I think the surprise was that Sasquatch had a better line-up than Bonnaroo.
It's all subjective. I personally would prefer Roo. I don't know many of the bands in the first two paragraphs of the alphabetical list except Band of Horses. They have great acts I like - Portugal. the man, dr. dog, she & him, mgmt, vampire weekend.
and I know a lot of people here wanted pavement.
but on the other hand. they have my morning jacket headlining and that is pretty sweet. i'm just going to think of it as a headlining warm-up for next year' bonnaroo.
...and now the rumor for Lollapalooza is Green Day and Soundgarden. I'm gonna be at Bonnaroo and am generally very happy with the lineup... but why does EVERY OTHER FESTIVAL have those amazing headliners that 'Roo is lacking? I'm hoping against hope that a Simon & Garfunkel announcement might come after Jazz Fest is over :>)

I'd be more upset with Green Day and Soundgarden being Roo headliners this year than the current acts. But that's just me and personal taste.

So since Sasquatch's headliners are 1. A band that played a tent at Bonnaroo last year, 2. A band that hasn't played in 11 years. and 3. MMJ, that is better than the Bonnaroo lineup somehow, I think not. Not to mention half the performers at Sasquatch this year are on the Bonnaroo bill as well. Also not to mention there is a good amount of people that played Bonnaroo LAST YEAR that are on the Sasquatch bill. So how again is this better than Bonnaroo.

personal taste? I like Bonnaroo's lineup better but it seems Sasquatch got headliners that more of the people on Inforoo would have preferred at Roo this year. I don't know.

1. Massive Attack hasn't played Bonnaroo
2. Pavement will have played by Sasquatch
3. It's MMJ's first major festival headlining appearance
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Sasquatch has a lot more top shelf "undercard" bands, that's for sure. See:
Ween, the Hold Steady, Mountain Goats, New Pornos, DBTs, Broken Social Scene, etc.
Pavement, Massive Attack, and MMJ, while not big enough to headline Roo, are really good draws and make excellent headliners for a fest the size of Sasquatch...
and I really wish Roo could have went more in this direction this year.

To be fair, Massive Attack and Pavement would both probably end up playing the Which Stage if they played Roo. Pavement probably to close one day and Massive Attack as a late night set.

we got owned by another festival it seems.
If you like all those bands more, then yea. I don't feel like Roo got owned by another festival. I just view it as a different lineup. Not a better one.

I wouldn't be as excited for those top shelf "undercard" acts. I'd rather see Flaming Lips doing DSOTM, The Dead Weather, The Black Keys, Phoenix, Damian Marley & Nas, John Fogerty, Jeff Beck, and Franti & Spearhead.
but like I keep saying...........just my personal preference.

This is a valid complaint. Rather than saying "Roo sucks, Other Festival Better" you would have just rathered Roo get more of the bands you'd enjoy. Hopefully there are a few surprise adds for Roo that are more to your liking. If not.......hope for next year.

Then what would constitute in having a better festival? My problem with Roo is not any one band being, or not being there. It's the fact that there is nothing here that makes it a must see festival for hardcore music fans. Casual music fans? sure. But not someone who has spent a year building anticipation for a festival that has usually gotten better every year.

To me, getting the chance to see Flips do DSOTM would be something worthwhile since it's a unique experience.
Seeing Jay-Z (with the inevitable guests) on the farm in front of a full crowd would be magical for me. I've been hoping for Jay-Z on the lineup since I began going to Roo.
Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Jimmy Cliff, Steve Martin, Kris Kristofferson - all those legendary acts in the same weekend? Casual music fans wouldn't really care about most of them, whereas I'm upset that I'm missing the chance to see all of them in one place for one ticket.
Also i've been waiting for a return to the farm from Black Keys (who have rarely toured the last couple years. Usually a few festivals and Auerbach solo stuff) and Dr. Dog.
Darryl Hall & Chromeo seems to be a unique experience as well.
See to me.....the lineup is just as good as every year. The top 2 on the lineup surely upset people and I don't even agree with it (to me Stevie and Jay should be listed first). All the reasons I listed above (plus all the other things that make Bonnaroo great) are what I would consider having a better festival.
If you have to call Steve Martin a musical legend than my point is you are just fishing for stuff.
It's not like every bonnaroo doesnt have 10 old school legends. I mean John Prine and Stevie Wonder are my top two draws, so it's something I have considered.

I called him a "legendary act". I don't know anything about his banjo band except one song I saw him play on late night television. I'd still be at his show just for the fact that he's a legend (in my mind).

You make it sound like having 10 old school legends every year is a bad thing.

I hear you on the Lips and Dead Weather. Those two shows will be great and I'd love to see them both at Roo...unfortunately those would be my only two "must see" shows.
and yeah, I could never say Roo sucks...I've had so many amazing times the past six years and have faith next year will be more to my liking. One down year (imo) isn't enough for me to write it off. I'm sure if I went I'd have fun, but with this lineup I can't justify spending the cash.
