Getting emails for giant potlucks at work makes me cringe. I don't want to be a grouch, but there are so many unwashed hands, questionable storage temperature ranges, and mystery kitchens involved...
Sounds like the majority of restaurants in America?
I had something I thought was particularly interesting to write on here but then I realized:
"This is essentially an anecdote about me losing my mind in thought about last night's dreams as I stared vacantly at my dog while other people were trying to talk to me."
I'm running for state representative seat in the upcoming election. However, as I'm a Green and not a Democrat or Republican - I need to petition to get on the ballot. And I've got a bit too much social anxiety to be running around town asking strangers on the street to sign my form. So I'm wondering how in the hell I'm going to get 90-100 signatures in the next four weeks - especially if I'm out of state nearly every weekend before the deadline.
I know people who can possibly help me, but I'm assuming they won't. Take for example my uncle, who is the chair of the Republican town committee. Politically active, knows a bunch of people, is in my town. Should of asked him for help the other day, and I chickened out - cause we don't agree on much anything. Not sure if it was even worth the trouble asking. Wasn't I using this political stuff to get past the anxiety issues? God I suck at this.
A comedian could probably come back with a bit about how this says more about me than it does about the person being described, but, every time someone is described as sophisticated my gut reaction is to find this person and hit them in the face.
Half loathing Half curiosity to see how a sophisticated person would combat a blow to the face. Unfortunately it's mostly the loathing.

If I wasn't drunk I would try and understand what you;re saying.

Heather's mom can pretty much talk to anyone, at any time. Worse comes to worse, I can just drag her out here from RI on the first weekend in August and let some small miracle happen. It's uncomfortably close to the deadline, but still doable.
My grandmother works with the wife of the former representative in this district, but I don't remember why he vacated the seat. It's another lead I thought up.

People who are described as sophisticated bother me and I wanna hit them partially out of curiosity. Find the joke! I have faith in a drunk Ben/Bun.
Way worth it. With that and Netflix you are pretty set. A Roku Box or Apple TV is good to have as well and supports both of those plus many other channels if you are looking to cut your cable bill.
i have a wii. my mom gave me her amazon prime password, so with that, netflix and hulu, i should do just fine without cable. hadn't heard that much on the hulu front. thanks guys!

That's exactly what I have. I literally have only used Amazon for streaming one show- but the other two are key. Hulu is necessary if you want to keep up on current seasons of new shows.
And LD- it figures that there is exactly one Qdoba in the area (I just went on to look as well) and it's that close to me I don't go to Bishop's very often, but maybe I'll swing over there one night! Maybe I just never noticed it because I didn't really know what it was.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Last night I had a dream I bought a wii. I have nothing for you when it comes to your actual inquiry.

Last night I had a dream that I bought a fake Phish ticket. And the tickets were lanyards with beaded edges.

Last night I had a dream that I was back stage at the Skrillex Superjam. I talked to the lead singer of Cage the Elephant for a while, then Skrillex and the band was replaced with Bruce Springsteen.
He was talking to me about Jhonen Vasquez comics like "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac" and "I Feel Sick" and the second one led to him pulling a lever and filling a bucket of slime. Then Bruce Springsteen made me throw slime at the Bonnaroo audience. Everybody moved away from the slime and got mad at me. Then I woke up.
I don't know what Freud would think about all this.

I think you've been on inforoo too much. Detox time.
The slime gifs have permeated your subconscious mind.

Sir Paul were just chilling under a Bonnaroo shade tree one dream, and I looked back and nonchalantly said "Paul, that set a few years ago was one of the best" He said "Thanks mate" and a bunch of other chummy stuff as I sat their people watching. Good times.
so i have an internet enabled tv. i have netflix and amazon prime. except for HBO i probably only need basic cable, right?

What you "need" depends on you. If you want the news, basic sports games on Fox, then basic cable is a good idea. I haven't had cable in years and the only times I kinda wish I had it was for award shows. If you basically just watch regular TV shows.. then basic cable is still superfluous.

I haven't had a cable box, netlifx, amazon prime, etc. for about 2 years now. For a brief period of time I subscribed to NYT Home Delivery but decided it was a total waste of money and paper so I cancelled that too.
I pretty much only use the internet, and if I need to watch something on TV (which is pretty much only ever a sporting event) I will go to the bar or a friend's house...or now that I'm home, my brother's room.
I think it really depends on the person, though. I'm kinda a lunatic.
I'll be the one to say it but I thought Hulu Plus was an enormous waste of money. Everything on there I want to watch I can easily find for free streaming on the internet. It was also really frustrating that you have to watch a ton of ads even though you're already paying a premium.
Now if you want to cut cable and want all of your viewing to easily integrate into a roku or apple tv then yea, I guess that might be worth it. But I was really disappointed with the service and canceled it pretty quickly.

I know this may sound overly critical, but (1) you don't have the stones to get 100 people to sign a piece of paper and (2) you can't even commit enough time to do it.
What makes you think you can adequately represent people in government if you can't even do those 2 things? You'd be facing significantly more complicated and anxiety-inducing tasks if you ever got elected, let alone the stress from actually running a campaign.
Edit: As an aside, I do think its pretty damn cool that you're even considering this. And I hope that you actually pull it off.
