I'll be the one to say it but I thought Hulu Plus was an enormous waste of money. Everything on there I want to watch I can easily find for free streaming on the internet. It was also really frustrating that you have to watch a ton of ads even though you're already paying a premium.
Now if you want to cut cable and want all of your viewing to easily integrate into a roku or apple tv then yea, I guess that might be worth it. But I was really disappointed with the service and canceled it pretty quickly.
I can see where you are coming from, and like it all- it depends on your style and what you want in your TV entertainment. I need to be able to watch it on my TV sometimes (I assume Zen does as well), so right there it's necessary. Not to mention, it has everything all grouped together, you don't have to search around for it. You can keep a queue- it'll show you exactly what new shows are available for you to watch instead of, "oh shoot! I haven't checked to see if Rghghthshzh has a new episode in months!" And it'll keep more of each show than the websites will. Abc.com etc. will keep the most recent episodes of a certain show, where hulu will often keep the entire current season. I often catch up and shows and back up and watch a new show from the Pilot. I am also not one to download or otherwise illegally watch a show- and Hulu is way cheaper than buying episodes on Amazon, iTunes, etc.. But I can see if you're happy with just your computer and searching around the internet for what you want, then yeah, I suppose you don't need it. For me, the $8/month is amaaaziinngggggg and, depending on the time of year, I spend WAY more time on that than every other option put together.

That + Netflix would have me pretty well covered (and for much cheaper) than cable. The only downside that I hate with paying for Hulu is you still get commercials. It's not like Spotify or things like that where the premium is ad-free. I'm sure the commercials are less frequent than the free version but that's something I always disliked.

I got rid of netflix and went to amazon prime bc it was $3 more a year for streaming and free shipping on my crap.
I actually don't mind the commercials- gives me a break to refill my drink, run to the bathroom, wash a dish or two... when I watch Netflix, I end up staring like a zombie, unable to move with an empty glass and my bladder ready to burst. I kinda prefer having the commericals over not! I completely believe that I am the minority here
so this is really stupid i know - but can someone please explain what a roku or apple tv does?

They're sreaming devices. Anyone who has a smart TV (internet capabilities), or a newer gaming system or Blu-Ray would not need a streaming device. These (along with others- Google Chromecast and the new Amazon Fire TV) will allow those with older TVs and no gaming system to be able to stream to their TV. With these devices you can stream Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOgo, etc. as well as other apps such as YouTube and Pandora.

Does Hulu offer any shows from AMC? We've been paying by the episode for new episodes of shows like Justified, Louie, and Fargo. For whatever reason, I assumed they wouldn't be offered on Hulu.
We do Netflix and Amazon Prime. We use Netflix a lot more for streaming, but the Amazon Prime free shipping is really nice, and they recently added a bunch of the HBO shows, so we are rewatching The Sopranos right now. Like I said, there are a few shows we've been paying for (usually a little under $2 per episode, and there are generally 1 or 2 shows we are paying for at any given time, although right now, there aren't any), but we haven't missed cable at all so far, and we watch a lot of tv.

You're right. I don't believe there is any app for new episodes from shows on AMC. (I do have Amazon Prime and use the shipping all the time, but rarely use it for streaming)

My bad!
Bonnie, meet Mr. Pause. Mr. Pause, Bonnie.
hahaha. Pause is an elusive man. It's hard to press it when you're into your show. I like the forced freedom of 1 minute commercials.. and I overall and slightly more productive.

i am could totally be making this up, but i thought i was talking to a friend (in real life) that said live sports and AMC were the biggest things they were missing when they got rid of cable. apparently AMC is a turd about their episodes and don't even upload them to THEIR website till at least a day after the episode airs on tv.

Just hit pause in the spots that are supposed to be commercial breaks anyway.

I am super glad the trashy Harlequin romance novels I read when I was 12 weren't like that one.
Danielle Steele?
No, ones like these. Although I did read her too.
I guess because my parents were divorcing and my grandparents were trying to overcompensate, my dear old grandpa got me a Harlequin subscription that summer. Because I asked of course. The summer before I turned 12 actually.

Bear, by Marian Engel (Toronto, 1976), winner of the Governor-General's Award, has been called the most controversial novel ever written in Canada because of its heroine's erotic relationship with a bear.
Lou is a lonely, middle-aged archivist who ekes out a molelike existence in the city, alienated from the natural world. Her summer journey to a wooded island in northern Ontario on a historical research assignment becomes a spiritual awakening; after her gradual communion with primitive forces in the wilderness, she is profoundly transformed, reborn as a fully integrated person, ready to start a new life in the city.
Although Engel's unconventional, imaginative tale has an economical, unpretentious prose style and a deceptively simple plot, the novel achieves its power through the complex symbolic and mythic levels on which it operates.
1. Note to future self: if your daughter is named Lou she will fuck at least one bear. 2. Northern Ontario? I figured it would be Nefoundland or Yukon. 3. Deceptively simple plot? Sure, the ole' go on a vacation fuck a bear formula always works. 4. She also wrote 2 childrens books.
