I was debating about going again this year, it's a bit of a hassel for me logistically but just reading the last few pages of this thread has changed my mind. The only thing that might suck a bit is how fast weekend one sells out, I'm pretty committed to Wannee as well so W2 just won't work this year.

I have gone to Bonnaroo the past three years, and have had a blast each year but...
This upcoming year most of my Roo group will not be going, due to school/work so I was thinking this would be a good year to try another festival. I am most interested in Coachella. Im not too crazy about going to a festival in a city (Lolla, ACL) and going out of the country is too expensive for my budget. I have heard nothing but great things about Coach but I was wondering more details about it. What are the crowds like? How easy is it to get to the Polo Fields from the airport? Any information to help me make a choice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Crowds are hit or miss depending on the show but by nightfall it's really moving. I've always found it easy to make friends out there. You can either fly into LAX or Ontario. LAX is a little over 2 hours to Indio. Typically you can find cheaper flights into LA than Ontario. Ontario is really only around 45 minutes closer. You can rent a car and I do believe there are shuttles as well. Really simple to get out there though. Camping is easy, the lineups are great, and the festival itself is super clean. Also really kick ass sound, art, and production.

I should have flown into San Diego to change it up. Never realized it was so close. Oh well.
edit: My pre-fest visits to Venice Beach and their "shops" have become tradition for me. I had considered flying into Vegas last year but chose not to for this very reason.

I actually think I'm gonna fly out of San Diego now CKS. You've intrigued me with the idea, never been. My flight home would be around 4:30 Monday so I'd have a few hours to kill. Anything I should do or check out?
Considered that. How long would that take me to go through?
How is Sunset Cliffs? Need more beach in my life.
To go through the whole thing would definitely take you all day, but you could cover about half of it in 3-4 hours. That works out though, because about half of it is new and offers superior animal viewing. The zoo is also very close to the airport.
Sunset Cliffs is beautiful, but no real sandy beach area to speak of. It's more a place you go to sit on the cliffs and zone out at the view, and watch wook types dive off the cliffs. It's pretty close to the airport also, so that is nice.
Ocean Beach is just north of Sunset Cliffs (you can actually see the pier in the picture above), it's the hippie area of San Diego. EAP liked it a lot when she visited
If you want a touristish/theme park/beach experience, there is the boardwalk that spans between Mission Beach (Belmont Park) and Pacific Beach (Crystal Pier) that makes for a nice walk.
If you want to experience both animals and beach at the same time, and have a more secluded beach experience, there is La Jolla Cove (there are seals and sea lions here!).
If you want a more scenic nature-y experience there is Torrey Pines state park. You can go for some pretty and short hikes in the park above the beach, or park down below and enjoy the sand and solitude. www.tropicalsnorkeling.com/images/CLJCL11.jpg
Blacks Beach is arguably the most beautiful beach in San Diego, but it's hard to find and there are people who look like your high school principal walking around naked. For real, fully naked. It's just south of Torrey Pines and there is a glider port on the cliffs above it, so if you like watching people fly above your head (and don't mind naked people) it might be for you. Oh and there are no bathrooms. tourguidetim.com/blog/2011/visiting-secluded-blacks-beach-in-san-diego/
