Signed. I hate it when an artist I really want to see is on the Which stage. Just fix the sound already, even if it means you have to reposition the stage a little.

Yeah this was the first year I really noticed it being problematic but the sound problems were atrocious all weekend.
I also agree with NoD in that they should have more art in Centeroo. They need some large permanent installation pieces (preferably ones that were made with late night in mind). It can't just be the fountain, the bobbleheads, and sparse graffiti every year.
The Which Stage sound was bad enough during Alison Krauss & Union Station (I was under the trees for that one and could barely even hear the voice that managed to fill the entire What Stage field back in '08) - but Buffalo Springfield's sound was simply unforgivable, especially since they were unopposed. It just really sucks, since the bands that I'm most excited for usually end up stuck on Which.
And I also agree completely about the lack of art. It seems they've virtually eliminated the art from their budget since I first started going, which is really sad to see. Unless they improve it next year, I'm petitioning for Bonnaroo to remove the "arts" part of their name for false advertising.
I've said it before and will say it again. I think that a lot of Which stage problems are the result of sound bleed from that On Tap lounge, which was nice when it was enclosed as the Troo Music Lounge and a favorite hangout, but this year was just another place to stand outside and sweat your arse off or bleed sound from.
Yeah, the combines Which stage sound issues combined with the on tap lounge during Buffalo Springfield made Me want to tear out Ashley Capps' eyes. To only have two bands playing, RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, is logistically retarded. And i agree with Nod that there could be some more art... I don't need flashy, wasteful powered art installations like Rothbury, but at least give us something nice to look at.

I didn't have any problems at the which stage during any show. All my friends said during BS that there was terrible sounds problems but I was by the ATM's on the left and had no problems...even walking back to camp before Eminem I heard it until I got back to camp and enjoyed Rocking in the Free World from there. G. Love, Amos, Old Crow, Mumford, Lil Wayne, and Bela Fleck. No problems.
I do wish though there was more areas for shade...that sun is a killer all day until 6 rolls around and I felt like no one moved from under those trees.

Someone told me the other day that people were booing Neil Young at Roo, but near me, (right up front though) everyone was worshipping Neil and shouting along to Rocking in the Free World.

I hope he realizes nobody was booing BS. Any boos were a result of the shitty sound quality.

Yea, that's what I said after they mentioned that. They tried to make it some greater commentary on what Roo was like and I said, "I know what it's like, I go every year."

The biggest thing Which needs is a video screen on the right side.
But obviously there are sound issues that need to be addressed. Buffalo Springfield sounded fine from the Brooers Tent. But there must be sound-wave interference that's causing cancellations in places around the audience area. Maybe one of the speakers was reverse-wired.

I'd rather listen to musicians I can't see than see musicians I can't hear.
^^^This!! Had no issues with Which stage last year.. that said only did one or two shows there, not overly crowded, half way up under the trees. Most of our choices for '10 were tents and What.
This year far too many big acts at Which. Too many of our must-see's were not good at all. Not the artists, the sound. Way too F*ing crowded to go close (for me) and the sound bleed from the lounge combined with the hit or miss hear-it-or-not depending on where you were or how tall you are was horrible.
To screw it up so bad that Buffalo S. could be drowned out by the 'turn it up chants'... We rolled with it because we met tons of super Inforoosters that offset the not so good. (Thanks!! )

Was half expecting this thread to get locked, a little surprised to see it's been emphasized. And I assumed someone must've brought it up already.
But yeah, I wasn't even at the Which Stage that much but it was still clearly a problem. I wasn't far at all (right next to the sound booth) for Buffalo Springfield but the show was still barely audible. It sounded like they turned it up later, but I straight up left because me and my friends weren't having any fun. It sucks to go to a show that's half as loud as all the other shows you've been going to.
Strokes sucked too. And not just because they started late, played a half-ass set, and ended early. Explosions in the Sky was louder for me and I was way closer to the Strokes than EITS. Not saying they need to turn turn the tents down, because the problem wasn't sound bleed so much as the fact that the Which stage just wasn't loud enough.
It's been a problem before in my experience. I remember my first time there going from Yeah Yeah Yeahs up close I felt like I was in a show where after that chilling in the lawn for Animal Collective I felt like I wasn't even at a show but that I was watching one from outside of it. One screen helps but the sound remains the glaring issue.
This was the first year I noticed any sound issues with the Which stage. And it was really only durin' Buffalo Springfield. Otherwise I've never had any complaints with sound at Bonnaroo.

I was just outside the Pit for BS and the sound there was fine. What I'd really like to see is more video screens through out roo. The sports bars were full and the cinema tent was full of people trying to watch the NBA finals. Would have been nice to have a screen outside those so others could have seen. Why not screens at the tents. It would also be nice to find a way to put some kinda shade for the What and Which stages, I saw a few mid day acts and that sun beating down really cooks. Some people were sitting in line to get into the pit for as long as six hours or more, I think they could hand out passes like they do for the comedy shows so you could get your pass and come back later. Better yet would be if they could scan your wristband that would enter you into the computer, come back later for your show and scan your band to get in.
