The last.fm thread made me think that are a few people on here that love data who would appreciate a couple app recommendations: Sleep Cycle and Life Cycle. Many people are familiar with sleep data apps, and I've really come to appreciate it, because the metrics it provides are useful. For example, I've found I sleep significantly better when I take more than 7,000 steps in a day, so it encourages me to walk around a bit more. You can also plug in your own variables to track to see how they affect your sleep length and quality. I there's a free version and a subscription version, which is ten bucks a year. I found the premium version worth it.
The same company also makes and app called Life Cycle. This one is neat because it uses nearby cell towers to track your location, so you can see how much time you spend in certain places. Yesterday I spent about five hours at work, a little less than seven hours at home (while awake), five and a half hours at my girlfriends, and spent about 40 minutes driving (eight of which were my work commute). It gives you averages for how long you spend doing a certain activity (the average grocery shopping trip takes me 35 minutes), and it displays some figures for how those places/activities affect your sleep since it integrates with Sleep Cycle too. This app also comes in free and premium versions (also $10 a year, though you get half off if you paid for Sleep Cycle premium).
I find stuff like this incredibly interesting, and I'm just waiting for the day when I can get a biometric chip implanted me that'll track my blood sugar and hormone levels and all sorts of other neat metrics. But until then, I'll just use my phone. Might need to get a Fitbit soon too.

My brother graduated college in December. He has been applying like crazy since then, and had his first interview last week, as the main GIS technician for a nearby county. Nice government position, paid holidays, pension, etc. He stopped by my job after the interview to say hi, and dude was wearing dress pants with a polo and sneakers. I didn't say anything about it, but in my head I said " Oh, honey" and made a mental note to get him a nice shirt and a pair of dress shoes. I've always considered those the be the minimum basics for a job interview.
Or so I thought.
Not only did he get the job, but he counter-offered their initial offer this morning and they replied back giving him more than he even asked for! I'm so incredibly proud of him. Two months out of college and he's already got a decent job in his field. While wearing sneakers and a polo to the interview. I'm very happy for him, but inside a part of me is just like...this motherfucker.
I gotta get me a polo.

Speaking of punchable faces, who has the more punchable face: Ted Cruz or Mitch McConnel?
I vote Cruz, partly because McConnell looks like he already got punched, a lot. Cruz has one of those faces that just begs to be punched. You might even get away with that defense in court, or police officers might decline to arrest you if they simply look at him.
Just got back from Datsik and it was a blast! In our tiny Blue Note in CoMo they crammed all the PK subs and the stage setup in...about brought that old building down. If you just wanna go out and have a wild time it's a good way to do it.

Hate to get all /r/personalfinance on you, but I hope y'all are able to sit down and have a conversation about this. Money can really screw up a relationship. For the record, I'm on team Jaz in this situation. I've learned I have a lot more fun doing fun stuff when it's already paid for, not waiting on a credit card bill somewhere.
We've talked about it at various times, and for the most part we're usually on the same page in a lot of ways. It's very rare that either of us put things on credit cards and we each generally have our finances in order, and I don't look down on her when she spends on things that would be frivolous in my eyes and she doesn't think I'm cheap when I don't feel like spending on things. So we're good most of the time. I enjoy fancy dinners from time to time and she knows how to save when she needs to. Maybe I'm being too nice, but we both made assumptions in this instance.
Team Jaz for the win. I mean, y'all all know before the house buying/ticketmaster boycotting that I am a ticket buying fool. But I am also crazy strict on my budget (even more-so now) and sometimes you have to wait to buy, especially because I stress over money even when I have it. I think that y'all need a sit-down/cookout/whatever it takes to get on the same page. Communication is the key, along with compromise. I will say this though, I think it is CRAZY that she booked the V-day BS and then wants to go halfies without even discussing it. Like who does that? If I were to do that, thejeremy would shoot me. Making plans is great, but assuming is not.
Agreed that communication is key. In her eyes we usually split when we go out (personally I wouldn't say "usually", but I try to pick my battles haha), so she didn't think this would be any different. She just wanted to make the reservations first because it's during Restaurant Week in Philly and near Valentine's day. But yea, if she had said from the jump that we'd be splitting it there'd have been no resistance on my part because it sounds like a nice romantic evening. But since we've fought about it she said that it feels tainted to her now so she doesn't really wanna go. Not in a spiteful way, but she doesn't feel like she'd enjoy it as much. So it's kinda a moot point now.
I also want to disclaim that this was during day 15 of 18 straight work days for me and last week was a nearly 80-hour week, and she just moved into a new place so she was dealing with that stress plus PMS. So our tolerances and communicative skills aren't what they usually are.

So how was the V-Day dinner? It looked lovely.
Aw man, it was wonderful. We got fancy: bruschetta with fresh mozz on a baguette for appetizer, main course was homemade braciole with roasted potatoes and broccoli, and we did strawberries dipped in chocolate for dessert. And we had been saving this holiday spiced wine that we got at the Renaissance Faire a few months back, so we warmed that up too. It was great.
Edit: And any money I would have spent on a going to a restaurant now went towards me seeing Chance the Rapper soooo it all worked out in the end.

Good. Glad you guys were able to make the day great after the disagreement.

He's easily one of my favorite DJ's to see live.
he was in town last week and didn't catch him but seen him a bunch of times, always fun shit
We last caught him at Buku 2016 I think. I've seen him 3 or 4 times too. He's such a good producer and one that translates really live to fun, raucous and generally hard shows. Next crazy DJ show we have is the Never Say Die record label show featuring Trollphace, Skism and Trampa. That's going to be possibly one of the hardest dub shows I'll see all year. Not that many dj's are doing dub anymore with that style having peaked 4 or 5 years ago, but I'll usually try to catch a couple of those shows every year if it's producers or DJ's that I like (Trollphace, Barely Alive, etc..

Is it wrong that I strongly question whether I want to work for a company when the contact email they ask for resumes to be sent to is an AOL email?
That just tells me the person receiving the resumes is probably on the older side. I've met respectable people of a mature age who have AOL email accounts.

the guy who ran our firm's retreat last year had a Compuserve email address. This got me super excited for some reason. To me it meant he may be an older gentlemen but he is also an electronic mail OG.

We have a few clients that still use AOL (I can't talk I still have my yahoo account and got a happy 20 year email last year). BUT, none of them are computer savvy AND they can't open half of the emails that we send them. Oh and one is only a few years older than me, so there is that.

I've had the same Hotmail address for like 13 years.

I forgot all about hotmail...I think mom uses that. Shows how often I email her. I talk to her almost daily though.

I'm chaperoning my second grade daughter's school dance. I would implore anyone thinking about having kids to attend one of these before you take the plunge.
