We've been talking a lot about the older acts that might play, but who do you think the new(er) headliner(s) will be? These are usually more exciting to me anyway.
What is the cut off to be considered new? I don't really know if there's anybody "new" headliner worthy? I think you need to be established to headline Roo.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Well yea, you're not going to see a buzz band headline anytime soon. What I'm saying is an artist that didn't peak in the late 60's early 70's. There's nothing wrong with these bands, it just seems like we're not really talking about artists from either this decade, or the couple before it.

I know Further has been discussed a lot in here but John Kadlecik (aka fake Jerry) has officially left DSO. So it seems Further has big plans for next year and I think if Phil allows it they will be on the farm.
I feel like they're big enough but wouldn't want them there. That's just personal taste though.
I don't think Green Day has the kind of draw Roo is looking for. I can't imagine a bunch of Green Day fans going to TN and sleeping in a field with a bunch of dirty hippies.

that's the same argument used against radiohead, the police, springsteen, metallica, kanye, etc etc...
green day puts on a good show, besides, their fans are mostly tweens. it would become milfaroo

Maybe ten years ago but not anymore. I'd really like to see Green Day personally but I understand completely why people wouldn't want them at Roo.

Ok, I think I can make a pretty accurate list of bands that could possibly be the headliner. Allmans, Widespread Panic, The Dead, Radiohead, Jay Z, Paul Mcartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Daft Punk, Dave Matthews Band, Outkast, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, gilmour, REM, Cure, RATM, RHCP, Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, U2, Van Morrison, The Who, Tool
Now I'm not lobbying for or against any of these bands, I just feel like these are the only bands that have a logical shot at headlining.
You could throw some other names out there: Kings Of Leon, Tom Petty, Springsteen, Phish, Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Metallica, But I think these bands just wont happen.

OT but just wondering if maybe Leonard Cohen might be pre-headliner material. He's amazing and he's touring into March next year, so he doesn't have any obligations next June. I don't think I've seen him mentioned that's why I bring it up.
^^I think so, for sure. He could probably hold down a pre-headliner spot on the What Stage, but I think closing out the Which Stage is much more likely.
i just can't seem to think of anyone who's not been performing for at least 20 years as being big enough. That seems crazy.
the only artist i can think of is Jay Z.
The only other one I can think of besides Jay-Z is Dave Matthews Band, but even they're not far off the twenty year mark by now. And even though Radiohead only broke into the mainstream in 1993, they've been together since the mid 80's. It's just that a band really needs to be superstars to headline a festival of 80,000 people, and most bands don't reach that point until they have a couple decades of performing under their belt.

I'm sorry but is Arcade Fire really headliner material? Sure they've put out a great album and a good album, but do they have enough mass appeal or material to headline?

I am a MASSIVE Arcade Fire fan but they couldn't headline. I think if they played they would either close the Which on sunday, preheadline the What or latenight which.
After seeing Alberta Cross at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill, I got to spend some time with lead singer Petter Ericson Stakee. We got to talking and he saw my 'Roo bracelets. He told me that Bonnaroo was his favorite festival by far, over Coachella, Lolla and Glasto. He also told me that Alberta Cross would be back to the farm in 2010. Wussup! Awesome news for Alberta Cross fans!
Is this our first somewhat substantial rumor for 2010?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for Green Day, I'm just trying to come up with serious star power bands that haven't played on the farm before to headline. There are some great names on the list coanbread made but lots of them have played before
Of those I'm with you on Dylan, McCartney, Bowie, The Who, Stones, REM, Gilmour, Peter Gabriel, CURE, RHCP, OutKast, Paul Simon
I can't see Tom Waits as a headliner simply because his music seems more intimate to me. Same goes for Van Morrison, I'd go but I don't know if he's an 75,000 person crowd show. Maybe the earlier slot.
Don't care one way or the other - Jay Z, Daft Punk, RATM
I can't see U2 simply because I don't think Superfly could afford them and pay anyone else.
