And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

White Stripes can if the first two headiners are godly. KOL would probably be 4th on a Roo line up at this point.
Speaking of other newer bands Arcade Fire, Muse, The Killers, MMJ and Daft Punk would all probably be 4th or 5th on a Roo linup IMO.
kol were 6th at lollapalooza & they were probably only billed above lou reed because he wasn't closing a day out (see: yeah yeah yeahs billed above him once they got added to the bill). i don't think they would be that high on a bonnaroo lineup.
arcade fire isn't that high at a festival that isn't coachella. i would hope to god that muse wasn't that high -- they were #4 at lollapalooza 2007 and that was back before lollapalooza had solid headliners (see: ben harper #3). i don't think they've gotten significantly bigger recently.
funnily enough, white stripes, killers, arcade fire, muse and mmj were all on the ACL 07 lineup. they were 3 - 4 - 6 - 7 - 8, respectively. i think only MMJ would be higher than that on a bonnaroo lineup, although muse could probably bump up to six (they were two slots behind wilco at acl 07, who was 6th on the lineup this year)
Well Im gonna throw in my 2 cents. haha. Out of all the names being mentioned, for the most part, I would prefer to have The Rolling Stones, RHCP, RATM, and REM.
Apparently I only like bands that start with the letter "R"

lolla is different from roo (or at least this was true in 07). the headliners do not play unopposed. so i saw muse on the bigger stage, but some other band was playing on the other side of the park. same was true for pearl jam and daft punk. god, whoever didnt see daft punk that night... wow.
Love em or hate em, U2 is touring the western United States the weekend of Roo and has open dates Friday and Sunday. Not likely, but not out of the question.
I've never seen Muse live, and while I enjoy their earlier records, I just cannot get into The Resistance. I really think this year is going to be their stateside push year, ala KOL this past year. That said, I think they are a distinct possibility for a top 6-8 billing at Roo. Probably late nite Which Stage. I just don't enjoy the new record, but I would probably check them out.
If we were lucky enough to get Daft Punk, does everyone pretty much agree that late nite What Stage is the only place for them? [after Jay Z Friday night ]

Yes, They will be late night. I don't think they can play the headliner role at Roo. Despite the Daft Punk support on this board, they don't have the mass appeal of recent Roo headliners. It is almost a lock that DP at Roo would be 4th on the bill and LN What.

I don't really understand how daft punk doesn't have mass appeal. I mean most of the people I know and from association know and enjoy Daft Punk. And these people listen to all different types of music, but Daft Punk is definitely a common interest among all of them.
And a lot of the people who don't listen to any sort of electronica or techno, still listen to em.

yeah i feel like daft punk is the one electronica act you could put on, and no matter who is in the room they will like it. obviously some exceptions as (shockingly) there are people who dont like daft punk, but i think in general have a very wide appeal, and can grab the attention of those who arent into the electronic scene
They COULD headline if only because once people hear those sweet sounds start on the mainstage they will come running from all stages and areas, even waking up at camp and sprinting towards centeroo. There would be 80k there by the end

I'm with you guys, techno is not my thing. I'll listen to a little moby or basement jaxx now and again. Im down with animal collective. BUT Daft Punk is a different breed. It's primal yet advanced, trippy yet insistent. And i havent seen them live but based on videos and other people's reactions to their stage show I say there isn't a better show for Bonnaroo than Daft Punk.

I'm no techno guy, but I think I would enjoy a DP show. Especially if I was in the right frame of mind(nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
mojo, imagine if you will, 70K people dancing in front of the what stage.
and i dont mean head nodding and swaying, i mean, jumping up and down, outright boogieing to the beats. primal dancing around the campfire that is a daft punk show.
it's amazing.
and that's what it was like at lolla - with all those hipsters - imagine a roo crowd. omg...
