 and that was pretty cool and I had no idea about Houston's Summer Fest, that IS a pretty sweet lineup. I think maybe I just like the camping festivals better and wish we had one! That's one of the things I love about Roo...no driving, no messing with traffic to get to shows, your "home" is right there along with everyone else's...just a different vibe than other festivals I've gone to.

I love that crappy venue + crappy part of town = EDM.
I would be shocked if this ever got off the ground. The location is not where I could see something like this go. In addition, I am not sure they can get rid of the race track after the referendum.

That track on 840 would be perfect for a festival. It's big, it's out in the country and I live 10 minutes from there.
