I was really hoping we would get an Asheville date for these guys. Missed them for Pusha T which was dumb.

I'm going to Cut/Copy on Friday in Indianapolis, anyone know how they performed at Roo? I saw on setlist.fm they had a shorter set at Bonnaroo than their shows after so I'm excited that I'll get to hear more.

Ok fellow inforooers, need some advice. Going to Swans next week in Nashville and I have to ask: earplugs or no earplugs? I missed them at roo last year in order to get a close spot for Tame Impala (which I don't really regret because Tame was incredible), but my brother and I could actually hear them in the middle of the packed other tent in between Holy Ghost and Tame. So I ask, are the earplugs a necessity or not? I've seen some pretty loud shows (Mogwai, GY!BE, Ty Segall) without earplugs (actually have never worn plugs at a show), and enjoyed all of those shows immensely. Right now I'm thinking of taking a pair, but not putting them in unless it gets truly painful. Thoughts?

I've seen them twice. Once outdoors at Roo and once in a club. I felt the volume with my body more so than it hurt my ears. Personally, I wouldn't wear ear plugs. But, I've never found them neccessary.

That's what I'm thinking, I just had to ask since Swans seem to be on a whole other level of volume from everything I've heard. Pretty damn excited that my first time seeing them will be the full 2.5 hour show in a small, intimate setting.

Sounds like you are going to have a good time.
FTR, I think A Place to Bury Strangers was the most uncomfortably loud show I've ever been to. Swans' volume is rich, full, and feels good.

Thanks for the advice. I'm expecting nothing less than an absolutely mind-seering, sublime show.

If you don't already own real earplugs (fitted, not that foam garbage), you literally won't be able to hear normally for a month after a Swans show. Michael Gira plays his own feedback as an instrument, it's pretty quacking loud.
