I can usually understand why people like bands that I don't like (ie Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes) but this I really just think it's pure edge. It's like I could seriously make a Death Grips song tonight.
Alright bud, so go ahead and do it and report back?
but really... I mean they're pretty polarizing. A band like Arcade Fire isn't really comparable... Which albums have you listened to? The Money Store and Exmilitary are probably their most accessible. If you're legitimately interested in giving them a shot Here is a decent guide to all their releases.
At the end of the day they're just making 'hype music'. Look at in the same way you would Flaka or something. It's loud, abrasive, gritty, angry.
Also they're shows are pretty sick. I caught them at 'roo and loved it, even without Zach Hill.
The Money Store, some Exmilitary and No Love Deep Web.

I haven't heard Exmilitary. I think The Money Store was great, NLDW was decent, Government Plates was so-so, and N's on the Moon was one of the worst albums I've heard this year.

I'm not trying to sound rude. I read your past few comments on the matter but I'm quoting this one because it's the only one I have a definitive answer to.
Can someone please explain Death Grips to me and why people think they're good?
NO.
It either moves you or it doesn't. It's really OK either way. While I can hear some potential in your "This is me doing Death Grips" sound cloud file it has nothing to do with what they do. You sound creative but if I got their next album and heard your material behind it (I want to emphasize here I'm not trying to say anything negative about what you wright) I'd be very disappointed.
When I say it either moves you or it doesn't I'm not implying that it somehow points out a deficiency or strength in your musical taste.

This pretty much answers my question. Btw though, my soundcloud song is satirical
lol. you seriously needed someone to tell you "You either like it or you don't, either way is cool." ....????

It was just really straight up and kind of closed down the mystery of "will I ever get it?".
I really don't understand a lot of popular musical opinions. Why do people think Lana del Rey doesn't sound like she's yawning all the time? Why do so many people hate The Killers? Why do Swans sound like a horribly put together Modest Mouse-Phish cover band?
I don't really have much to add here that hasn't already been said. Exmilitary was one of those rare (at least for me) albums that made me oblivious to anything that is going on in the world around me. I had downloaded it onto my iPod when I was visiting my family in Florida and gave it a first listen sitting on my grandparent's couch. From 'Beware' into 'Guillotine' I knew something totally unique was happening, 'Spread Eagle Cross The Block' and 'Lord Of The Game' had me hooked, and it was during the first few seconds of 'Takyon' I thought "I don't know what the quack is happening here but I quacking love it." A few seconds later I realized my grandma had been trying to get my attention for the last 20 minutes. Exmilitary was on constant repeat for me the rest of the year.
The Money Store was accessible enough to soundtrack some parties, or at least the parties with my more open-minded friends. No Love Deep Web was the first release that took a while to grow on me. I didn't totally get into NLDW until after I saw them at roo ('No Love' holy shiz). After that point, admittedly the quality of their work slipped quite a lot. I totally understand the people who are rubbed the wrong way by their ditching scheduled dates and other shenanigans. But without reading too far into all that, my own personal Death Grips experience was perfect. They blew me away with a few albums, I saw them live at 'roo which was everything I had hoped it would be, and then they split up.
edit: ps: I'm alive.

If you're a fan of me, you're a fan of your motherquackin' self.

Something that I hate more than anything is bands who cancel a lot. It's why I love Jack White since he never cancelled due to his crazy foot injury (but of course had to bc of Ikey). It doesn't effect how I feel about their music though. What Death Grips sounds like to me is if you got a really energetic song and took away everything but the energy. It just sounds like pure energy to me which is probably what people like? I've just heard it's a rush if you really get into it.

Do you have nightmares any time you hear Morrissey's name?
He has cancelled the last four times he's booked Atlanta. This year was it was on my moms birthday too and she grew up to The Smiths. I was pretty pissed for a while but then he announced he has cancer so I'm pretty sure I can forgive him.
Ever had a bottle of liquor so awful that you just have to take 4-5 huge gulps really quickly and then throw the rest away?
Yep. Just happened.
When I was in Australia this past summer doing study abroad almost every night we had groups who just took turns buying bottles that we would all share. Remember when it was our turn to buy my buddy bought this huge jug of cheap port wine and I bought the cheapest vodka they had, which was a some kind of Russian brand. Our group didn't think much of our selections.
My personal favorite: "It strikes me as gruesome and comical that in our culture we have an expectation that man can always solve his problems ... This is so untrue that it makes me want to cry — or laugh." — From Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons
Then how do you get a cross between modest mouse and Phish? Swans is a band that I think sounds like nothing else. Its impossible to even describe what their music sounds like because it' defies every "genre" and is an entity of its own. Michael Gira has the ability to create any atmosphere he wishes from his music, it's increible and he's a genius and you're wrong

I also appreciate Swans being called a cover band of two bands that were formed after them.

I get Modest Mouse from those weird kind of chanting vocals that I can't describe and I get Phish from the fact that you can clearly hear each instrument individually as well as a whole but Swans just sounds really sloppy to me and that guitar playing is horrendous.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

You're listening to it too narrow minded. Try listening again and focus on the music as a whole. It's really something special dude

I never listen to music narrow mindledly just because I want to like as much music as possible. I mean even when I was 7 I was listening to Gorillaz and DFA 1979 so I've always kind of liked certain abstractions but Swans just sounds sloppy to me which might be hypocritical bc I like DFA
