Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The odd thing is I had run back to camp and was going to go in to to see them but the sound from camp inforoo was excellent. It was easily as loud as a turned up radio sitting beside you.

i am definitely on board with this. it's been an off and on problem for too many years. i thought they had it figured out after last year, but no. and yes, please do something different with that on tap lounge. i would prefer it be eliminated, but that won't happen. too much sound bleeding.
It's a problem many people are complaining about. They got the video screen up there, although it would be nice to have one on either side.
For the sound, it certainly is an issue that can be fixed. It's not like the natural acoustics of that area are killing the sound. I think it's more of a problem with the speakers, how many there are, and their placement.
Luckily for me, every time I went to WHICH STAGE, the volume level was fine. Supposedly all you had to do was walk 30' to the left or right and it would better.
The biggest thing Which needs is a video screen on the right side.
I'd rather listen to musicians I can't see than see musicians I can't hear.
Ditto. I loved the addition of the screen to the Which Stage, but getting the sound issues fixed is a bigger priority. I never remember it being a constant problem in years past. Saturday was the worst. Mumford & Sons was drowned out by Wiz Khalif on the left side, Buffalo Springfield was barely audible before Mr. Soul. Even SCI had some static to fight through on their first song.
Obviously, every band cant bring their own sound guys, and everyone is on a tight schedule, so quality will always suffer somewhat. But I'd rather wait and have them get it right, ya know. I have faith that Bonnaroo will address the issue next year. The What Stage sound had some serious problems in 2004, and I haven't had a complaint since
agreed. last year i didn't notice it as much but the crowds were MUCH smaller so i was able to be closer. this year i was never able to get up anywhere near the front of the stage and the sound was awful!
I'd have to jump on board with this request. Allison Kraus was nearly inaudible due to the sound bleed and I was about mid way up on the right side. I walked around, but couldn't find a good spot without muscling my way to the front.
Another annoyance, but easy and inexpensive fix....between Which and What stage...what the hell is the deal with laying pallets out where the water seems to have a natural flow? They've put concrete swells for a portion of it, but certainly not enough to handle the water flow or manage the crowds. Seems like they would invest a couple hundred dollars to finish the concrete swell and eliminate twisted ankles and lost flip flops between the wooden pallet slats.

The Which Stage pit was easy to get into for most shows. I'm sure it wasn't for Mumford and Lil' Wayne. Buffalo Springfield sounded fantastic from there, but the bass almost blew me away during Warren Haynes.
A quick note about the grass in Centeroo. I went with a group of volunteers this year. At one point, we got to wander around Centeroo before they closed it (and opened the campground). There *is* grass there, before all the feet arrive... and grind the whole area into fine dust. Here's a pic:
A football field's worth of artificial turf cost hundreds of thousands of dollars; turfing and maintaining tens of acres like Centaroo would cost easily over $10 million.

Not only that, but artificial turf would be hot as balls. The rubber base absorbs tons of heat.
Just some gravel walkways would help direct traffic, keep the dust down and help grass grow in other places.
I'd like to echo the thought that hearing the bands is more important than another video screen. I went to BS, STI, G Love, as well as Iron and Wine and the sound was a constant piss off. It actually sounded better from pod 8 than under the trees. They should just put another set of speakers behind the sound board.
Secondly, at the Gorge where Sasquatch is held they grow their grass very long and it is a pretty sturdy grass but not to the point where it stabs through your clothes. That grass is used all year and for 3.5 straight days for Sasquatch and it holds up fine.

It might not be the most practical but I wonder if a total relocation would help. Move the Comedy and Movie tents to the Which stage location and the Which to that location. This causes new problems like bleed from the which to a tent and it would be more difficult to get from the Which to the what. However if you put the vendors between the new which location and the tents nearby you might stop the bleed and maybe the fact the stages are furthur apart might actually have some other benefits.

I agree with the wonkiness of the sound a lot of the time, but the problematic part of putting speakers behind them is the noise bleed to the other stages that would be harder for them to monitor. Total Catch 22 situation... but I feel ya

I also agree with moving it, I mean it's the second biggest stage and the current set up is a cluster-fuck at best. The way it's set up doesn't maximize the amount of people who can see and hear. People would probably bitch because of the longer walk between What and Which but I think it could go where the Other Tent is and then move the Other tent to the current Which location.

i agree with what everyone said as well. and will second the addition of art and more grass. if other festivals can manage to have their grass not turn into dust after one day, i think 'roo can too!
towards the end of BS we started moving from the right of the stage, around the crowd, and to the left. amazing how much the sound quality changed depending on your position in the crowd.

I'll say with a good dose of confidence that they general design/layout of Centeroo will not change. I don't think the Which Stage needs to move at all, and BS was the only show I've seen there over five years that had any sound issues fer me personally. I was somewhere to the left of the trees that are in the Which field though. Also, without havin' any kind of green thumb, the grass at Sasquatch could very well be a different breed of grass than that at 'Roo. Might not even be compatible with the Manchester, TN climate. I dunno! But I don't think the grass situation will change much. It was pretty dry if I recall in that area fer a week or two leadin' up to a dry festival too. I just don't think there was much that could've been done 'bout the dust this year with those conditions.
I'd imagine the grass is different. Pacific NW vs Tennessee. Also it is a lot cooler at Sasquatch Festival than Bonnaroo so the sun isn't as hard on it. The length of the grass at Sasquatch was several times that of the grass in Centeroo. If they could grow it a little longer it may help the cause, at least for an extra day if not the entire weekend.

They're not going to change the layout of Centeroo now. They may make slight alterations (maybe expand a few feet here or there) but they aren't going to make any major changes. They've learned how to make this set up work for them so no reason to change it and potentially have a whole mess of new problems.
