RE: the 1945 thing. Pete Townsend was born in 1945. Zak Starkey (Ringo's son) and Simon Townsend, Pete's brother have played with the Who. Also, there was the above reference to Generations, which I thought was a pretty good deduction.
...and of course Starr is a "wronger" way to spell star.
If Mr. Ed is Ed Sullivan wouldn't a wronger spelling of star be Ringo Starr since the Beatles were his most famous booking? His hatchling would be his son. Not sure of the rest of the math... (I was told there would be no math in this clue solving thread.)
Also, could this tie in to clue 8? The quick answer was Paul Simon but what if the clue was meant to indicate Harper Simon. If you tie Harper in with Ringo you get Ben Harper with Ringo Starr?

It seems like it should be easy but obviously it is not....
My guess on this is maybe since it is clue Z it will be who is closing out Bonnaroo?
"Clue Z! A whole new brand of clue- good luck, help forthcoming after I have a nice drink off this beer;" Djjd indicating he's drinking the head off his beer?
Zunday's headliner?

"New brand of clue..." Maybe there'll be a new stage at 'Roo? The 3rd big stage? Will we have 3 brands/stages to choose from? X,Y and Z? What, Which and Where? Then there's the old adage, "Star of stage and screen."

He said it is a totally different kind of clue. So, I am thinking it is a hip-hop clue. Before the star was hatched= Blackstar. What is two times before I was= Mos Def and Talib Kwali.
Even though this is probably wrong because he said the cold war kids guess was close

ed is short for what edward - ward = mward.but he said its not this simple. so its something related to m ward? ward is half of she and him? still seems to obvious.
black star sounds like a good guess but is that too obvious. i think they will be there
I wish we knew something about the person that gave the clue. What if the person speaking was at one time a smaller act, and we are looking for an act that twice performed as an "opener", but this year is now a headliner.
How many times has Wolfmother played the Roo? Just the once or twice? They certainly hatched something this year, as a poster mentioned earlier.
We still have to tie Edward to the original clue, too. Paul Simon links to Edward how? (Also Edward is long for Ed but it's also long for Ted if that helps any.)
Edit: Sorry, wrong original clue! Ignore the Paul Simon part. Ted may still tie in, though...
DJJD said we hit on something with the generation thing. Twice before Z is X. Generation X? They were fronted by Billy Idol. Before he became a "star". Don't know how Hatched fits in specifically.
ZE is a PvP arena video game under development according to wiki. Players use their avatars to battle each other. Maybe Avatar will be showing in the cinema tent? It's been billed as the next generation in 3D. Z-Ed = Last generation-3d?
