I'd say Edward (ward) would be the obvious one which it is not. A less obvious but still not too obscure alternative might be Edwin. If it is "win" it still only gets us half way there so lets think "___win" or Win___". Taking the half way part in another way if could be a first or last name or part of a band name leaving us to come up with the other portion. Winn Butler?

Of course what ever it is we will still have to connect it back to the clue. Do any of the 1945 peoples fit with this latest tweet? Sorry I'm at work so can't follow up on all these suggestions myself at the moment.
In Wiki it is noted that a Mr. Ed sample was used for Beastie Boys' "Time to Get Ill." Dunno if that's relevant, but it's the only contemporary group mentioned on the page. I see that the word "time" is also in the clue.
They had 2 times. "Time to Get Ill" and "Time for Livin'."

"New brand of clue..." Maybe there'll be a new stage at 'Roo? The 3rd big stage? Will we have 3 brands/stages to choose from? X,Y and Z? What, Which and Where? Then there's the old adage, "Star of stage and screen."
I have logical path for William Shatner and his Has Been album produced by Ben Folds.
That would be a different brand - an actor doing music. Man I'd love to see Shatner and Folds together at Roo.

My initial thought about the Z was just that it was to differentiate the new dj's clues, like maybe hers would start with Z and work backwards through the letters or something. Which would be kind of odd anyway. But now I'm convinced there must be more to it than that, because we've seen SO many noteworthy Zs around lately.
Still wondering about the fact that DJ JD said it was a whole new brand of clue, too. Some of the guesses flying around would seem like good possibilities for a normal clue, but if this one is supposed to be significantly different then I don't know.
Also perplexed about how many different directions we're going in. We've got the clue itself, something about Mr. Ed or Edward or Edwin or whatever, something about other ways to spell star, something about generations and/or the Cold War, and possibly something about various years that you guys have been throwing around (I'll be honest, y'all completely lost me with that stuff!). That seems like more different threads than we're usually working with. If you look at the other clues, it's pretty clear how all the hints we get for them relate to the clue itself. But with this one...not so much.
Maybe it's a Biblical reference from the Book of Genesis: 1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2) Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep... 3) And God zed, "Let there be light," and there was light. And we were given screens on Which!

I like the Edwin Starr idea. When did he adopt Starr as his name? I saw on wiki that his first group started in 1957. So, using that date I took 2009-1957=52 years ago. So half of that is 26. Then I looked up bands that started in 1983: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Musical_groups_established_in_1983
Flaming Lips are on there, but also a lot of others.

Edwin Starr definitely ties into this clue....more than one way to spell star (starr), last name was Hatcher, sang the song War (person who guessed Cold War Kids was on to something), ...
There's something to this. The clue makes allusions to common sayings and commercials. "Don't count your chickens before they are hatched," "Chicken of the Sea," "StarKist" brand tuna, "Charlie the Tuna," Chali 2na?!

I'm thinking maybe George Clinton has something to do with this. Before Edwin Starr became famous for War, they were both on the same tiny label, which would be taken over by Motown. I'm trying to think of a way the various Clinton itinerations before and after the Motown period would lead to him as the answer. I just can't put it all together chronologically, because his wiki page SUCKS. Any hard-core Clinton fans that can help out with this?
Ok, new track... Before you were hatched you were just a twinkle in your father's eye, both of them actually. So, it's "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," written by Jane Taylor. Then there's "Mockingbird," sung by James Taylor and Carly Simon and based on the lullaby, "Hush Little Baby." Both being lullabies, they're sung to put babies to sleep. Zzz....
