I need to give this a go. My wife is Orthodox Catholic, where the entire sermon is done in a muslim/english chant with eruptions of singing. I love going just for the music. It reminds of the Liars.
It's tame music—"eruptions" is not a word that comes to mind. It's stately and reserved. But it is lovely for what it is.
That's very interesting to hear about your wife's church. I myself, as some around here already know, am an Orthodox Christian priest, so I'm sure there are a lot of liturgical similarities, although what you've described about their style of worship leaves me puzzled. Can you send me a link to something, or at least a link to her church's website?
Wow, I wasn't aware of you being an Orthodox Priest. I've only been to her Church a handful of times...for Easter (which is a different day than commonly celebrated Easter), events (which serve beer and wine), and a few times when we were going to get married there (it didn't work out. They wanted our wedding party to be members of the church). Here is a video I found of the church. There is a heavy Middle Eastern presence there (her family is Lebanese). I love the chanting style delivery of the priest. How is it different from yours?

Very, very similar. In fact, I am a priest of the same Antiochian Archdiocese, although recently my Antiochian church merged with a local Greek Orthodox church. The new church is under the Greek Archdiocese, but 1) things like Greek or Antiochian or Russian are just cultural differences, and 2) our parish has people from all types of Orthodox cultures, especially American "converts" like me. We use the same liturgy of worship and all those elements, including the Byzantine chant for music, but it's all got a much less "ethnic" flavor to it since so many of us are converts.
Since my church is brand new—like, less than 2 months old—I don't have a website to share, but here's our Facebook page for what it's worth. At the very least you can see pictures of me (Fr. Stephen, as I'm known pretty much everywhere other than Inforoo) doing my priestly thing.
Oh, also my brother and his family live outside of Atlanta (Cumming), and attend a Russian Orthodox Church in the area.

And now for something completely different...
My friend, a musician in Philly, is friends with Birdie Busch. I know a lot of people (myself included) throw out these nobody bands that their cousin's girlfriend's estate lawyer plays in, but this one really amazed me. Listen to the whole thing at her BandCamp. At the very least, listen to this one track, "Part of Apart".

I'm not at all religious, but I think the whole thing is a hoot. For me, the Middle Eastern is part of what makes her church so fun. I like hearing the Arabic and I love eating all of the lamb, kabobs, and kibbeh. The Liars music is the best part, though. BTW, you look pretty snazzy in those pics.
