I was curious juggs...when you recorded yours, did you do a live recording through line-in or was it a true data rip (bit for bit as it streamed)? I was also wondering if the npr folks did any post production before posting them in the archive? Have you listened to any sets on their website after the fact to compare with how they aired live?

Rest: Ya, the key here is that these are not line-out rips of live streams but the original data file that is being streamed. It is unlikely that anyone is executing a true bit for bit as streamed rip. Or at least, I'd be curious what software folks are using that does that.
When it comes down to it the difference is probably subtle since none of what we're talking about is high bitrate or lossless but just the same it would be ideal to work with source complete data than messing with stuff pulled via stream. Combine that with streams sometimes being interrupted / imperfect and this is at least substantial improvement over previously available audio for archiving.
