People who have heard Daltry recently say he's in good voice. I based my criticism on what I heard from that VH1 special a few years ago.
Roger Daltry with a strong voice would definitely have me excited about The Who. I would definitely miss The Ox and I've never been too happy with Zack Starkeys playing. Starkey's good, but way to straight a player to take on Kieth Moon's spot.
Oh yeah, whoever said Pete doesn't phone it in is correct.
Would be happy with The Who. Still would love to see:
The Dead or Further Foo Fighters or Red Hot Chili Peppers
Is it weird that I would much rather see Furthur than the Dead? I saw the Dead twice on this last tour, and the first night was awful, the second night amazing, so I'd rather get Furthur who seems to be gelling really well than the Dead (even though I love Warren). Plus, if we get Furthur, we'll probably get Benevento/Russo Duo too, and maybe even DSO, not to mention the fact that the Furthur shows in Oakland sounded amazing.

plus the Stones are a joke live
Just curious have you seen the Stones live personally or just the super bowl which was lackluster. I only ask because i have seen them twice once outdoors and once in arena and both shows were incredible. I guess im curious why everyone on inforoo trys to act like they are bad show. Ive seen paul Mccartney, Billy Joel/Elton John, Bruce, Phish, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Bob Dylan, the Moody Blues(an act that Bonnaroo should try to book "Nights in white satin" on the farm would be incredible), and the Stones are comparable if not better than all of those shows (Well not better than McCartney, PJ, or Metallica). Only dylan was a bad show(His voice sounds like a death rattle nowadays). I guess my point/question is are all of the people that dog the Stones live shows are people that saw them live and were not impressed, or people that didnt like the SB ht show, or people that hate any superhuge band. Just asking because having seen them and their energy onstage i dont know how a music lover could not enjoy their show. Just asking. Slaughter me i dont care really just curious how a people can act like getting the Rolling Stones (one of the top rock bands in history like the Beatles, the who, Zep, hendrix, etc.) is a dissapointment. Again just asking. Some of the greatest music ever created plus a good live show how is that a dissapointment?
Aslo anyone that is Anti Who and pro U2 should be seriously heckled and threatened with physical harm but not actually endure physical harm because that is not cool.

On a nostalgia level, I'd rather see U2 than the Who. I grew up with U2's early 80's stuff, and still have the Joshua Tree in my car. The Who would be alright, but U2 would be more exciting for me.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
The Who - I would definitely see them / be happy if they were to headline. Yeah, okay, they're well past their prime, but I love their music way too much to care.
U2 - I really have zero interest in seeing U2. I like a couple of their songs, but they get really boring really fast. They all just sound the same to me.
The Rolling Stones - I know they're dinosaurs, but I like way too much of their music to discredit them as a potential headliner. If they put together a setlist of 25 or 30 songs, I guarantee I'm going to love at least half of them. Plus I feel like I kind of owe it to my dad in some weird way - when he was at boarding school in England in the 1960s, he snuck out of his dorm one night after curfew, got on the train to London and went to go see the Stones - but he had to leave fairly early in the performance because he saw one of his teachers in the audience and didn't want to get caught, because he would have surely gotten caned. He now says it's one of his big regrets.
Paul McCartney - I saw him twice in August and both shows were just fantastic. Even though I've seen him twice now, I still would like to see him as a Roo headliner. The man has still very much got it in him to put on a phenomenal concert - each time was a solid two and a half hours of Beatles, Wings, solo material, and audience banter. And even though it was just icing on the cake, his light show and fireworks were top notch.
The Dead / Furthur - I've only started to get into the Dead this past year, after years of trying to get into them time and time again. I say bring 'em on.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I was a big RHCP fan growing up, they were one of the first bands I ever got into. I would like to see them, but I have my doubts about the quality of their live show.
Foo Fighters - I like some of their songs, and I'm sure they'd put on a good show, but there are lots of acts I'd rather see headline instead. If they were to be a pre-headliner or late-night, well that's a different story.
Eric Clapton - dear God yes. Clapton would be one of the most epic headliners ever to grace the farm. Please make it happen Superfly.
Neil Young - I would like to see Neil Young play - I don't know as much of his material as I probably should, but what I do know, I like. Plus the man is a living legend.
Jay-Z - I would love to see Jay-Z perform. I think 2009 was a way to kind of test the waters with Roo's first hip-hop headliner. He would put on a great show, I have no doubts about that.
David Bowie - see my answer for Clapton.
Van Halen - honestly, I've never gotten into Van Halen. I don't even like Van Halen from their prime, so I really don't want to see them 20 years past their prime. And I highly doubt that they would headline at this point.

I love the continuous on going debate over the few bands we all speculate could, should, will, be there! I have to go over the last few posts and re-speculate on my original thoughts on this thread.
1. "The Stones are a joke live". I said this because I have seen them live twice (both shows separated by a number of years) and both times they were at best lack lustre. I agree that they are legends, have a lot of great tunes, but they have just been unimpressive for me live. This is not unlike RHCP who I hope are also not there. For the same reasons as the Stones you could argue why they should be there as headliners, but again I have seen RHCP 3 times and all three they were weak live, blown away by their support acts, and in one case down right terrible. All this being said, I would pass on both of them if they were there and go see something else.
2. Jack324's last post: I also think that Clapton would be amazing and would probably garner some cool artists to join him on stage. I also second Bowie who I have seen twice (two very different shows) and who puts on an absolutely stellar show; Great career spanning tunes, great voice still, phenomenal backing band. These two should be the priority alongside Neil, Maaca, and Waters in my opinion. All the rest to me would be to varying degrees fine with me but not exciting (Jay Z, Further/Dead/ REM/ The Who) or terrible adds (Stones/RHCP/ VH/ U2/Foos) based on having seen them before and being let down.
3. Ultimately, I would love to see a solid mid tier of acts, great late nights (Daft Punk and Arcade Fire as priority), and one decent headliner.
I just heard on the radio tha Roger Daltry had to cancel some of his solo dates because his voice was shot. That can't be good news for The Who. I think they have been gearing up for a big 2010.
The Rolling Stones are another one of my all time favorites and I've seen them many times, although not in the last decade. I would love it. They play the "big show" really well. If you equate a headliner spot with a stadium show. There are not many that do it better than the Stones.
RHCP - I've always liked them but never seen them. I'd like the chance. Same can is true for RATM and The Foo Fighters.
Neil Young is perpetual greatness and needs to come back to Roo.

Roger Daltrey lost his voice towards the end of Tuesday night's (November 3rd) show at Cleveland's House of Blues. Although Daltrey has had slight problems throughout the tour -- and has juggled some of the song's placings in the setlist for when he's properly warmed up for each tune -- the Cleveland gig saw him at his rawest.
Cleveland.com reported that Daltrey apologized to the crowd towards the end of his set, saying, "I sound terrible. I had a very bad night's sleep last night. This is what I woke up with." Daltrey struggled through his customary Johnny Cash medley and the Who's "Blue, Red & Grey" before abandoning both songs entirely. He mustered his strength for a rousing closing cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Born On The Bayou."
Daltrey says that he's learned to properly pace himself within his live performances: "We can only play for two hours. You know it gets to be, for me personally and my voice, two hours is enough singing the way I sing. It's not an easy number these songs. They're very, very challenging. They demand the kind of energy that the voice needs to give it."
I guess the argument could be made that a Who show would be less stressful on the old man's voice than his solo shows, because Townsend handles some of the vocals. If they did Quadrophenia or Tommy there would be more singers and less work for Daltrey.
On a nostalgia level, I'd rather see U2 than the Who. I grew up with U2's early 80's stuff, and still have the Joshua Tree in my car. The Who would be alright, but U2 would be more exciting for me.
I'm with you 100%.
If any of the following do it (of artists most mentioned), I'll be ecstatic; Radiohead, David Bowie, Neil Young, U2, Jay Z, Macca.
Also, funny how AC/DC was being rumored up the wazoo last year, and there's been no talk of it this year. Same with Zeppelin in 08, but that's a bit more understandable (hugely successful colab between Plant and Krauss, JPJ's new thing with Grohl and Homme).

The Dead,Further or any Greatful dead is NOT going to happen. Phil Lesh stated that after what happened w/Kanye (Bonnaroo yanked Phil off stage halfway through his set for Kanye) and all of the years they have came to Roo and than to ruin his set for Kanye one time West was buh league, and vowed they would never have anything to do with them again. And Im gonna buy this from him, because last year was the 1st year there was no Dead members @ roo, nor was there Dark Star Orchestra. Also, the Dead took there act to Bonnaroo's competition (Rothbury). So further,The Dead, whoever will NOT be there in 2010..another think Kanye Ruined.....But, Jay-Z is a lock (my buddy is his trainer and says thats whats in the works for Jay). Other than that if RHCP drop an new album or are even working on one they would play (think Pearl Jam 2008,they had no album coming out,no world tour, they just showed up and played bonnaroo, not to support an album that came out a year and a half later), so RHCP would make an AMAZING Friday night headliner...The Who on Saturday would be pretty damn good (saw them twice in 08 and they can still rock!!) The Allmans OWE Bonnaroo for there last minute exit..but what made me sctrach my head was they played a shit load of shows last year but no Roo? People keep saying Radiohead,Tool..but didnt they just play Bonnaroo already in the last 3 years? My Morning Jacket took the year off and could make an appearance, Foo Fighters could be an add as well..U2? I dont know..could be great...they should announce the 3 headliners XMAS day!!!

I've heard several different people state that Phil Lesh said this, but they can never show the source where this alleged quote came from. I'm guessing that this is just a rumor that snowballed. I think it's bologna. Prove otherwise.

Simon Townsend was on tour with Roger, he looks and sounds just like his dad.
Simon is Pete's brother.
Beat me to it. Simon was on the Who tour about 9 years ago when they did Quadrophenia. He's pretty talented in his own right. He plays and sings very much like Pete.
If Roger really can't answer the call anymore. I would be happy with Townsend performing either Quadrophenia or Tommy, perhaps with a few special friends(coughclaptoncoughcoughelton).
After seeing Alberta Cross at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill, I got to spend some time with lead singer Petter Ericson Stakee. We got to talking and he saw my 'Roo bracelets. He told me that Bonnaroo was his favorite festival by far, over Coachella, Lolla and Glasto. He also told me that Alberta Cross would be back to the farm in 2010. Wussup! Awesome news for Alberta Cross fans!

stones live = better than most seem to think. saw them at foxboro stadium and it was hot. they still have it, despite all logic saying they shouldnt...
Who live = okay, i guess. i really dont like the music aside from tommy. saw them at live8 and wasnt impressed. granted, pink floyd was coming on next and i really didnt give two shits about the who in comparison.
u2 live = amazing. sorry, they just are. u2 cd's - eh....

We've been talking a lot about the older acts that might play, but who do you think the new(er) headliner(s) will be? These are usually more exciting to me anyway.

I'm not even really an REM fan, but I saw them in Atlanta the week after Bonnaroo '08 as special closing act for Modest Mouse...it was a really really good show.
