How much stock are we putting in the blurred artist/band being third? Got really excited at the thought of Eminem being the third headliner. He's obviously bigger than KoL, but Hangout has lacked hip-hop, maybe they would put him third?
I posted this link before, but it's Paul of Shady Records talking about Eminem in 2013. No official album announcement "yet" (after Memorial Day, but Eminem will probably have 2 new singles out by HMF) US dates in 2013 "in the works"
He sucked at Roo...and he does not fit the beach vibe. No thanks. And this is coming from an Eminem fan.
That's disappointing. I saw him way back in the day, Eminem Show era, thought he was pretty good for live rap - not Outkast/Snoop/Kanye but better than some.
The Home and Home shows with Jay-Z got good reviews, I was hopeful he might have gotten better as a performer with more experience and age.

Maybe I was spoiled by Jay-Z's set the year before...ok I was definitely spoiled by Jay-Z's set the year before...but Em didn't hold a CANDLE to that performance. Sucks too, because I was really looking forward to his show.

What happened to the Avett Brothers?
Muse might still be possible. Janes Addiction, too. I don't know what either of them really adds to this lineup, but that might not matter if they're desperate. Same thing goes for the available jam bands.
What about Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, or QOTSA as a soft Friday headliner?
I have faith that we'll have a pretty big name for Friday. Maybe Muse can play on Friday. Gives them an extra day to get to Europe.
Anybody have any idea as far as undercard acts that could come up?
And isn't there supposed to be a comedy stage?
The RHCP announcement made no sense last year. Their dates were already out, the band didn't announce any new release, Hangout just goes "oh yeah, we've got RHCP too." Could just be a move to get another round of press and there's no negotiations or scrambling going on.
I'll bet Avetts are an addition we get later. They just make too much sense.
thought I heard that HO had to wait for Bonnaroo to announce RHCP first?
So maybe the third headliner is a Bonnaroo cross-over?
If so, Mumford is still a strong possibility. Anyone who saw them at WhichStage in 2011 knows they had ALREADY outgrown that stage. Roo loves an act going from Tent-Which-What (headlining)

Amen. Jay-Z was sooooo good. I'd never really been to many hip-hop shows before, but Jay set the bar so high that I knew it would be hard for Eminem to compare. I was really let down considering Eminem was our #1 headliner in 2011. I still can't believe the stage set-up was just old music videos playing on a screen with Em and Royce da 5'9" taking turns rapping over backing tracks. I grew up listening to Em during the whole FCC and "Parents Against Violent Lyrics" so I guess I just expected more.
I still believe it will be Mumford. Definitely have to wait for the Bonnaroo lineup drop on Tuesday. Then we'll be able to fill in a couple blanks (hopefully more than a couple additions)

To be fair, you can't really compare Hangout's lineup to Roo or Coachella or Lolla. The big 3 have more money and go for the best across different genres. Hangout seems like it has its own niche. I think the lineup is great for what it is, it has several bands that would be a blast to see on the beach. That being said, I do think so far it is a minor step back from last year.
I think Petty would be fun, and maybe I'm the only one but I don't have a problem with KOL being there. I liked their first 3 albums, then they got a little too U2ish. I hope they land Phoenix, YYY's or some other big indie band as the third headliner. That seems to be what they are lacking right now. I'd like to think that after all the bands already listed, they still have enough in the bank to land a top tier headliner.
After getting over the lack of excitement in the headliners (Tom Petty is great live, loved him at Jazzfest, but I'm still not a huge fan), the undercard has quite a few acts I'd like to catch:
TAB Bassnectar Kendrick Lamar The Roots Steve Aoki Passion Pit Ellie Goulding Bloc Party Mule Jim James Porter Robinson Public Enemy moe. Galactic Toots The Breeders Isbell Anders
My problem is my attendance at the fest will be spotty at best, due to work and the Dalai Lama. I have a presale ticket, but I'm going to have to wait and see the schedule to decide if I'm going to sell it or not. So the waiting game begins again for me.
I'll bet Avetts are an addition we get later. They just make too much sense.

Black Keys would fit that role too.
Hangout announced RHCP 2/8/12. Tickets went on sale 2/10/12.

Yup.
After the awesome JayZ show the previous year, and his stage setup, Em's giant music video screen felt like a let down.
Take away the music vids and put him on JayZ's stage from '10 and it would have been a lot better.

Eh, Tom Petty is also playing Bonnaroo, and he's there, so I wouldn't put too much stock in things like that.
You dont think 'Roo gets Sir Paul?
Why they gotta share Petty? Didnt he just play there a few years back?
Bonnaroo got both McCartney and Petty. I don't know why you would think they'd be mutually exclusive.
Petty hasn't played Bonnaroo in 7 years - I think a repeat is alright at this point.
Seven years ago, TPATH were on their 30th anniversary tour with Stevie Nicks, Tom had a new album coming that July, and Peter Bogdonavich was filming shows. This time, the most recent album will be three years old. Full Moon Fever is one year away from a big anniversary. Even I'm kind of surprised Bonnaroo wants Tom Petty back this year.
I think people need to listen to some old KOL and give them a chance. Youth and Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times are solid albums. I understand that they went on a slide of late but they are good in concert. I think so far Tom Petty > RHCP, KOL>DMB and I think whomever the third slot is will be better than Jack White. Plus an undercard with many talented bands makes this a good time in my opinion.
