I'm hopefully pulling into the driveway of my new place in TX sometime tomorrow. Then I go right back on the road until late Sept at which time Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Black Crows, Serj Tankian and Michael Franti and Spearhead are all playing within 5 days of each other. What a way to christen my new neighborhood.
i've spent close to 300$ in the past two weeks on concert tickets.
we have staff development on monday and then the kids come back a week after that. it is nice knowing that i have so many great shows coming up in the fall to help keep me sane!
Well I had a blast taking the kinder to Phish DC 2. My daughter got her Ocelot, and my Son got his Fluffhead. A good time was had by all, the crowd was great last night. They also got a great Vacuum solo during IDK.

i went to Phish at Alpine Valley this past weekend and noticed a new batch of glowstick fun for this year. it's a two colored glowstick- one half is one color and the other is another. i'd seen tri-colored necklaces before, but these were regular sized glowsticks with two different colors and i thought that quite amazing. perhaps it was the effect of the "fun" i had partaken in previously, but these really were cool.
if you look i'm sure you'd see that nothing's really as it seems and soon enough you'd realize you promise more than you'll provide the substance that we're hoping for will always leave us needing more we're calloused til we cannot feel the only moments that were real

My 10year old daughter got one at DC 2, she thought it was the coolest thing she had ever seen as well.

^^ Hey Jen, I just won 2 free tix to see Grace Potter at a secret show tomorrow night, can you make it here by 7:00 PM? I need a date! They are taping the show for PBS Live From the Artist's Den ;D
I think that after all these years, Van Morrison may have finally trumped NIN as my favorite ever music act. I like Van's music more and more every year.
Person 1: You're getting too skinny, I'm gonna have to shove a donut in your mouth . Person 2: But it'll come right out of my butt! Person 1: Like a donut Nerf gun.
KINGS OF LEON frontman CALEB FOLLOWILL regrets his scathing comments about the band's massive hit SEX ON FIRE - insisting he's "ashamed" of the incident.
The rocker stunned fans in a recent interview when he described the group's breakthrough song as a "piece of s**t" and slammed their new batch of supporters as "not f**king cool".
But he now rues his remarks, and admits he was "scared" with the level of fame Sex on Fire had brought the band.
Followill tells British rock magazine NME, "For a while there, I turned into someone I wasn't proud of. I wasn't appreciative of the admiration we were getting, and I said some things that I'm ashamed of. I hurt people who were genuine fans of the band because I was embarrassed to look out from the stage every night and see people who weren't like me."

Alright, let's let KOL kill their own career... I'm down with that.
Also, this has been on my mind for years but I'm gonna say it: I' longing for the return of late night cable TV movie blocks dedicated to B-movies... like USA Up All Night, TNT Monster Vision, Turner South had one on Fridays, Joe Bob Briggs' old TMC show. I know that recently TCM had an Underground block late Fridays, but why did these things go the way of the dodo? I'm sure there's an audience to find out there...
Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová of the Swell Season and their crew have issued a statement following a bizarre incident in which a man died at their show last night (Aug. 19) at Saratoga Mountain Winery, California.
The audience watched in horror when the man deliberately threw himself from the roof of a building near the lighting rig, according to local reports. Many in the audience were shaken and in tears.
"The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night," said the band's statement issued to Hot Press. "Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family."
The San Jose Mercury News reports that Hansard had just finished a song and was indulging in some banter with the crowd and guitar player when the man jumped.
"I saw him standing there on the edge of the roof, I thought it was a part of the act, and then he took off running and jumped, did a couple of flips and landed on the stage," audience member Kyle Rivers told the paper. "It was pretty traumatic."
Hansard put down his guitar and walked over to the man on the stage, while doctors in attendance attempted to revive him. Sheriff's authorities and paramedics attended the scene.
Santa Clara County officials confirmed to the paper that an incident occurred at the venue but did not disclose details. However, various witnesses have posted details on Twitter.
"Swell Season at Mountain Winery was amazing until someone decided it was time 2 end their life & made an entire audience unwilling witnesses," wrote one audience member.
That apology from Caleb actually seems really genuine and sincere, not that I a) had any idea he said that stuff about "Sex on Fire" or b)cared that he said that stuff about "Sex on Fire." At least he can admit when he's wrong, though; many people can't. I don't know...if all that stuff leads to them getting back to the bare-bones rock of their first two LPs, I might get back on board with KoL. Their first two records are fantastic.
^God, that's really awful.
Now, here's my random thought: My buddy, Nick, and I went to a show last night at a 300 cap. club in Chapel Hill called Local 506 to see Miniature Tigers. It was the first week that UNC students were back in school, so there were a lot of obnoxious bros there that were providing us with lots of lulz. It was one of those groups that just kept yelling out dumb, random stuff like "F*ck the police!!!" and stuff like that. We notice a group of this type of people at a lot of the shows we go to. So, anyway, Nick's idea was that he's going to start recording all the dumb, silly bro sh*t that we always overhear at shows and start a blog called brosatshows.com. That sounded like a good idea to me at the time, and mulling it over this morning, I still think it does. That's all.
I love the Local 506... saw Johnathan Richman there a couple of years ago. Great, intimate venue with EXCELLENT tap beer. I may go back in November to see one of my favs, Legendary Pink Dots.
