For the 2007 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, we are considering going "cashless." Pre-loaded swipe cards would be offered in various price levels ranging from $10 to $500 to purchase concessions, merchandise, etc. If you did not use all of the money on your card, you could redeem it at the end of the festival and any remaining money on the card would be refunded.
We would appreciate it if you would take a moment to fill out our swipe card survey at the following link.
yea i just got the email too....hmmm i think it doesnt make too much sense...i mean people are going to bring cash for other things anyways, but i guess you wont have to bring that much now...also no more change needing to be made= faster lines at all the stores
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but in the back of my mind I can just think of so many things that could go wrong. Like the card reader could go down, or the card could get lost (I lose credit cards more often than I lose wads of cash), and of course the issue of stealing. And I know a lot of these issues also arise with cash, but I just see it as a kind of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation. They could also just start giving everything away for free and call it "communism in action"; everybody shares their t-shirts, but that could lead to the possible spread of things like the bubonic plague, so scratch that.

I agree with all this.
I'd probably buy one for a smaller amount, just to give it a shot. It really would reduce lines and allow for more purchasing power for those who don't want to deal with carrying around a ton of cash. Really though, unless they set up some sort of travelers check like network of security on these -- I'll pass.
They should just make sure the ATMs are kept full, i am sure getting a refund on any extra cash left on the card would be a pain. I am more likely to buy something if I have a wad of cash in my pocket than trying to figure out how much I have on a card.
i don't like this idea. will every single vendor have a swipe machine? will the funnel cake guy? will the glass people? the fried cheese lady? how bout vending machines? what if the system crashes, you have no cash and all you brought to roo was gorp? i'm sure if you are real hungry someone will help you out but i am making a point. if you have 80,000 people depending on this and the system crashes, thats a major FUBAR. i went to woodstock '94 and they made you trade in your cash for "woodstock money". it was a major pain in the azz and if you ran out, you couldn't buy ANYTHING with green. no water, no munchies, no fried cheese, no funnel cakes. NO FUNNEL CAKES MAN!! i don't want to be put in that same situation ever again. and i sure don't want 80,000 + to be either.

If they do it, I'll probably get one for like $25 or something, just to see how it works, and keep cash too. As above, there's too much that could go wrong for me to put all my money on there. Plus I'd like to have money to buy stuff outside of Centeroo (whether Shakedown or whatever).
Took the surevy and gave them my mark of dissapproval. I think it could lead to a lot more hassles and just gives me one more thing to worry about that I shouldnt. If I'm reaching for my wallet it will be going for cash. I can track my cash better then I can a card and also it is just a matter of preference. I say X the swipe card idea (butif they did have it I would give it a try just to get a t-shirt or two)

I would use them, but I would only put small amounts on them at one time. Having a $200 card stolen would piss me off. The card would be convenient for me because I never ever ever make correct change. So at the end of the festival I have a billion $1 bills.
such a bad idea. at memphis in may a few years back, they did the "no-cash" thing. It was pure bs. You had to stand in line for 30 minutes to get these "tickets" that were worth $1, then you had to stand in line to get beer or food. So instead of standing in 1 line, you had to stand in 2. I spent most of that year on line.
I don't mind the idea of allowing people to use a card, but as an alternative to cash, not as a mandatory "no-cash" rule.
The whole thing would go against the spirit of the festival imo.

I dont think the intent was to ever "replace cash" at 'roo....I think they just want to make some things easier to purchase. I would probably still just have cash until the whole thing is proven to be a good idea.
