Bonnaroo.com stated Phish and Springsteen were you headliners last year. End of story.
If NIN and Beasties were reported as "headlining" the festival by various news sources that is only because they felt those names would be more relevant to the mainstream audience then Phish.

exactly. i guarantee it will be this way for kings of leon. someone like rolling stone will report kings of leon as a headliner, when in fact they'll probably end up getting a spot like beasties, byrne or NIN
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
beastie boys themselves said they were headlining. it was the top 3, like always.
That's weird, because I remember posting the exact wording from the BB's website last year several times where they specifically said they were headlining two festivals (don't remember what they were, but not Roo) and then they said they were "playing" at Roo -- no mention of the word headline.
What about Bowie? I can't find much on him as of late, anyone else got anything?
While I would love to see Bowie, I think Coachella would get him before Bonnaroo.
Has he played Coachella before? We got Radiohead in 06, and Coachella didn't! I would've thought that they'd get Radiohead before Roo, but it was the happiest time of my life! Anyway ~ Bowie would be so fab!

That's why I was wondering if they had Bowie already at some point? Then we could have a chance. I'm trying to think out of the box....box of the ten-year clue band anyway.
i like being called 25 (or two five). i always thought the easiest real word to decipher out of my user name was aki. but 25 will work.
this board is so much more cheerful now with people making optimistic predictions. some people are going to claim that we aren't making any progress in knowing the headliners by doing this, but bottom line is that until something is leaked, we know nothing anyway. maybe when the CoS interview comes out and clues start popping up our predictions will be more accurate.
two five out!
2 to the 5:
You've put up some very thoughtful postings recently, and have even talked a few of us in from the "brutal headliners paranoia" ledge. For that, we know you now by the name of your preference. May karma alight fittingly upon your avatar...
K I am wrong...but they were the only something at Roo...maybe it was festival that year in the US? Either way my only thing was to say if Roo can get Radiohead then they can get Bowie....Whew!

I'd say Weezer is very doubtful. Rivers Cuomo's bus crashed in upstate new york in early December traveling between arenas. He was injured but not too seriously. They canceled the rest of their winter tour after the crash. They haven't made any announcements about when they will return to the road. So it is possible but very doubtful.
a lot has been said about the present popularity of KoL which elevated the band to supposed headliner status. this status is explained by the album sales this year, increased tour sales, and radio stations constantly playing their couple of hit singles. three other artists have received similar sudden popularity in the past year. one is susan boyle, which for the sake of this argument is not important. if she actually came to bonnaroo she'd be a novelty tent act. the other two are lady gaga and taylor swift.
what is interesting to note is that these artists are hardly considered for headliners in any threads other than the occasional gaga page. in many ways, lady gaga was larger than KoL this year: more album sales, more singles, and much more publicity. is it because her repertoire consists of only two full albums or is it because a solo female artist cannot compete for headliner spots amongst full male bands? most speculation would put gaga in a tent late night, or a what/which preheadliner, but not as a headliner.
and then there is taylor swift, who outsold both KoL and LG this year, while also having quite the controversy herself. a kanye-hating roo fest might empathize with her for the kanye diss, but she too would be an early day what or which act.
so did AC/Superfly decide KoL was good enough to top the bill? if so, i guess it would be because of the same reason they originally had jack johnson as a headliner in 2008. but he didnt stay there for long...

i think the reason is kol has played bonnaroo before and are local favs. i think that's the main reason they are getting this oppurunity. if you think about it, kanye was really the only "pop" artist they ever booked.
