Hope you're not just making it up to screw with people (like others have done in the past). I feel like this would make a bunch of people happy if they got added. Cool news.

UM would be a great add to help fill the jam band slots, as would a tab show or a mike gordon. hell even moe, but they wouldnt get another late night set.

When they added Umphrey's in 2008 it went a long way to appease the Metallica hater jammies that year. That turned out to be the heaviest Umphrey's set I've ever seen!
Anyways, what itrainmonkeys said, if you are screwing with us you suck, but if this is real, it is fantastic news, and thank you for the info

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't they cover Metallica at that show? or at least some other heavy metal song.
If I remember right, they teased with Master of Puppets.
They did play Wizard Burial Ground though, which is reasonably heavy.
Ah yes....a tease. That makes sense. I only caught half of their show. I've seen Umphrey's a few times but still don't know the names of their songs. I need research.

Yeah, they didn't play "Master of Puppets," though they did indeed tease part of it. In 2004, however, during their late night set they covered "...And Justice For All" following the moe. interlude where moe. played "Enter Sandman."
Everytime some sad faux-hippie got butthurt about Metallica playing in 2008, I brought this up. I was at the aforementioned Umphrey's/moe. throwdown, and the whole tent went f*cking apesh*t when the Metallica covers hit. And it's not like these were some psychedelic, jammy reinterpretations of Metallica, these were near-note-perfect covers of the songs. Never understood how you can like a Metallica song when it is perfectly covered by Umphrey's or moe., yet hate/denounce/bemoan Metallica themselves.
Now that I've finished my rant/tangent, yeah, Umphrey's would be pretty sweet. I actually like them playing for 90 minutes or so in the daytime - sometimes their longer sets get a bit too noodly/boring for my tastes. When they're more constrained in time they tend to be more efficient.

I'm not making it up. I will try to post an image of my school paper when I get off work.
We may seem cautious/untrustworthy but that is mainly because every year a bunch of people sign up and start telling us about bands playing roo and claim they have a reliable source and then it doesn't come true. Your story sounds legit. More legit than "my friend's cousin told me they ask Umph's roadie and he said something that sounded like bonnaroo" which is what we usually get.

We def need some more jam.....and UM tops all at covers. Anybody else see where they're changing their shows now. It's called the UMbowl, a 4 + hour extravaganza. 1st "quarter" will be an acoustic set picked by the fans via poll. They will also have "tailgating options, a halftime show, limited edition merch....."
These guys put so much into their shows so that the fans will have a great experience. I've only seen them once and only got to catch their first set but they are tight.

UM were defiantly one of the highlights of Roth this past year, two sets. I would love to see them on the farm, a great step forward...or is that furthur...

I'm with questionablesanity on that one, every time i see Umph i look forward to their cover as they normally pull out at least a tease of one in their shows... i think i nearly shat myself when they pulled out Comfortably Numb at Roth last year, or when they played "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" NYE 2008... Lmao i didn't see that one coming
Oh hell yes! Thanks for filling us in. I don't know why I'm so excited about this since I'm not going this year, but an Umphrey's add will definitely bump this lineup up a notch or two. Have fun at their show!
And yes, Umphrey's is definitely at the top of their game when it comes to covers. The first time I ever saw them, they did two covers in a row - Dear Prudence > Another Brick in the Wall. Amazing! Also, I saw a video on YouTube of them doing Shine On You Crazy Diamond at AllGood last year, which sounded fantastic. I just hope they get a late night again.
