If they wanted to go a more pop direction, where the hell is Gorillaz? That would have been just fine. Who do they think has been shelling money out to keep this festival going the past 8 years? I'll give you a clue...it wasn't anyone who likes the song "Beverly Hills", the last 4 DMB records, or anyone who was overjoyed to see the fraud Kings of Leon take home a few Grammys the other night.
ps...everytime i see Blues Traveler on the list i don't know whether to cry or laugh.

i'm disappointed, but i believe in bonnaroo. i'm holding out hope. after reading through all the pages it's nice to see so many people with completely different tastes feel the exact same way. no one is really that happy. i believe in ya bonnaroo.

i've agreed with nearly every single thing you've said in the thread, but blues traveler has some really fun stuff. they were great at roo 06 too. i'm not a huge fan, but it's not like they have them placed 5th or 6th on the bill (weezer ahem) so it's all good.
I'm always in it for the undercard, so I'm pleased. The less time spent speculating on what the lineup may contain the happier you'll be.
This. I gave you a supersweet popularity notch for this. It took me a few years to figure out that the headliner slots, unless you just absolutely can't miss them, are the best time to take a wander, go back to camp, give yourself a cat bath, make yourself some dinner and a drink that doesn't cost you 30 bucks, take a lil power nap, and not be one of those zombie-exhausted people at 3am when the really nice stuff is going on.

Wonderful lineup, so pleased with the late night/ afternoon. Flaming Lips is gonna leave my face on the ground. Deadmau5 will be a party, as will Bassnectar and LCD Soundsystem. Bisco and Lotus are basically the only jam bands, which isn't quite enough for me, but I'll be jamming enough at Waka the week before anyway so it's all good.
Neon Indian will be a dope thursday night show, as will Here We Go Magic, and the afternoons will be packed with great bands like Avett Bros, Edward Sharpe, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Beck, Chromeo(glad they're with hall cause the nights are too packed), Les Claypool, Kris Kristofferson, The xx, Blittzen Trapper, Miike Snow, Dan Deacon, The National, Thievery Corp, Mumford and Sons, MMW, Rebelution, John Prine, The Black Keys, Phoenix, Damien and Nas, She & Him. And I think 311 will be added.
I know that's half the damn lineup but hell I'm in heaven right now, I'd pay to see each of those bands.
Also I've heard a few songs from each of the other acts and there are a few other good bands. Oh and who the quack saw The Melvins coming? I don't listen to them but may attend the show for a great mosh.
Jay-Z will be a blast, plus he's a legend to be for anyone who give a damn about rap(like me)
This lineup is so damn diverse. That is the thing about this festival. I love to jam which is why I'll be at Waka (and I'm glad I will be because Roo brushed off the hippies) but I got some of every kind of music that I like at Roo.
Pavement will be the icing.
I am sorry to all of you dissapointed with the lineup, I'm not surprised one bit, as CoS selfishly got everyone's hopes up that there would be six headliners. Loved you guys for the last month for keeping that neat list, but "confirming" (which you changed to "expecting" to cover your ass but still explained it as unofficially confirmed) Neil, shame on you. You quacked Bonnaroo on that one, lost them some tickets for sure. I can't stress enough how much I think CoS "expecting" Neil and strongly rumoring Waters raised expectations to an unreasonable level.
The headliners are not my taste but are solid, especially from a ticket sale standpoint. I would argue that those headliners will sell more tickets than previous years, but I could be wrong. KoL will be opposed by Stevie methinks so that's good, and Jay-Z will be sick, and I am gonna try my best make myself like Dave Matthews voice dammit so I don't have to end roo on a sour note.
I count five legends, (Stevie, Jay, Jeff Beck, Kris Kristofferson, Flips) a grunge fans legend, (the melvins), a legends son and god's son. So on top of all the fun I'll have I can check four more off my list, gravy.
No wow factor? Head on over to Flaming Lips Friday night and I bet you'll leave and not be able to say much besides "Wow". If that's not your thing maybe Jay Z is cause that's Wow to me too.
Maybe I like too much or something, but obviously that doesn't bother me a bit. I hope some of you change your mind cause I would love to see you all on the farm, this is a great site with light years more intelligent conversation than any other message board I've seen. I especially hope the entertaining Inforoo vets will be cause you obviously love it alot and it just has more to offer than other festivals. Well it is no longer the grassroots hippyfest it began as, Bonnaroo's increasing commercialality(?) has allowed it to offer the most diverse acts which unless your really into one or two kinds of music (which is cool if its jam bands) doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.
Thanks for reading my late night essay on The Bonnaroo Lineup 2010. Goodnight Now!

umm the "Stevie is a legend; my legend" part was the beginning of the legend paragraph which i moved so that wasn't supposed to say that. My legend is certainly Wayne Coyne lol
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
I'm pretty sure the who were on this and dropped off. Only thing I can think of that explains it.
and superfly's little twitter stunt is incredibly insulting
Makes sense. It was someone that dropped out, thats for certain. The Who is the logical choice.
I noticed that the Who greatest hits album that they are releasing is being released everywhere except the USA!!! I think that pete townsend is p!ssed at America for the fuss they made about granting him a visa for the superbowl performance. So maybe they did pull out! This would mean that a few weeks ago AC/Sf was down 1 headliner. Leaving not enough time to finalize the contract with NEIL!!!
***Note: This is officially where the WHO dropping out rumor started!!!

I don't think the Who dropped out. By all indications, The Who were scheduled for Coachella and Jazz Fest, then they dropped so Pete could keep writing, I don't think they would have done Bonnaroo as well. Something went wrong here, but it wasn't the Who. The Rolling Stones?
I just don't believe that getting Dave as first on the bill was ever the intention. He played Outside Lands, ACL, 10KLF last year, I think he was supposed to be second and then bumped when a band like the Stones decided to hand back the money, and not tour at all this year.
I'm pretty happy with the lineup, however I can understand some people's frustration. Over the years Bonnaroo has come to be known as a "hippie" fest and not in a bad way. The lack of jam bands this year in no way reflects that, so as I said I can see where there are some disappointed people. I hope they re-think the idea of releasing the lineup this way in the future. It just sets up a situation where people are bound to be disappointed because it gives people false hope that there will be this super star blockbuster artist that you cannot produce.
That said, this will be my second time on the farm and to be honest I would have come back even if the lineup consisted of KOL playing non-stop for three days. I had a blast last year and my experience lived up to the hype and then some. See y'all there.
When I look at it on the Bonnaroo site I'm disappointed. But when it was coming out, I was very excited. There's something about the way the lineups are listed on bonnaroo.com.

"You may be assured of this that very dreadful calamities are coming upon you, calamities that shall carry nothing of support nor comfort in them, but all misery, misery in time, misery to eternity, misery in your outward afflictions, misery in your inward frame and temper of mind, misery in this world, misery in hell. You have not a single instance of misery only coming upon you, but miseries.
The ruin of your church and nation is at hand; and there will come a day of wrath, when riches shall not profit men, but all the wicked shall be destroyed." "Weep and howl, for when your doom comes there will be nothing but weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth."
"Corruption, decay, rust, and ruin, will come upon all your goodly things: Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten, Those things which you now inordinately affect will hereafter insupportably wound you: they will be of no worth, of no use to you, but, on the contrary, will pierce you through with many sorrows; for They will witness against you, and they will eat your flesh as it were fire,"
6/18: Phish in Hartford 6/25: Phish in Camden 7/2-7/4: Nateva 7/17: God Street Wine at Irving Plaza 7/23-7/25: String Cheese at Red Rocks!! 8/17-8/18: Phish at Jones Beach 9/3: Rush at PNC
This Bonnaroo lineup is in dire need of some Rush.
everybody saying "they aren't done with the line-up yet" - whats the biggest name they've added later on? chris rock. not a band. not a headliner. a comedian.
Ummmm Neil Young? Public Enemy? Phoenix? Les Claypool? Stephen Marley? All late additions
SO i slept on this lineup, and took a look at it this morning... and there are a lot of bands that will be awesome to watch... let alone the late night will be great too. If you're really disappointed, maybe take a few days off the board, don't think about it, then come back and see the lineup again.
I went to SummerCamp in 2008, and it was there biggest and best lineup ever - the flaming lips, george clinton & p-funk, the avett brothers, and the roots. the next year, in their spots were buckethead, method man and redman, willie nelson (<3), and buckethead. I thought it was going to suck, as all those (with the exception of willie) bands are definitely downgrades comparitively. but i ended up going anyways, and still had a blast. because a lot of times with festivals, it isn't necessarily the headliners (or lack there of) but the overall atmosphere and the people who make the festival.

I have not lived on Inforoo this spring like the last two years. I am happy with the various bands. I have not always watched the headliners on the big stage, so I can choose other stages to check things out. I am amazed that people are so down on the schedule.
I am an old fart and find that a number of the better headliners are people/acts that given a chance to see them, a wide range of people would try them out. I think about Metallica, people really criticized the selection, but it was a really great show. I got to see an act that I would never have seen as a single concert event. I think that Roo provides the opportunity for people to check out different acts on the farm.
Waiting for more big acts that I never have seen, but I know I will be dancing on the farm to many of the acts already announced.
ps... don't know how much merit to put with what I heard, but a friend of mine that works with SPIN magazine texted me and said Superfly had Elton John last minute, but he turned it down because hes coming off tour with Billy Joel. Take it for what it's worth, but I can say this for a fact... from what I hear talking around my friends in the music magazine world, this is not how it was suppose to go down. I get the feeling/hearing that one or two bigger names were suppose to be on this lineup and dropped last mintue. Was told that original lineup was in fact suppose to come out Feb 2nd and tickets go on sale Feb 6th, but things broke down and it was a scramble. Mark at SPIN told me that as of a few weeks ago he had only heard DMB and Jay-Z being 100% on board. Im guessing Neil and/or Stone or Who dropped and it was mad dash to replace. Bottom line, Kings of Leon are not a top three headliner. Becoming more clear hour by hour that this was a fill in the gaps job where they just pushed things back and tried to hype it up as much as possible. I can only assume they out the tickets on sale the day the lineup was announced to get that intial impact purchase. Putting the bands out one by one might have just got them those few extra thousand people that might not have bought the tickets if they sat down and thought the lineup through. If you honestly look at it, no real major "Legend" headliner, lineup release date pushed back, and the myspace/twitter webpage was all screwed up until about 4 hours into the process. Not for nothing but just seems shotty. All I can tell you is this... I know from friends and formerly working in the music magazine world that the people that make the lineup and superfly read these boards. Make enough noise and I'm sure you'll get another big act, MAYBE! oh and the ROO CLUE: tom and jerry minus art... that was Paul Simon solo, but he pulled out as well. Rolling Stone even reported that! So you know stuff is messed up in those superfly offices right now
Going back and looking at last year, we didn't get any artist additions until March 25th. So we have a long way to go until they announce any new bands. We always get a handful of mid-level acts in the first addition. The last addition is usually cafe acts with a surprise or two.
I'm not sure if we'll get another BNA. I'd like to think that AC/Superfly has Neil Young or Roger Waters up their sleeve, but I've been around long enough to know this might be it in terms of headliners. I'm thinking the biggest act that might be added would be something like Furthur.
