so, is it assumed that the hip/hop artist has been narrowed down to dre & eminem (in some form)/outkast/jay-z & kanye? any of these would be spectacular and could easily be #1 on the line-up...they all fit the "classic" part & the "hip/hop" part...all of them have been VERY relevant all thoughout the '90s and had a huge influence on the music of that era (kanye maybe a little later, but his new album is amazing)...any one of these three would be an amazing show!!!
what's confusing is she keeps going from headliner to primetime spot to preheadliner with these posts. i interpret the black keys as playing before the actual 'classic' headliner either on what or closing which on sat
this is kinda what im thinking too... i would be really surprised if there wasnt a Petty/Bruce/Stevie-type act this year. theres always been one
Is anybody thinking that it might be Rocafella records in general.. it might say Kanye and Jay Z on the lineup but with The Black Keys playing later that night we could get some Blakroc in their set
Blakroc isn't Roc-A-Fella.
Damon Dash put that whole project together.. not a lot of those artist are the Blakroc album put yes the collaboration was done through Damon Dash and rocafella
What a bunch of whiners here. Arcade Fire is the best headliner at Coachella. Panic would headline at any of the garbage hippie festivals people here verbally fellate, like All Good or whatever. MMJ is easily the best band at Hangout. Black Keys and Robert Plant are a solid start to the undercard. If it happens to be Outkast for the hip hop show (which I doubt), then you're looking at a top line of Outkast/Arcade Fire/Widespread Panic/My Morning Jacket/Massive Attack/Robert Plant/Black Keys, not to mention the ridiculous undercard we're already starting to see take shape.
Seriously, I feel like unless it was Neil Young/Radiohead/Phish/Daft Punk, everyone here would have been disappointed.
So? That's a total of ZERO bands consistently playing arenas. Even Arcade Fire plays amphitheaters on full tours. It is weak. No wow factor. Not saying they suck, but look at it compared to other fests... if that was the top 6 at Lollapalooza it would not fly.
Who gives a sh*t if they play arenas? You know who plays arenas? The Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber. Where people play doesn't really mean sh*t. A lineup of Arcade Fire/MMJ/Panic/Black Keys/Massive Attack/Robert Plant/Outkast would be ridiculously stacked. No crappy nostalgia acts like the Rolling Stones or the Who, no garbage top-25 band like Kings of Leon, what more do you want? That list tops any other American festival, hands down. Sorry, Radiohead, Daft Punk, Buffalo Springfield, and whatever the f*ck else people want aren't available. Just isn't happening.
I honestly can't believe people are already complaining about the lineup and it's not even out yet. People are such entitled, whiny little fish tacos.
Dude, while you often crack me up, I usually think you're a total @ss, but I gotta say I can wholeheartedly agree with you here. people on here fucking love to complain. theyll never be pleased unless all their favorite bands are on the bill
The headlining hip-hop act is a 2Pac and Biggie one-off performance, afterwards they're going back into hiding. That's the reason negotiations are taking so long.
You guys really think Big Boi is going to confirm he's there on twitter if there's a fucking OutKast reunion in the works? Only if it was an accident. If they are still working with this artist(s) it's someone touring now. Like Lil Wayne/Jay-Z and Kanye/Dr. Dre and Snoop or Eminem/Gorillaz last show? Insider ruled out Lil Wayne and I don't think Ludacris or Drake are big enough.

Great first post (not sarcastic I swear). Welcome.

I am entitled, I am a paying consumer. I get to have an opinion about what I pay for. I'm not saying I won't still love it and have a great time, but I can't help but be a little saddened over the lack of WOW factor. None of those acts are really anything special that I can only catch at Roo or whatever. And from a marketing perspective having no WOW factor really makes no sense to me...
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

It has more WOW than any other lineup from any other festival this year I have seen.. Be glad you get this lineup
I disagree. I'm pretty happy with that at the top.
You guys kinda forget, Black Keys have reeeeeeeally blown up this year.

Yeah, I definitely wouldnt call Gorillaz hip hop. They have their own sound, theyre just an Alternative Rock band with strong Electronic and Hip Hop influences, among many other influences

Maybe according to your music tastes. I like the bands, don't get me wrong, I just wish some of them were a little lower on the lineup and they had stronger headliners. Not that unreasonable... they are bands I like though, I just don't see them as headlining. Honestly think Kings of Leon/Kanye West/Arcade Fire/The Strokes combo at Coachella is stronger so far and I hate KOL hahaha. Unless we get The Strokes as part of our lineup as rumored
FWIW, the "top 6" in 2006, which most people regard as the pinnacle of Bonnaroo, was Radiohead/Tom Petty/Phil Lesh/Elvis Costello/Beck/Oysterhead. In 2007, it was The Police/Tool/Panic/White Stripes/Ben Harper/Wilco. In 2008 it was Metallica/Pearl Jam/Jack Johnson/Widespread Panic/Kanye West/Robert Plant.
Do I need to go on? Do people think that a lineup of say, Arcade Fire/Outkast/Widespread Panic/My Morning Jacket/Massive Attack/Robert Plant/Black Keys is worse than any of those? Seriously?
I mean, f*ck. Some of these bands (that may play as preheadliners) might not be in the top 6. Some of the above listed ones weren't. So relax. Jesus.
In quality, it's as good or better than most of those. Esp to the tastes of you guys on this board (c'mon guys)
But in terms of legendary status, name recognition and popularity this is the worse yet when weighed against the top 2 headliners of any of those years
