But there was no way that the dog wasn't going to die. Its murder was premeditated. Also the mission was a success.
Doesn't disprove a thing regarding the clue. Plus, as I said, I think this is nitpicking.
Haha. I got tore apart because I thought an interpretation that wasn't even mine was sound. Now I'm told that I'm nitpicking? Why is everyone picking on me?
Also, that's not really against you, karosko. I think you're a pretty cool guy.

As much as I would like it to be Arcade Fire, the trip wasn't thwarted by the dog dying. By definition, thwarted means to prevent from accomplishing a purpose. The death was expected and the space trip was a success, I believe. Thats not nitpicking, thats just following the wording of the clue.

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to pick on you, man. I didn't intend to come off mean or anything, sorry. I was just saying that I think the AF thing is pretty concrete aside from some minor inconsistencies. And I don't think that I'm just thinking that because I really want AF at Bonnaroo, although there is no way of knowing.

I guess so, but shouldn't we be nitpicking? The clues last year definitely required it!
Yeah, I think we should be nitpicking to find good guesses, but I think there are too many concrete links between the clue and Arcade Fire to say that the minor inconsistencies mentioned disqualify them.

Ok, going to take a little different path here, which is probably wrong but something to think on.
In Toy Story 2, Woody's Roundup (Woody being the speckled lad) was canceled due to the launch of Sputnik. The final episode Stinky Pete and Jessie were about to be blown up in a cave full of dynamite (the explosion being the "trip to the moon.") The unaired final was to be titled "Woody's Finest Hour" (the watershed moment).
If this is indeed the path the clue is leading us on, I see one of two bands. Obviously, Randy Newman is the most associated artist with the Toy Story franchise, but the theme song to Woody's Roundup on the Soundtrack was performed by Riders in the Sky. They have a show on 6/11 in California but then nothing until 6/25 so it's easily doable. Randy Newman's dates end in April and don't pick up again until July.
Those probably aren't right, but they're small to mid-level artists and haven't been mentioned before.

I do like the Cold War Kids line of thought.
But as I said, I believe that people argued that this accomplishment was tainted since the dog didn't return alive, even if the Russians knew that he wasn't going to. Thus, it COULD be argued that the accomplishment was thwarted by Laika dying.
My main thing is I'm not entirely convinced "speckled lad" refers to a dog. If it does refer to a dog, then I definitely think this clue points to AF, since clearly everyone is thinking Cold War, and the dog in question IS THE SAME NAME AS AN ARCADE FIRE SONG for Christ's sake . That is just too big of a coincidence to ignore. Like I said, though, that's contingent on whether or not "speckled lad" does indeed refer to a dog.

I'm gonna laugh really hard if this turns out to be it. Awesome.

To be fair, that's a pretty difficult thing to do. I mean, some of the guesses are far-fetched (like the Floyd ones) but I could see Gorillaz, AF, or Brian Jonestown Massacre all being right given the clue.
what is the logic for Gorillaz? really hard keeping up with this thread...
Not buying the BJM guess at all. Seems like a pretty huge stretch.
Gorillaz have a remix album called Laika Come Home, which is stronger than the AF theory I think, because if the mission was for Laika to come home, then it was thwarted.

At this point, I would say Arcade Fire is one of the better guesses. I just don't think its going to hold up in the end.
I can't remember if the real or fake katie said the next clue is coming Friday, but hopefully this one will be solved by then, but I don't know if/how we will get a confirmation.

That makes sense, too. I do think that the song by AF is more well-known than that remix album by Gorillaz. All this means is that if I were a gambling man, my money would still be Arcade Fire. Not stating that I am certain that I'm correct, just stating what I think is the strongest guess (still).

I, too, am still not optimistic that AF will actually be there, since there have been no indications prior to this that they were going to be at Roo. Just saying that this is the guess that makes most sense to me.
I think we should get away from the Russian/Cold War thing because we were led there by a troll in DJ's clothing. I think we might have to start from scratch. DJ Katie will hopefully be on soon to shed some light or perhaps give a hint to push in the right direction.

I have never been here for the clues before. Do they usually help out a bit if people aren't getting it?

The old DJ, DJJD did, but there is a new DJ (Katie) so who knows...

Sublime with Rome- Lou dog had spots (speckled) and went to the moon in a song where Brad was real down about losing him. Brad died so there's demise. And then everything would change for sublime with Rome in the mix (watershed moment).
